complete all necessary requirements in order to receive a diploma or certificate from the school. To graduate
from any of the courses the Pennsylvania Academy of Cosmetology offers you will take written and
practical examination throughout your entire education. This system of grading allows the teacher to see
that all students' progress and complete the requirements necessary to graduate. It also tests the ability of
the student to execute the techniques on clients. We can evaluate your practical knowledge for the various
levels of training and be able to convey this grading system to potential salon owners. Competitions are
additional opportunities not just for student participation, but also as a means of evaluation. The Mock
State Board Written Examination helps prepare you to obtain your license. The reviews and the actual
"Mock" examination spotlight cosmetology laws, client safety and sanitary precautions. Each student must
have a grade of 80% or higher on the Mock examination in order to pass. The grading system for the

LEAVE OF ABSENCE POLICY & PROCEDURE
You may request a leave of absence. Leave of absences are for extenuating circumstances, such as an
accident, prolonged illness, or maternity leave. However, all requests for LOA will be taken into
consideration for reasons other than listed above.
The school may grant a LOA to a student who did not provide the request prior to the LOA due to unforeseen
circumstances. Example, if a student is injured in a car accident or has an unforeseen condition that
prevents them from attending classes. We will document the reason for our decision and collect the request
from the student later noting that the approved LOA would be determined by the school to be the date the
student was unable to attend classes.
A leave of absence will extend the student’s contract period and maximum timeframe by the same number
of days in the leave of absence.
Maximum timeframe for a student’s approved LOA may not be more than 180 days, LOA takes into account
for all periods of nonattendance including weekends, and scheduled breaks. The length for your LOA may
reduce if the 180 days falls on a day the school will be closed.
Requesting a Leave of Absence:
 Apply in advance for a LOA and complete the school’s leave of absence form
 All leave of absence must be in writing and signed by the student and a school official.
 Length of a LOA will be determined on an individual basis
 However, the return date will be determined by the start of the next new cycle as you can only
return on a new cycle start date. Cycles run in 3 week increments.
It is the schools discretion to grant a student one or multiple leaves of absence as long as the total number
of days for all leaves does not exceed 180 days in a 12-month period. This 12-month period begins on the
first day of the student’s initial LOA.
A student who is granted an approved LOA remains in an in-school status for Title IV loan repayment
purposes. A student is given a return date if they do not return on that day they will terminate their contract
and the last date of attendance is used as the withdrawal date. The school must report to the loan holder the
student’s change in enrollment status. One possible consequence a withdrawal may have on the student’s
repayment terms, is the exhaustion of the student’s grace period.

INTERRUPTIONS, COURSE INCOMPLETES, WITHDRAWALS
If enrollment is temporarily interrupted for a leave of absence, the student will return to school in the same
satisfactory academic progress prior to the leave of absence. Hours elapsed during a leave of absence will
extend the student’s contract period and maximum time frame by the same number of days taken in the
leave of absence. Students who withdraw prior to completion of the course and wish to re-enroll will return
in the same satisfactory academic progress status as at the time of withdrawal.
The Pennsylvania Academy of Cosmetology has the right to eliminate or adjust this policy at their
discretion.
