South: From St. Laurent the boundary cuts across to the railway tracks. West: North of La Cite Collégiale, the western boundary is Blair Road. South of La Cite it is St. Laurent Boulevard. East: From north to south, the Eastern boundary is Green’s Creek, Highway 174, Blair Road and Innes Road. CANDIDATE-SUBMITTED BIOGRAPHIES MICHEL BELLEMARE (INCUMBENT) Michel Bellemare has dedicated himself to serving the community. He was re-elected to Ottawa City Council in 2006 by a wide margin. The veteran Councillor won praise as an effective Acting Mayor last year, leading Ottawa City Council to approve an impressive number of policies and projects in a short period. Among these, a downtown transit tunnel for east-west light rail, a plan Bellemare has been pushing for years and ultimately became a successful alternative to the previous and controversial north-south proposal. Two light rail stations will connect Beacon Hill-Cyrville to downtown. As Acting Mayor, Bellemare made sure a $3 million expansion of the Splash Wave Pool in Beacon Hill-Cyrville was funded by all levels of government. Bellemare also initiated new recreation activities for youths and seniors, and successfully completed a $2.5 million makeover of neighbourhood parks, with more improvements on the way. Michel Bellemare is a lawyer with deep roots in the community. He is the fifth generation of his family living in the nation’s capital. He graduated from the University of Ottawa in law, political science, and management and public policy. He and his wife, Nathalie, have three young children and live in Beacon Hill. O’NEIL BROOKE O’Neil Brooke candidate for Ottawa City Council, ward 11 has been working in information technology since the early 1990’s. While acquiring a real estate license, Mr. Brooke found that our politicians do not "represent" people, instead politicians use the concept of "governance" to override dissent and impose their will. O'Neil Brooke has served on parent council’s for Bayshore Catholic, Assumption and John Paul II schools. During this time Mr. Brooke also attended many of the meetings for parents held at the Ottawa Carleton Catholic School Board. O’Neil Brooke was president of the Ottawa-Vanier Electoral District Association for the Canadian Action Party and has been an active member of our community advocating for the preservation of our national sovereignty and individual rights. TIM TIERNEY As a long-time resident of Beacon Hill, Tim Tierney has been active in ensuring his community continues to grow and thrive as an integral part of Ottawa. This dedicated commitment to Beacon Hill-Cyrville has included many years of volunteering for a variety of local development projects, sports and recreation groups, schools, social service and community betterment organizations. This accumulated experience has given Tim an acute awareness of issues that affect community residents and prepared him to work collaboratively to resolve them. As a small business owner specializing in web development and online business solutions and as a Manager in the government sector Tim has the expertise and skill to understand the economic and social impacts of municipal policies and initiatives. An important tenet of his business philosophy is to engage stakeholders in the planning process build consensus and implement solutions that benefit the community. Tim was born in 1974, the son of Allan Tierney and Shirley Lavergne. Raised in Ottawa, he has been a resident of Beacon Hill for more than fifteen years. Along with his wife Jen, daughters Crystal and Keely, and son Liam, he enthusiastically participates in, and is a staunch advocate of neighbourhood recreational programs.
