Projects are oriented towards regional climate modeling, uncertainty quantification, and impact studies. The
SIMMER projects looks at heat stress, vulnerability, and adaptive capacity in Houston. Included is survey and sampling design, and data analysis incorporating census information along with information related to the heat island effect, urban canyons, etc.
Dissertation Research, UC Davis: September 2007 - August 2010
This research was also separated into two problems. The majority of the work was developing an effective wind power forecasting method for a Solano California Wind Farm. Methodology included semi-parametric and non-parametric time series analysis and model selection. Similar to a GLM model, we considered a link function that relates the continuous response variable to its predictors. The goal of the second problem was to explore new ways to visualize large data sets using interactive graphical displays and web tools such as
XML, SVG, and JavaScript.
Division of Biostatistics, UC Davis Medical School: September 2009 - August 2010
In this graduate student research position, I looked for the relationship between biomarkers of inflammation, smoking status, and survival status. Duties included performing all survival analysis, summarizing the results in tables, and providing written summaries of all results. Another project included looking at autism status and its relationship with certain cytokines.
Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Wind Energy Division: September 2007 - January 2009
In collaboration with professors and staff from the UC Davis Department of Mechanical Engineering, historical data from SMUDs Solano Wind Farm was analyzed. This included extensive data cleaning and manipulation of large data sets. Analyses were mostly descriptive. Semi-annual reports to SMUD were also delivered.
UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC): September 2006 - September
2008
In this graduate student research position, I was available as a statistical consultant to researchers at the medical school. Analyses included longitudinal, survival, categorical, and mixed effect models in addition to regression and ANOVA. The position was in its essence collaborative and included study design, clinical

trials, data analysis, and providing written summaries to be incorporated into journal articles.
UC Davis Medical School, Department of Internal Medicine: September 2007 - September
2008
This clinical trial research position required both longitudinal data analysis and database management.
In joining the trial several years after it began, it also involved reading and interpreting the code of other statisticians and replicating their results. Clear written summaries were provided for each step of the project.
National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences, NIH: June 2005 - September 2005
During this summer internship, research centered on micro-array studies with missing values. Other topics included multi-variable analysis, order-restricted inference, and developing a method for data quality control.
Computer programs used included ORIOGEN, Ingenuity, and GOTM along with R and SAS.
Teaching Assistant: Mathematical Science of Understanding and Predicting Regional Climate:
A School and Workshop, National University of Singapore (March 2011)
Associate Instructor: Department of Statistics, University of California, Davis (Winter 2006,
Summer 2006, Spring 2009, Summer 2009). Instructor for Introduction to Statistics. Duties included choosing a textbook, preparing lectures, exams, and homework, office hours, and supervising readers and teaching assistants.
Teaching Assistant: Explorations in Statistics Research Workshop (June 2009, University of California, Berkeley. June 2006, University of California, Los Angeles). This weeklong workshop introduces exceptional undergraduates to research in statistics. Duties include working with small groups of students to explain both statistical concepts and programming methodology in R.
Teaching Assistant: Department of Statistics, University of California, Davis (9/04- 3/10) Assisted for courses including Introduction to Statistics, Statistics through Computers, and Statistics for the
Bio-Sciences, Methods of Teaching Statistics. Led discussions, held office hours, prepared test questions, and graded projects and tests.
English Teacher: La Conquista, Costa Rica (5/03-8/03). Volunteered at a rural middle school teaching seventh grade English. Worked with the Costa Rican Ministry of Education, Harvards Center for International Development and members of the community to develop appropriate curriculum. Communicated in
Spanish. Worked with limited resources.
