Go for the Grade
Pursue your passion – and your career – as you build a
program that fits you.
You have unrealized potential just dying to get out.
SNHU is a traditional private university but not a
typical one. We believe there are no limits to what
you can achieve or who you can become, so we’d like
to spend the next few years helping you combine your
passion and an innovative education to realize all the
potential you have.
At SNHU, you don’t just learn. You experience
learning – through lively discussions, team-based projects,
internships, volunteering at special events, attending
workshops, observing master teachers at area schools,
presenting at trade shows. We understand that you will apply your
education more by getting these opportunities outside of class. So we’ll
work with you to build in those all-important hands-on
experiences that employers love to see on a résumé.
We will give you the flexibility to shape your degree
around your interests and ambition. You can combine
majors and minors across schools to create a one-ofa-kind skill set. You can choose between a business
or liberal arts foundation. You can even put your
degree on the fast track by participating in one of
our three-year programs, such as College Unbound, which
substitutes classroom time with project-based, realworld learning experiences.
Because SNHU is a teaching university, all faculty
members teach the courses themselves –
which means their primary focus is you.

For Communication major Heidi Quigley ’13, it started with a paper
she had to write on renewable energy for an English class. She didn’t
know much about the subject at the time, but the more she researched,
the more she had to know. It quickly dawned on her – she had just
discovered a new passion for environmental issues. And she knew she
would have to take some courses that fed that passion, even if they
weren’t part of her major.
At SNHU’s School of Arts of Sciences, that was no problem. Quigley’s
advisor worked closely with her to build a program that fueled her
curiosity and supported her career goals. And before she graduated
in May 2013 – with a BA in communication and minors in
environmental studies, marketing and public relations –
she already had an offer from a company to lead their
environmentally conscious marketing efforts.
“My professors were always so willing to help,” says
Quigley. “Any time I had a question, I knew who to go to.
I never felt like it was just about the grade either.”
Quigley – who earned the 2013 Outstanding
Student in Communication and 2013 Peer
Educator of the Year awards – completed
three internships during her time at SNHU,
which she says were instrumental in
helping her land a position.
“I can’t tell you how many emails
I got about available internships
(while at SNHU),” she says.
“Everyone just really wants to
see you do well.”

Lucas Moran ’13 was in the home stretch of earning his BS in Business
Administration as part of the 3Year Honors Program. And he already
had a great position lined up with the Fortune 500 IT company where
he was interning. Then one day, due to steep cuts, just like that, his
future job was a thing of the past.
He was a little disheartened, but he had a year of
real-world experience under his belt through
his internship and three years of intensive
training working in teams, presenting,
researching and analyzing methodologies.
“I got such a well-rounded experience in the
program that I felt like I could literally go into
almost any area of business. I felt incredibly prepared to find a job,” says Moran.

After narrowing down his scholarship offers, Brad Campion ’16,
then a high school senior in Bethlehem, NY, made visits to each of
his top schools. A stand-out soccer player, he knew his meetings with
the coaching staffs would play a big role in his final decision. But
soccer was only part of the equation. He also excelled academically
and was looking for a university that would prepare him for his other
passion – teaching.
When he visited SNHU, Campion noticed something special – a
strong sense of community. “I felt at home from day one. Everyone
is so tight-knit, you have so much support everywhere you turn.
And to have a president who’s so involved, who will Tweet back
to you and have open office hours, that was huge to me.”
Campion was also impressed with the School of Education’s Honors
Program and the fact that education students started gaining the
required 100 hours of field experience their first semester – unlike
so many other schools that make you wait.
As he wrapped up his freshman year in the Honors
Program, double majoring in history and social
studies, it seems clear that SNHU was the right
choice for him. Along with
getting very involved in student clubs
and organizations, Campion earned
the Academic Achievement Award
and the National Student-Athlete Day
Award for scoring the highest GPA of
anyone on the soccer team for the fall
2012 semester.
“There are so many opportunities here,”
says Campion. “And the staff and advisors are
always right there for you. They’ll help with anything
you want if you just reach out.”

Liz White ’08, now a regular on TLC’s “Cake Boss.” The New Jersey
native started interning at Carlo’s City Hall Bake Shop in Hoboken
the summer after her first year in SNHU’s baking and pastry arts
associates program. Two years later, TLC created a series around
the specialty cake store’s charismatic owner, Buddy Valastro,
and White became part of the ensemble cast. She’s now Head
Cake Decorator at Carlo’s.
“I was able to come into it with some baking knowledge,
so I didn’t just have to listen to people tell me what to
do,” says White, who earned her AS in Baking and
Pastry Arts in 2008 and BAS in Hospitality
Administration in 2010.
Although White’s career path is certainly unique,
students in the culinary programs can expect the same
close attention from faculty she enjoyed, as well
as countless opportunities to gain hands-on
experience in the Hospitality Center.
“Classrooms” include The Quill, our
award-winning student-run fine dining
restaurant; Caffé É Dolce, a popular
coffee and pastry shop; a commercial kitchen, a large ballroom and
special labs for catering, baking, cold
food and food production. And there
are numerous off-campus learning
experiences offered, including class
trips, consulting projects, community
service and internships/cooperatives.
“I loved my experience at SNHU so much
because I was able to really connect with a
lot of the people, students and faculty alike,”
White says. “And I knew that there were people
always looking out for my best interests.”

Inspiring Students to Go for It
SNHU faculty members are masters at the art of teaching
and inspiring. In addition to excelling in the classroom, they
boast a wealth of experience in the world of industry and are
often called upon as experts in their fields of study.
They have PhDs from distinguished universities such
as Harvard, Columbia and Yale. They’re Fulbright
Scholars, hall of fame chefs and NY Times bestselling authors. They’re digital design pioneers, patent

community activists, award-winning educators and
consultants for professional sports teams.
And they’re yours.

A Campus That’s Going Places
New construction, new buildings and new renovations mean
exciting new opportunities for you to explore, learn and grow.
It might sound like an exaggeration, but there’s truly never been a more exciting time to be at SNHU. Just walk around
campus and you’ll see why. New buildings are going up. Existing buildings are being renovated. And students now have
more reasons than ever to live, work and play on campus. And while these physical changes can’t convey the welcoming
and caring community you’ll experience when here, they do convey our commitment to providing you with the best
facilities, equipment and technology to reach your full potential. Here are just a few recent examples of our progress:
New Academic Center (Opened 2009)
With state-of-the-art classrooms, Mac and game design
labs, group study rooms, and a learning commons where
you can grab a bite to eat and study in between classes,
our new, spacious eco-friendly Academic Center is fast
becoming a student favorite.
New Dining Center (Opened 2010)
From pizzas to paninis, from stir fry to salads, no matter
what you’re craving, chances are you can find it at one
of the eight restaurants located inside our new Dining
Center. Eat inside at one of the many booths or tables
in the common area, or outside on the patio on those
beautiful fall and spring days.
Tuckerman Hall (Opened Fall 2013)
Students are excited to learn that they now have a shiny
new environmentally friendly residence hall on campus.
The 308-bed coed facility features high-efficiency lighting
systems, secure entrances and spacious common areas.
New Learning Commons (Fall 2014)
True to its name, when the new Learning Commons
opens it will serve as a hub for academic resources,
support, and development for students and faculty.
Inside you’ll find a new state-of-the art library, IT help
desk and Learning Center, where our undergraduate
day students will go to get extra assistance with classes.

Go Get Involved
With more than 65 clubs and organizations to join, and less
than five miles to downtown Manchester, you have countless
opportunities to get involved, give back and have fun.
You’ve probably browsed through our majors, got a
glimpse of what we offer academically, and now you’re
wondering, “What’s there to do for fun?” It’s a popular
question. And the simple answer is, “A lot.” Just take a
look at the sidebar on the right that lists all our clubs
and organizations. But that’s just part of the story. There
are also special events, concerts and performances
on campus each semester, student- and faculty-led
community volunteer efforts, intramural sports, a fitness
center, an exercise studio, an Olympic-regulation pool
and any number of other events such as the wildly
popular Bingo Night at The Last Chapter Pub.
You’re also a short drive (or heck, even a bike ride) from
downtown Manchester, which Forbes magazine named to
its most recent “most livable cities” list. So you’ll be close
to major concerts and professional hockey at the Verizon
Wireless Center, minor league baseball games at
Northeast Delta Dental Stadium, all the nightlife hotspots
and restaurants around Elm Street, specialty apparel
stores and boutiques, kayaking spots along the Merrimack
River, and the renowned Currier Museum of Art.
It’s also important to know that Southern New Hampshire
University is a multicultural, multiethnic, multi-gender
and multigenerational university, committed to creating
a safe, welcoming environment for all students. Our
Office of Diversity Initiatives, for example, collaborates
with students, faculty and staff on educational and
enrichment activities and events that help support
underrepresented students while promoting the larger
message of inclusivity. There are also three student
organizations dedicated specifically to promoting
diversity across campus – The Beloved Community,
the International Student Association and Generation
Equality. And SNHU recently formed the President’s
Commission for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender
and Queer Advocacy, which focuses on ensuring a safe,
positive experience for students, faculty, staff and alumni
who identify as part of the LGBTQ community through
advocacy, policy review, programming and education.
SNHU has a long tradition of volunteering
in its community. Students, faculty and
staff regularly raise money for (and lend
a hand to) organizations such as the
American Cancer Society, Habitat for
Humanity, United Way, New Hampshire
Food Bank, Operation Frontline, Salvation
Army and many more.

Where Student Athletes Go All Out
With new records broken, new personal bests topped and
new sports added again, the Penmen remain among the elite
Division II athletics programs.
• Consistently ranked among the top programs in the
country, the men’s soccer team has participated in
19 NCAA Tournaments since 1986 and advanced
to the NCAA Tournament national championship
game in 2002.
• The men’s basketball team, a longtime New England
powerhouse, has claimed six NCAA Regional titles
and has advanced to the Division II Final Four twice.
• Three teams (men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s
basketball) claimed Northeast-10 championships in
2012-13, while men’s and women’s tennis reached the
NE-10 final.
• The men’s baseball team earned an NCAA Division II
bid the past two seasons in 2011 and 2012.
• A record-high six teams reached their respective
NCAA Tournament in 2012-13 (baseball, men’s
basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s
and women’s tennis).
Our facilities outperform, too. The athletic complex is
home to a 5,500-square-foot fitness center, a 2,000-seat
field house, an auxiliary gym, a 25-meter competition
swimming pool (with viewing gallery), a racquetball
court, a mirrored dance room, training and team rooms,
and more. Outside facilities include four lighted tennis
courts, recently renovated and lighted baseball and
softball diamonds, practice fields and a lighted
soccer/lacrosse field that features a state-of-the-art
FieldTurf surface (viewed by many as the “ultimate
all-weather surface”).
“At SNHU, you automatically have a group of friends
if you’re on a sports team. You have a team of people
who are there for you and have your back so that you
can always walk on the field feeling more confident.”

Experience Manchester, Boston
and Beyond
Get to Boston, the beaches or the ski slopes in less
than an hour.
Just five miles down the road (easily bikeable) is
downtown Manchester, which Forbes magazine named
one of the “most livable cities.” Here’s where you can
find nightlife hotspots and restaurants around Elm
Street, major concerts and professional hockey at the
Verizon Wireless Arena and minor league baseball
games at the Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
There’s also so much waiting for you to explore around
the region – especially within an hour’s drive. All you
have to do is point your car in the right direction and go.
If you’re looking for adventures in the great outdoors,
travel less than an hour north and you’re able to hit the
slopes in the White Mountains, or drive an hour east and
you’re at the beaches of Hampton and Rye.
Travel about 50 miles farther south and you’ll end up
in downtown Boston, which is a big draw for a lot of
students, personally and professionally. You can catch
all the major professional sports or visit world-renowned
museums. Another big advantage to having Boston
close is that you have so many more opportunities to
intern, network and gain that all-important real-world
experience employers are looking for.

Expand your perspective as a global citizen.
Immerse yourself in other cultures, discover new

Save Time and Money
Turn Your College Credits Into a College Degree
You’ve worked hard to earn all those college credits.
That’s why we make it easy to transfer them in so you
can graduate quickly and affordably. SNHU lets you
apply up to 90 credits toward a bachelor’s degree, and a
transfer admission advisor will work with you to help
make your transition to SNHU as simple and seamless
as possible.
Why is SNHU such a popular choice for students
looking to transfer? Perhaps it’s because we offer a
flexible, versatile bachelor’s degree program in every
school so students with wide-ranging interests and
career goals can maximize their time here. Perhaps
it’s because we will transfer credits from another
college or degree as well as previous eligible military
experience into the program of your choice. Perhaps
it’s because we offer partnership agreements and a
Regional Community College Scholarship that rewards
students who understand the value of working hard.
Lastly, we provide all the support needed to our transfer
students – before, during and after they graduate.
For more information, contact the Office of Transfer Admission at

BA Creative Writing
Melanie Blackman transferred to SNHU as a junior in the fall of 2012. A member
of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society at NHTI – Concord’s Community College,
where she previously attended, she earned admission into SNHU’s Honors
Program and quickly immersed herself in learning the art and craft of writing.
“I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to write and receive guidance from people
who really know what they’re doing,” she says. “It’s so helpful to have teachers
who know the business.”
Blackman credits her seamless transition to SNHU in part because
she attended SNHU’s weekly transfer orientation course during her
first semester. “I found out who to talk to for study abroad and
internships, and learned about activities on campus to meet new
people. That really helped.”

that an SNHU degree, with all the benefits of a private
education, is more affordable than a public college or
university where the real costs are often hidden within
the fees, lack of grant aid and huge classes. SNHU can
be the school you love and the school you can afford.

of success at the college level. However, please note that
homeschooled students are required to submit copies of
their SAT or ACT scores (with writing) to complete their
applications.
“It’s a really intimate setting. You’re not
one in a million. Your professors know
you by name. That reassured me that
this is probably the place I want to go.”

Feels Like Home
We hear that a lot from our students.
It could be our faculty and staff who
are usually quick with a smile and eager
to help. It could be all the activities
and events going on that students
get involved with. It could be our small
size, which lets you really get to know
everyone. Whatever the reasons, we’re
proud that so many students feel that
way. And we’ll do our best to make
you feel at home, too.
We Don’t Like to Brag
But when SNHU wins an award or earns special recognition for an accomplishment, we’re proud to let everyone know. It reflects our wonderfully
innovative and caring community of faculty, staff and students. Here are just a few accolades we’re glad to share:
• National Journal magazine named SNHU one of its “50 Problem
Solvers Washington Can Learn From”
• BestCollegeOnline.com included us on its list of the top 20 Best
Colleges for Socially Conscious Students.
• The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) granted SNHU landmark
approval in 2013 for our revolutionary College for America
program – the first and only program of its kind to be approved
by the DOE. College for America offers an affordable, accessible,
quality education for the nearly 40 million Americans who have
yet to complete their degrees.
• The Chronicle of Higher Education recognized SNHU as a “2012
Great College to Work For.”
• SNHU was the only university in the country to make Fast
Company’s 2012 World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies,
ranking #12 along such heavy hitters as Apple, Google and HBO.
• Business New Hampshire Magazine named us the 2013 Business
of the Year in the Education category.
• SNHU is a past recipient of the New England Higher Education
Excellence Award and several NH Business Review’s “Best of
Business” awards.
• SNHU is also a Military-Friendly School and a member of
the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges. We are proud to
participate in the Yellow Ribbon program.
