Interactive Practice Activities

Drag and Drop Activities

Use these activities to

• Review the sequence of the events of meiosis

• Practice recognizing cells in different phases of meiosis

Virtual Lab Investigation: Build the Phases of Meiosis

Overview

In this lab you will build each phase of meiosis by arranging the chromosomes and cell parts in the cell.

Procedure

1. Follow the Instructions at the top left to help you move through this investigation.

2. Drag and drop the correct cell parts into the blank cell outline to build each phase.

If you need to erase an image, click on the eraser button and then on the cell part you would like to erase.

If you want to erase all cell parts that you have placed on the screen, then click the clear all button.

3. Once you've constructed a phase, you have the option of clicking on the self check button at the top right.

This displays a sample cell in the current phase and allows you to check your work. Keep in mind that the cell you built might not look exactly like the self check image; use the self check as a guide to checking your understanding of what is happening in each phase.

4. Click on the next button to move forward through the phases of meiosis.

5. Once you complete Meiosis I, click on the Meiosis II button, which will allow you to continue building the phases of Meiosis II.

6. If you would like a picture of the cell phase that you built, click on the print screen button.
