As we continue to grow the club, we ask for your help in recruiting new members. Do you know a family member, friend or work colleague that “should” be playing golf at
French Creek this year? We have very attractive and competitive promotions for new members to join now. Whether they are joining their first club or looking for a change of scenery from their current club, we have a membership promotion that will work for all. Your efforts will not be overlooked, please contact me to find out the incentive we have when you help recruit a new member.

Quick Golf Tip of the Month:
Do your scores range from the North to South Pole on a day-to-day or hole-to-hole basis? Do you want to score consistently lower than you have been? If so, work on relaxation.
Without relaxation, it is more difficult to maintain your tempo or rhythm from swing to swing and stay in good balance from start to finish. Because it is essential for the golf swing to function properly, relaxation of the mind and body should be our first priority.
Tension restricts movement. A quiet, relaxed mind and body allows you to swing more freely. Simply stated, muscle groups respond more easily to a natural, balanced swing motion.
If your mind is tense, your muscles will be too. If you have had a hectic day at work or at home, chances are you will take that tension and anxiety to the first tee. This tension not only causes tight muscles, but can also increase the speed of your swing. When that happens, the little muscles (hands and arms) take over the big muscles (shoulders, hips, and legs) throughout the golf swing. The big muscle groups cannot move as fast as the little muscles. All body parts must be given time to do their jobs efficiently and in harmony.

We’ve had a number of false starts to the spring of 2013. This past weekend was the best by far from a weather standpoint, though earlier in the week we did encounter two heavy frosts. Hopefully the showers experienced on Monday and
Tuesday will set the tone for May flowers and sustained turfgrass growth.
We beat up the greens a few times in April and coupled with the inconsistent weather the healing process has been slow. Not only did we aerate and brush in 50 plus tons of sand we also deep sliced the greens using a Planet Air machine and followed that up with another topdressing. Very tough on the mowers when they are constantly cutting sand. This past Monday, after mowing we put new bed knives on the mowers and re-sharpened the reels to get back to the quality of cut we desire. Height of cut was lowered to .110 of an inch so greens should round into shape shortly. The reason for so much activity in April on the greens is that all
Mondays in May are taken up with outings which leaves us very little time to get our oxygen replacement programs in order for the summer months. As always we look to topdress every 14 to 17 days so for May we’ll be topdressing ten greens each week to keep diluting the organic matter which the turfgrass produces naturally along with keeping the surfaces smooth. Over the summer months our aeration is performed with needle tines which do not impact putting. As always a real balancing act in terms of making the course as playable as possible while meeting the needs of the turfgrass plant.
Our days for the next four months are filled with lots of hours mowing, changing cups, raking bunkers and performing all the maintenance tasks that make French
Creek such a wonderful course to play.

So, we have finally hit grilling season again. Thank goodness. Time for cutting grass and mulching (see Bruce), outdoor barbeques, and practicing on the golf game (see Jeff). So, let’s talk food. Our spring dinner menu, which started in March, has been well received. The French Creek Duo, a 6oz. filet mignon with 2 jumbo Dungeness crab stuffed shrimp over mushroom risotto, has been a meal of choice. The blackened grouper with nectarine salsa is a little lighter and has also gotten rave reviews. The Sous Vide French cut Pork Chop is the Chef’s favorite, but no matter what you prefer I recommend stopping in and saying hello and finding a spot on the back porch area and enjoying a dinner and the nice Spring weather.
The month of May brings Mother’s Day and our Mother’s Day Buffet on Sunday, May12th. It will feature a raw bar, roast tenderloin and turkey, salmon fillet with an orange balsamic reduction, an omelet station, a kid’s station, and a grand dessert station. We always have a big crowd, so call in your reservation early. Check out the link to the full menu in this newsletter.
Family style Dining will be on Wednesday, May 22 nd . The theme will be Dining Across the Globe. We will feature favorites from Italy, France, Germany, and the U.S. Be sure to check it out.
So, back to grilling. On Friday, May 10 th , we will host our first 9, Wine & Dine of the season. I have planned a grill menu (weather permitting) and will be grilling marinated chicken, salmon and flank steak outside on the patio. Don’t miss it.
Also, Saturday, May 18 th , I am planning on setting up the grill by the snack cart near 11 tee box from 11:30-3:00. We will be grilling hot dogs, burgers, and chicken sandwiches. This is also Day 1 of the President’s Cup. Plan on grabbing lunch off the grill at the turn. If successful, we will plan to do this a couple times a month through the summer.
Starting on Wednesday, June 5th, we will change the dinner menu and feature some lighter, garden menu options that will be available from the garden through the summer. Can’t wait, as Lindsey has been working hard planting and seeding since the end of March. I am sure we will have many fresh fruits and veggies at our fingertips to keep the freshness in our dishes, and to create many wonderful specials.
Enjoy the Spring, see you at the club.
Chef Joe
