Hospital in Jaipur on Vijay Gurjar, a budding footballer, whose ambition is a career in professional
football league in Europe. This was the first such surgery in India. Only 21 doctors of 18 other hospitals
in the world have this expertise. Now, our professional sportsmen and other patients with knee
ligament injury can get the most accurate and hi-tech technique in the world for knee ligament surgery,
which was till now available for top level elite athletes in foreign countries. (news covered by all media)

performed in Jaipur with the latest and ultra-precise technique of computer navigation at Santokba
Durlabhji Hospital in Jaipur today. Dr Aashish K Sharma, senior Joint Replacement and Arthroscopic
Surgeon at Jaipur’s Santokba Durlabhji Hospital performed this surgery successfully on a 65 years old
patient Mrs Kamla Devi, whose left hip joint fracture had failed to unite for the last 9 months. This
surgery was performed with the help of the latest “Hip Ultimate 6.0 3D software” imported from
Germany along with the hitech computer navigation hip replacement Brainlab instruments, also just
imported from Germany. Ms Maike Reidl from Brainlab had specially flown down from Germany to
assist Dr Aashish K Sharma to perform this surgery.

operation was done by Dr Aashish K Sharma, a joint replacement and arthroscopy specialist of the state.
Govind, a resident of Bikaner had injured his left knee joint in a motorcycle accident 3about 10 months
back. He had busted three ligaments of his knee – anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate
ligament (PCL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) along with also tearing the medial meniscus, one of
the two “padding washers” in the knee.

International / National Seminaars, Conferences/ Workshops
1. Organized the International Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Meet – CASM 2012 in
Jaipur from 8-11 Nov, 2013
2. Dr Rocco Pitto, Associate Professor of Auckland University, New Zealand addressed the joint session of
the Jaipur Medical Association and Santokba Durlabhji Memorial Hospital and talked about the new
concepts in Total Hip Replacement Techniques on Monday 6th Jan. He advocated the importance of
scie3ntific evidence form Joint Replacement registries and their importance in more safe and long
lasting joints. He was of the opinion that there is enough scientific evidence to support that ceramic on
ceramic hip joint will be the longest surviving joints amongst the commonly available joints today.
However, he said, there is no substitute for a good planning, well done surgery and clean OT
environment. He said that ceramic-on-ceramic bearings appear to be a safe option for young and active
patients, demonstrating a very low wear rate and good clinical results.
a. Dr Rocco Pitto performed a complicated total hip replacement at Santokba Durlabhji Hospital on
Tuesday on Mrs Chameli Devi, 73 years of age, who had had 2 surgeries at other hospitals on her
left hip after she had a hip fracture 8 months back. She has not remained pain free ever since
and has not walked for the last 8 months. The surgery involved removal of the implant which
was put during the earlier surgeries done elsewhere, putting in of a new total hip prosthesis and
bone grafting of the non-united fracture. Dr Jayant Sen and Dr Aashish K Sharma of Santokba
Durlabhji Hospital were also involved in the surgery. The surgery lasted about 2 and half hours
and patient will be able to walk from tomorrow, just the next day of surgery, something which
the patient has not done for the last 8 months. She is expected to remain in the hospital for 3
days more to do a bit of physiotherapy.
