Cynthia’s Welcome to Country HCSC Pr esident R aymond

The Hinchinbrook Community Support Centre celebrated the official opening of their new premises the “HUB” in McIlwraith St., and it was an event to be proud of! Sponsors who contributed to the project were invited to share the celebration with Senator Matthew Canavan, representing Minister Warren Truss, Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Honourables Bob Katter MP and Andrew Cripps MP, Mayor Rodger Bow and Lyn McLaughlin from Regional Development Australia. After the formal proceedings, guests were invited to cut the ribbon and join in a celebratory photo and the cutting of the cake. The diversity of people in attendance reflected the impact that HCSC has on our community:

“always there, caring and connecting”.

On Sunday 29 th June 2014 it was Shut Up & SKATE workshop !! This event was held at the Ingham Skate-park, and Tips, Tricks and Tunes were shared. This event was organised collaboratively by the Hinchinbrook Shire Council and the Hinchinbrook Community Support Centre.

We were lucky enough to have Donny Fraser (founder of the organisation Drawing

Boards) attend Ingham with a professional BMX rider and a pro skater. The guys displayed their own talent at the park and also provided hands on support to everyone who was brave enough to give it a go! Music added to the atmosphere on the day, with local electronica DJ – Emilie playing his tunes. We were also very lucky to have the Ingham Scouts group prepare the sausage sizzle and sell cold drinks.

Donny Fraser gave away piles of DVDs and skateboards to lucky participants on the day.

The Hinchinbrook Community Support Centre also provided 4 scooters and helmets to 4 lucky participants in a random draw. An additional scooter/helmet was given to a young person who showed the best “park etiquette”.

This event was promoted in the school holidays information flyers distributed by the Council. Keep an eye out for these flyers, especially during school holidays.

Many hands make ...... colourful murals.

The mural in the reception area at HCSC was literally the effort of many hands!

Hidden amongst those hands are animals that also have a meaning such as the green tree frog, a symbol of renewal and opportunities, and the Cooktown orchid, the state flower of Queensland. The rainbow and its colours have religious significance for some, symbolise gay pride for others, or simply represent good luck, especially to those buying a lottery ticket.

A dragonfly, hidden amongst green hands reminds us that nothing is quite like it seems. Hands represent connections and, if you look closely, you will notice a beautiful hand-flower that connects the Australian national flag with our

Indigenous flags.

The finishing touch was added with 4 game panels that children are enjoying every time they visit the HUB. The games were purchased thanks to a grant from the Queensland Government, Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services, Caring for our Community grants.

Weetabix .

IS WEETABIX A NUTRITIOUS FOOD?

So is Weetabix cereal good for you or not? This is where we make sense of the nutritional data listed above, and explain what the nutritional benefits of Weetabix are.

Despite coming in such small and light servings, there are actually several nutritional plus points when it comes to consuming Weetabix. Primarily this comes in it's content of dietary fiber, protein, some B vitamins and also iron.

There are also relatively few calories in Weetabix, and a very low content of saturated fat, sodium and cholesterol. Overall there is nothing negative that can be picked out when it comes to Weetabix nutrition, so this is definitely a food that you can include in your diet as frequently as you want.
