IDEAS When someone says, “It can’t be done,” they probably mean: “I don’t know how to do it. At what exhilarating moment does a new idea spark a barrier-‐breaking original thought? For René Descartes, it came in a stove-‐heated small room where he lay watching flies on the ceiling over his bed. From his visionary observations of the flies and their changing juxtapositions, Descartes conceived the idea of Geometrical Relationships which determined the theory of inverted images. In today’s world, to say “impossible” always puts you on the losing side. Every problem is an inspiring opportunity when pursued with a vigorous belief in the possible. A person of bright ideas is a shaper of “what might be” and not shackled by “what is.” An idea is a dream put into action. The wayside is filled with brilliant men and women who start with a spurt but lack the stamina and fortitude to finish. Their places are taken by those with ideas who never know when to quit. There is a compelling inner drive, an irrepressible streak to get ahead— to break their own records, to outstrip their yesterday by today, and to do their work with more resolve and zeal than ever before. An extraordinary impulse to generate new ideas. An idea is the mightiest force, the greatest influence on earth. Words and dreams are over-‐abundant. But ideas that rouse can change the world. A person touches the highest pinnacle of fulfillment when he or she is consumed in the quest of an idea. – Jerry Panas 1
