This guide provides step-by-step instructions for accessing, viewing and using RIOT: Information Literacy and
Writing. If you have any questions, email caroline.sinkinson@colorado.edu. Please let me know if you would like to

I.
ACCESS THE TUTORIAL
a. Go to URL: https://learn.colorado.edu/
b. Login with your identikey username and password
c. Selec t course titled RIOT Writing and Information Literacy. You will
find it under Community Spaces.
II.
NAVIGATION
a. From the homepage:
i. To start the tutorial in sequence, choose the Begin RIOT button.
ii. To navigate to a specific page, use the right-hand side content pane.
b. From tutorial content:
i. Use the upper right-hand side arrows to move through the tutorial content.
III.
TUTORIAL CONTENT
The tutorial includes 5 required modules. Each module concludes with a mandatory quiz. Students
also have the option to complete a reflection questionnaire for their own research projects. Module 6
offers tips and tools that students may use while completing their own research topics.
IV.
VIEW STUDENT GRADES
Students will complete 5 quizzes in RIOT. Scores will be assigned and recorded as students complete
each quiz. You may log-in to view student scores and status. You may also export grades to a csv file.
a. View student quiz scores:
i.
From the course home page, choose the Grades tool from the top menu bar. This
will open the grades list page.
ii.
From the top menu bar, choose Enter Grades.
iii.
You may then view student scores and totals.
1. If you teach multiple sections, select a specific section from the View By
drop-down menu and select Apply.
You may manually record quiz scores from this screen or export scores to a CSV file.
b. Export student quiz scores:
i. From the Enter Grades page, choose the export grades button.
ii.
iii.
iv.

Choose the section(s) you wish to export and select Apply.
Choose export details such as students’ last name, first name, and email.
Choose the quizzes you wish to export (Do not export current grade).
Select the Export to CSV button.
A pop-up window will open with a link to download the file. You may open or save the file. Note: students
may score 35 points total.
V.
EMAIL CLASS
You may email students directly from the RIOT class list.
1. Go to Classlist page.
2. Choose the appropriate section from the drop-down menu and click
Apply.
3. Check the box of the students you wish to contact.
4. Select the Email Icon .
5. Compose and send the message.
