At the Interpack 2011 conference, Dittmann Feinkost admitted the BlueSeal cap solution
is ��much more expensive than the old PVC caps, but we are glad to make our contribution
to sustainable protection of the environment and consumers, despite the premium price��.
Actega DS pointed out that the price premium for a product on supermarket shelves is
��reflected in mere fractions of euro cents��.
The company adds that the environmentally friendly BlueSeal cap secures an important
competitive advantage that gives the trade and consumers an important argument to buy
Dittmann Feinkost products.
Dittmann Feinkost says it will have used more than 30 million BlueSeal caps by the end of
2011 and describes this achievement as ��only the beginning��.
Pano Verschluss says that the European market for metal lug caps for fatty foodstuffs
amounts to 20bn caps/year, including 1bn each for oil-containing foods and meat &
sausages, another 1.5bn for mayonnaise and oil-based dressings.
Under the slogan ��we cap it all��, the company makes 500m caps/year and its
competitors are Vogel & Noot (Netcap) in Germany, aside from ��globally-active��
producers Silgan White Cap and Crown Cork & Seal. For its part, Actega DS says it has TPE
capacity to supply 150 bn closures/year.
