2001–2002 Salary Report of
Academic Statisticians

n September 2001, ASA asked chairs of statistics departments and professors not associated with a statistics department at U.S. colleges and universities to provide salary,
rank, and time–in–rank information for instructors, assistant
professors, associate professors and full professors. The results
for different ranks of professors are divided into two categories (1) research institutions and (2) liberal arts. Due to
small numbers, salaries for instructors are pooled for all institutions. Salaries reflect academic year (nine-month equivalent)
compensation.

by email, 157 responded and profiled 1203 faculty positions
nationwide.
Chairs of statistics departments and professors who teach
statistics outside a statistics department that did not participate in this study and have a desire to contribute should forward contact information including an email address to Carole
Sutton carole@amstat.org. Suggestions for additional salary
information are welcome. ■
