Organizational context
The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety is an employer-led public/private partnership dedicated to
improving the safety and health of employees, their families, and members of the communities in which
they live and work by preventing traffic crashes taking place both on and off the job.
Job purpose
The incoming NETS Executive Director will assume overall responsibility, accountability and leadership for the
development and direction of the NETS program, brand and strategic direction, and financial results.
Job duties and responsibilities
The work of the NETS Executive Director will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Strategic leadership
 In close consultation with the NETS Board of Directors, implement the strategic direction of the
organization by growing benchmark and board membership and generating new, impactful and
sustainable road safety initiatives
 Oversee and enhance NETS’ brand, signature programs and services:
 STRENGTH In NUMBERS® fleet safety benchmark program
 Drive Safely Work Week™ campaign

NETS road safety/benchmarking consulting capabilities
Facilitate the sharing of best practices among NETS members such as FORUM
questions and NETS’ Comprehensive Guide to Road Safety™
Cooperative agreements with NHTSA
Management
 Prepare and manage the annual business plan and budget
 Provide management oversight of all NETS staff, including the completion of appropriate training and
professional development
 Manage the planning and hosting arrangements associated with the annual NETS Benchmarking
Conference
 Facilitate monthly NETS board conference calls and ensure formal minutes are issued (including at least
2 face-to-face board meetings, one of which will be held at the annual Benchmark Conference)
 Oversee solid project management (including reporting on the basis of Key Performance Indicators) in
NETS program offerings
 Oversee the formal review and update of the NETS strategic plan and issue to NETS board a minimum of
1x/year
 Oversee a communications program to ensure key customers and stakeholders remain fully informed of
key initiatives and program activities taking place within NETS
 Prepare and proactively manage succession plans of all NETS staff and key 3rd party
consultants/vendors, including legal consultant and website technical resource to ensure sustainability
of NETS products and services
 Maintain timeliness and usefulness of NETS’ website
 Maintain quality communication/brand enhancement via NETSWork and Twitter and LinkedIn
 Responsible for growing NETS revenue through the recruitment of new Board and Benchmark members
and through initiation of revenue generating projects.
External Relations / Partnerships
 Expand the road safety impact of NETS across the US and internationally by:
 Building and maintaining relationships with similar organizations to ensure
leading-edge ideas and initiatives are being achieved (e.g. National Safety
Council, ASSE, GRSP, UNRSC etc.)
 Establishing, updating and maintaining strategic systems to recruit new
members across various industries, and building loyalty of benchmark
members
 Promoting a partnership approach with government, business and civil
society where appropriate
 Representing NETS at selected U.S. and international road safety
conferences and promoting NETS to local media when applicable
 Representing NETS as a member of the United Nations Road Safety

 Undertake other relevant duties as agreed with the NETS Board of Directors
 This position will require travel of at least 25% of time, including 2-3 international trips per year
potentially bridging over weekends
 This position will require day-to-day operations and activities be conducted from within a home office a
minimum of 40 hours per week.
Duties applicable to all staff:

Actively work towards the achievement of the goals of NETS Executive Director

Operate within a home office and execute NETS responsibilities as required by NETS Executive
Director

Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the Board
4.
Advise the Executive Director of any concerns that are brought forth from NETS members through
various channels so they can be promptly addressed

routine exposure to senior leadership
