FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY Volume 1, Issue 1 Gardner-Webb University Christmas, 2009 Merry Christmas from the Dean of the Library, Mary Roby Christmas in the Library . . . Candles in the windows, a beautiful Christmas tree at the front door, candy on the counter, and stressed-out students studying for final exams. We are happy to be able to provide a friendly, relaxed place to study during this time of year. We have dedicated faculty and staff that provide a welcoming and comforting atmosphere for the students and it is my pleasure to serve with them here at Gardner-Webb. This year, instead of giving gifts to each other, we gave gifts to the Angel Tree in Webb Hall and contributed two boxes to Operation Christmas Child. I am truly thankful for the generosity and giving spirit here in the Library. I am so pleased that we have begun our new Friends of the Library group here at the Dover Memorial Library. We have completed another successful semester, graduating over 300 students on December 14. During exam time we offered extended hours and free coffee, hot tea and hot chocolate for our students. If you would like to encourage our students by sponsoring a study break during exam time, please contact the Development Office at (704) 4064101 or go to www.supportgwu.com . We have several opportunities available to honor those in your life and have a direct impact on the library’s resources. For example, after each graduation, friends and families of graduating seniors are invited to donate $50 to the library to name a book in the graduate’s honor. The book may be selected by the donor, or it can be left to the library’s discretion. Either way, it is a great way to help the library and leave a lasting tribute to your Gardner-Webb graduate. For other creative giving options, please contact the Development Office at (704) 406-4101. CLOSED for Christmas break Gardner-Webb University The John R.
