THIS IS A HOMEWORK INTENSIVE CLASS!
The Course: APUSH is a college level survey course of American history, it is designed
to be the equivalent of a two-semester introductory college or university US History
course. . The purpose of the course is to prepare students for the AP exam given at
the end of the year.
Necessary Materials: Students are expected to have
- A notebook to take notes on discussions and readings
- A binder to keep materials all year long and in order.
Weekly Assessment: A chapter or more will be covered each week except for weeks
when we have an exam. Short reading quizzes will be given on a daily basis pertaining to
a particular section(s) within the chapter. On the last day of the week students will take a
comprehensive AP quiz (a primary or secondary source prompt) covering topics within
that chapter and previous chapters. Students are also required to work on a study guide to
help them understand what they are reading and turned in at the end of the week.
Participation: Each week students will be required to read specific sections in the book
to prepare for discussions. Students will receive points as they answer discussion
questions, each student is required to earn 5pts each week. Students are expected to come
to class prepared for discussions. The discussions points are then added up and put into
the grade book at the end of each quarter. If the student has difficulty with class
discussion the student may write on every discussion question prompted and must write
at least 1 paragraph per question (about 8-10 questions each week).
Exams: a comprehensive exam will be given approximately every eight chapters. The
final exam will cover chapters 2-34. Exams will be structured like the official AP exam.
Each exam is cumulative, covering materials from the past chapters. One exam will be
given each quarter.
