APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Exchange applicants apply online at: http://muohio.edu/study-abroad/exchange-application
Exchange coordinators are asked to send the following hard copy documents for all applicants in a single
express mail package to Karla Guinigundo. Applicants can download the forms from the online application.
Application documents received after the deadline can delay the issuing of immigration documents and course
pre-registration.
A. Exchange Student Financial Form, including bank statement or balance verification
B. Signed Disciplinary Questionnaire
C. Official Transcript (must be an original document issued by the institution and include an original
institutional stamp, signature or seal)
D. Copy of Passport photo page
E. Class Selection Form
F. Official TOEFL or IELTS scores
• Minimum for general university is 80 iBT or 6.5 IELTS
• Minimum for Farmer School of Business is 89 iBT or 7.0 IELTS (these scores are required to
enroll in all courses with prefixes ACC, BUS, BLS, BTE, ECO, ESP, FIN, ISA, MGT, and
MKT)
COURSE OFFERINGS
Students typically take between 12-16 credits during each exchange semester. Students can access course
descriptions and prerequisite information at the following website (select ‘Courses of Instruction’):

Students can search course offerings by term at http://www.admin.muohio.edu/cfapps/courselist/.
*IMPORTANT! Students who meet language requirements and prerequisites for business classes (ACC, BUS, BLS, BTE,
ECO, ESP, FIN, ISA, MGT, and MKT) are eligible to take up to three business courses only, no more than two from the
same department. A surcharge of $100 per credit hour is assessed for business courses and is not covered by exchange

HOUSING
Exchange students are housed in on-campus residence halls. Rooms are generally double occupancy.

On-campus Rate: $2,625-$4,884 per semester, with a $330 non-refundable security deposit. Rates by room
type can be found at https://www.hdg.muohio.edu/Housing/Rates/. Rates are subject to change.
Off-campus Option: Students who are 21 years or older or have completed two full years of university study
have the option of living off-campus with home university approval. Students choosing to live off campus are
responsible for finding their own accommodations.
Temporary housing is provided during orientation and prior to the official opening of the residence halls at a
fee of $33/night. Students will also incur a fee of $26/night if they stay in dorm rooms during Thanksgiving
break, winter break or spring break. These periods are not covered by housing contracts. Rates are subject to
change.
DINING
Miami University offers its exchange students living on campus the Diplomat Meal Plan at various levels
tailored to the individual’s needs. There are five all-you-can-eat dining halls along with dozens of cafes and
restaurants on-campus. Dining options can be found at http://www.hdg.muohio.edu/EatingAtMiami/.
Diplomat Meal Plan costs range from $2,386 - $3,486. Rates are subject to change.
Please note that dining halls will have limited openings or may be closed during break periods and orientation.
HEALTH INSURANCE
Miami University requires all students to carry some form of major medical insurance. A basic student health
insurance policy is available and costs $358* for Fall Semester and $504* for Spring/Summer Semester is

The Miami University policy can be waived with proof of an acceptable policy meeting the following minimum
requirements:

Medical benefits of at least $50,000 per accident or illness
Repatriation of remains in the amount of $7,500
Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home
country in the amount of $10,000
A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness.
J-1 Visa Requirements: Sponsors are to require that their participants (and any dependents entering the
United States as holders of a J-2 visa) have insurance in effect during the period of time they are in the
sponsor's program. An insurance policy secured to meet the benefits requirements must be underwritten by
an insurance corporation with an A.M. Best rating of "A-" or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd.
(ISI) rating of "A-I" or above, a Standard and Poor's Claims Paying Ability rating of "A-" or above, or a Weiss
Research, Inc. rating of B+ or above. Alternatively, the sponsor may ascertain that the participant's policy is
backed by the full faith and credit of the government of the exchange visitor's home country.

ARRIVAL TRANSPORTATION AND ORIENTATION
Miami University offers a $30 bus service from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport for all
incoming international students and has arranged a discounted airport hotel rate for those who need it.

A comprehensive orientation is provided to all incoming exchange students that will include sessions on
immigration, American classroom culture, academic integrity, support services at Miami, and social activities
with other exchange and international students. Students arriving for the fall semester are also able to
participate in Miami’s Welcome Week activities for all new Miami students.
