RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Center for Regenerative Medicine, Scripps Research Institute, 2008- present
Studied the effects of culture methods on the genetic stability and phenotypic properties of
human embryonic stem cells (hESCs). Generated induced pluripotent stem (IPS) cells from
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients and differentiated the IPS cells into motor
neurons.
Department of Neurobiology, Scripps Research Institute, 2008.
Studied the involvement of mitochondrial proteins in the differentiation of mouse and rat neural
progenitor cells into neurons.
Department of Chemistry, University of Florida, 2002 - 2007.
Studied the mechanism of signal transduction of the human adiponectin receptors in the
Saccharomyces cerevisiae and discovered a new human adiponectin receptor, PAQR3. Designed
and patented a high throughput β-galactosidase assay that allows for the detection of inhibitors
and activators of adiponectin receptors.

instructor in the NIH and CIRM sponsored Human Embryonic Stem Cell Comprehensive
Training Course and taught transfection of hESCs and teratoma assays.
Department of Chemistry, University of Florida, 2002 - 2007: Served as a teaching assistant in
general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and bioorganic
chemistry.
