Public Relations Tells the
Discover Lancaster Story
Our communications staff constantly partners with
our members to garner free publicity for
Lancaster tourism in media outlets around the
region, the country, and the globe.
As a result of these collaborative PR efforts,
Discover Lancaster and its members obtained
coverage in 88 stories during the month of March,
reaching nearly 175 million people and worth
$660,000 in ad value. (The "ad value" of a story is
the amount it would cost to run an advertisement
of equal size in the same media outlet.)
Also in March, we interacted with 27 separate
media outlets – 17 via pro-active pitch and 10 via
re-active response. In addition, we garnered AP
Newswire coverage of our annual Mud Sales
season, resulting in numerous placements,
including a number of major-market and national
print & online outlets.

The Marketing Metrics report allows you to quickly

We are happy to report that e-mail sign-ups,
Getaway Guide requests, and Visitor Center
attendance continues to grow and is significantly
higher than last year at this time.

Tour and Travel
Carissa Garpstas hosted 4 Familiarization Tours
(FAMS) that included Kuoni Group Travel Experts,
German Top Operators in conjunction with
Discover Philadelphia, Vacation Travel Group, and
Funway Tours.
Sports
Next week Chris Ackerman will be attending the
National Association of Sports Commissions Annual
Symposium in Milwaukee and plans to meet with
over 25 event planners.
Meetings & Conventions
Today, April 23, Mara Sultan and the Lancaster
Lodging, Attractions & Meeting Association
(LLAMA) will host over 35 meeting planners in King
of Prussia.
Other News
Last month Chris Ackerman, Mara Sultan, and
Carissa Garpstas completed the Destination
Marketing Association International (DMAI) Sales
Academy II program.
The Smith Travel Accommodations Report (STAR)
shows that year-to-date, Lancaster County is up
3.9% in occupancy, 7.3 in ADR, and 11.4 in
Revenue per Available Room (Rev PAR).
