NEWS AND NOTES The Bruins hit 11 home runs in their three-game Regional sweep last weekend to give them 88 round-trippers on the year. UCLA has hit a home run in 14 of its last 15 contests. The 88 home runs are tied for the second-best, single-season total in UCLA history. The 2003 title-winning team hit 88 homers, with the school record being 95 by the NCAA Champion 1999 squad ... the Bruins are on pace to break the team single-season records for slugging and on base percentages. UCLA is slugging at .578, better than the previous best of .558 in 1999, and have an on base percentage of .426, bettering the .418 mark in 2002. The Bruins are also on pace to break the single-season walks record. UCLA currently has 217 free passes and the record is 223 (2002) ... senior Megan Langenfeld’s slugging (1.037) and on base percentages (.650) currently stand as the second-best totals in UCLA history for a single season. Stacey Nuveman holds the benchmark with a 1.045 slugging and a .665 on base percentage ... the Bruins are hitting .333 with runners in scoring position. Leading the way is junior GiOnna DiSalvatore, who is 27-for-55 (.491) with runners in scoring position. Langenfeld is batting .457 (21-for-46) with RISP ... UCLA has 13 comeback victories this season, including two last weekend against San Diego State and Fresno State ... the Bruins are 16-1 when scoring in the first inning ... UCLA is 31-0 when scoring at least six runs, but just 12-11 when scoring five or fewer ... the Bruins are 28-0 when leading after five innings and 22-0 when winning after six ... junior Katie Schroeder, who played in only seven games this season, will not return this year due to a left leg injury. Schroeder hit .364 with a homer and three RBI through the first two weekends of the season. She will apply for a medical redshirt, and if granted, will be a fourth-year junior in 2011. BRUINS IN THE POLLS UCLA jumped up two spots to fourth in the final regular-season ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings, earning 15 more points. There was no new USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll this week, in which the Bruins were ranked fifth in the final regular-season poll. BRUINS ON THE WEB Gametracker will be available for all UCLA softball games this season at UCLABruins.com. In addition, all Regional and Super Regional contests will be broadcast on the UCLA website. BRUINS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS The Bruins enter the postseason in the Top 30 nationally in seven statistical categories, including sixth in home runs per game (1.63) and slugging (.579). The 2010 Bruins set a school record on Feb. 20 when they posted their fifth-straight, mercy-rule victory against UC Davis (8-0 in six innings). The streak began on Feb. 17 when UCLA swept both ends of a doubleheader at UC Santa Barbara by scores of 14-0 in five innings and 11-1 in six. On Feb. 19, the Bruins continued the streak with a 9-0, five-inning win against Cal State Northridge and an 8-0, five-inning triumph TWO-OUT SUCCESS Of the 22 runs scored by the Bruins last weekend, 13 of them came home with two outs. The award for Langenfeld is the fourth of her career, making her the eighth Bruin to receive four All-Region awards, joining Caitlin Benyi, Tracy Compton, Debbie Doom, Lisa Fernandez, Stacey Nuveman, Anjelica Selden and Natasha Watley. Langenfeld was named first team in 2008 and second team in 2007. There was no first or second-team designation in 2009. DiSalvatore’s award is her third in a row after earning first-team honors in 2008. It is Harrison’s first All-Region accolade. The Bruins have earned 14 All-Region honors over the last three seasons. LANGENFELD NAMED PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE YEAR Senior Megan Langenfeld was named Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Year on May 19, becoming the 12th Bruin to earn POY honors. In addition, 10 Bruins were honored on the All-Pac-10 and All-Freshman Teams. Langenfeld joins three-time winners Lisa Longaker (‘87, ‘88, ‘90), Lisa Fernandez (‘91-’93) and Stacey Nuveman (‘99, ‘01, ‘02), as well as Natasha Watley (‘03) and Andrea Duran (‘06), as Pac-10 Player of the Year honorees. It is the fourth All-Pac-10 honor and second first-team accolade for Langenfeld, who was also named first team a year ago. Joining Langenfeld on the All-Pac-10 First Team were junior GiOnna DiSalvatore and sophomore Andrea Harrison. DiSalvatore has been named All-Pac-10 three times, but this is her initial first-team award. Harrison was named honorable mention a year ago. Senior Julie Burney was named to the All-Pac-10 Second Team, while senior Kaila Shull, juniors Monica Harrison and Donna Kerr and sophomore Dani Yudin were all named to the All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention Team. The award is the third of Shull’s career, the second for Burney, Harrison and Kerr and the first for Yudin. B.B. Bates was recognized on the All-Freshman Team, while Charlotte Dolan was named to the All-Freshman Honorable Mention Team. The three first-team honors for the Bruins were tied for the most in the conference along with Arizona and Washington. The eight all-conference nods were tied for the second most behind Washington. BRUINS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT UCLA is making its 26th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and holds a record of 167-40 (.807 winning percentage). The Bruins improved to 75-8 (.904) all-time in the Regional round after going undefeated for the 19th time in 26 Regionals. Since the NCAA field expanded to the Super Regional round in 2005, the Bruins are 7-3 (.700), advancing to the Women’s College World Series in ‘05 by defeating Georgia in three games, in ‘06 by beating South Florida in two contests and in ‘08 by sweeping Georgia. UCLA lost its first Super Regional last year against Missouri in three games. The Bruins have now hosted Super Regionals five of the last six seasons. UCLA is 54-6 (.900) during postseason games in Westwood (47-3 in Regionals, 7-3 in Super Regionals). BRUIN PLAYERS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT In 11 postseason games, sophomore Samantha Camuso has hit five home runs after leaving the yard three times last weekend. She is hitting .400 (12-for-30) with 10 runs batted in during the NCAA Tournament. In the circle, Langenfeld is 4-3 with a 1.94 earned run average and 43 strikeouts in 54 innings, while junior Donna Kerr is 2-0 with 18 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings. SCOUTING THE RAGIN’ CAJUNS Louisiana-Lafayette swept the Baton Rouge Regional last weekend, knocking off Texas A&M (5-0) and LSU (1-0) before beating A&M in the Regional Championship game 6-1. The Ragin’ Cajuns have won seven in a row after going 4-0 at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament to win the NCAA automatic berth. Louisiana-Lafayette also won the regular-season SBC title with a 19-5 mark. The Bruins and the Ragin’ Cajuns have six common opponents, with UCLA going 6-3 and ULL going 5-4. The Bruins went 2-0 against Fresno State, 1-0 against Cal State Fullerton, Florida Atlantic and Texas, 12 against Washington and 0-1 against Michigan. The Ragin’ Cajuns went 4-0 against conference rival FAU and 1-0 against Fresno, losing to Fullerton, Michigan, Texas and Washington. ULL hit .274 in its Regional last weekend with two homers and three stolen bases, averaging 4.0 runs per game. Junior Gabriele Bridges went 4-for-9 (.444), hitting both of ULL’s homers and driving in six runs. Senior Vallie Gaspard and freshman Nerissa Myers both went 4for-10 (.400). Senior Brittany Cuevas went 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 14 innings, while junior Donna Bourgeois tossed a five-hit shutout against LSU, striking out five. THE MATCHUP: BRUINS V. RAGIN’ CAJUNS The Bruins and the Ragin’ Cajuns have met six previous times, all in the NCAA Tournament, with UCLA holding a 5-1 advantage. The Bruins have won the last three meetings. The last matchup came in Oklahoma City on May 24, 2003, with the Bruins winning 5-1. In 1997, UCLA was sent to Lafayette for Regionals. The Bruins lost the first game to ULL 4-1 to fall to the loser’s bracket, but came back to win their next three of the weekend, beating the Ragin’ Cajuns twice on the final day by scores of 9-0 in five innings and 3-0. The first two meetings came at the WCWS in 1993 (1-0) and 1996 (32), with the Bruins winning both times. THE HITTER After sitting last Friday to rest a left hamstring injury, senior Megan Langenfeld came back in fine fashion on Saturday against San Diego State, going 2-for-2 with a pair of solo homers and two walks. After walking in the first, Langenfeld launched a mammoth home run over the trees in right field to tie the game at one in the third inning. Two innings later, the senior hit a line drive to right that just cleared the wall to give UCLA the lead at 2-1. She would be walked intentionally in her final at-bat. Langenfeld enters Super Regional play leading the team in average (.500), runs batted in (49), slugging (1.037), on base percentage (.650), walks (38) and hit by pitches (10). The senior is also tied for first with 16 home runs, second with 40 runs scored and fourth with 10 doubles. Langenfeld is third on the team with 18 multiple-hit games, posting seven of them during Pac-10 play. She hit a team-best .444 in conference with a team-high 21 walks, notching two-hit games against Oregon State (April 18), Stanford (April 23 and 25), Oregon (April 30 and May 2), California (May 7) and Arizona (May 13). On April 30 against the Ducks, Langenfeld drove in a career-high five on a three-run double and a two-run single. The weekend prior to that, the senior was named Pac-10 and USA Softball National Player of the Week after posting four homers, eight RBI and six runs scored in a three-game sweep of Stanford. Langenfeld tied a career high with two homers and drove in four in both the first and third contests against the Cardinal. Four of Langenfeld’s 18 multi-hit games have been threehit affairs against Cal Poly (Feb. 19 and March 23), Portland State (Feb. 21) and Northwestern (Feb. 27). She drove in multiple runs in all of the games and homered in each contest except against Northwestern, posting four RBI in the February affair with Cal Poly and three RBI in the other three matchups. Langenfeld had five NINE-TIME PACIFIC-10 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS (1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1999, 2002, 2006, 2009) UCLA SOFTBALL WEEKLY RELEASE • MAY 26, 2010 • PAGE 3 straight, multiple-hit games from Feb. 19-26. She has 15 multiRBI games, which leads the team. Langenfeld has hitting streaks of eight (Feb. 19-27) and six (Feb. 13-17) games this season and has reached base in all but two games via either a hit, walk or hit by pitch. The senior has scored multiple runs in a game 12 times, including three apiece in both ends of a doubleheader at UCSB and at Stanford on April 23. She has also been walked twice in a game 10 times and at least once in 27 of her 42 contests. DANG LANG ... THE PITCHER Langenfeld did not pitch last weekend, but did earn both Bruin victories in the last series of the regular season at Arizona. She struck out a season-high eight on May 13 and pitched 5 2/3 innings of relief for the win on May 15. Making her first start since Feb. 27, the senior allowed five runs, 10 hits and three walks in eight frames in the May 13 extra-inning victory. Two days later, she came in the game in relief and struck out three, giving up two runs, five hits and two walks. Langenfeld is 10-1 with three saves on the year with a 1.29 earned run average and 56 strikeouts in 87 innings. She was a perfect 6-0 in Pac-10 play with two saves, posting a 1.43 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 44 innings. The senior pitched 17 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings to open conference action from April 16 to May 7, earning wins against Stanford (April 25), Oregon (April 30) and California (May 7 and 8), to go along with saves versus Stanford (April 24) and Oregon (May 2). Langenfeld pitched at least three innings of scoreless relief in four of those games, tossing three hitless innings on April 24 at Stanford, five shutout frames the next day against the Cardinal, 4 1/3 scoreless innings on April 30 versus Oregon and 5 2/3 shutout innings on May 8 against Cal. Her four victories during non-conference play came against Tennessee (Feb. 13), UC Davis (Feb. 20), Northwestern (Feb. 27) and Long Beach State (March 26). She pitched five shutout innings and struck out four against the Lady Vols and fanned a half dozen in six shutout frames against Davis. The senior also struck out six against Northwestern and fanned seven against Ohio State on Feb. 28. Langenfeld’s most impressive performance this season may have come in back-to-back games on Feb. 14. She threw a careerhigh 13 innings in a hard-luck, 4-2 loss to Michigan. On Sunday against Fresno State, the sophomore tied a career high and set a season best with 12 strikeouts, allowing two runs (one earned), six hits and three walks while giving up just her first home run of the season. Macon holds a team-low 0.92 earned run average to go along with a 10-1 record and three saves. She has 95 strikeouts in 76 innings and has held opponents to a .196 batting average. In her last game prior to her ineligibility, Macon struck out 11 in a complete-game victory at Loyola Marymount on March 28, giving up one earned run. The run allowed against LMU snapped a 23-inning scoreless streak that spanned from March 6-28. The sophomore has given up one earned run or fewer in all but two of her 19 appearances this season. Macon has four shutouts, blanking Cal Poly (Feb. 19), UTEP (March 6), CSU Bakersfield (March 21) and UNLV (March 27). The sophomore has six games with at least seven strikeouts this season. She fanned nine against UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 17) and Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 24), eight against Colorado State (Feb. 26) and seven against UNLV. Macon has also recorded saves against Fresno State (March 5) and Cal Poly (March 23). DK-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K Junior Donna Kerr picked up her 18th victory of the season on Friday against Saint Mary’s, striking out nine and allowing four runs, four hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings. Kerr leads the Bruins with an 18-7 record and is also first on the team in appearances (31), games started (29), complete games (10), shutouts (6), innings (145.1) and strikeouts (177), adding a 2.41 earned run average while holding opponents to a team-best .188 batting average. Kerr has struck out at least nine in two of her last three starts. She fanned 10 on May 14 at Arizona for her fourth double-figure strikeout game of the season. Kerr started 15 of the Bruins’ 21 games during Pac-10 play, earning wins against Washington (April 1), Oregon State (April 16 and 18), Stanford (April 23) and Oregon (May 2). She blanked the Huskies in the conference opener, striking out eight in a four-hitter. Kerr also threw three scoreless frames in the win over OSU, fanned eight in a one-hit, five-inning complete game at Stanford and earned her 50th career victory against Oregon. The shutout at Washington marked part of a stretch in which the junior didn’t allow an earned run in 30 straight innings from March 23 to April 2. Kerr has been a part of 10 of the Bruins’ 15 shutouts, including solo blankings against Cal State Northridge (Feb. 19), North Carolina (March 10), CSU Bakersfield (March 21) and Loyola Marymount (March 28). Kerr has struck out at least eight batters in 13 of her 29 starts, including a season-best 11 against Florida Atlantic (Feb. 13) and Northridge. She also fanned 10 at Loyola Marymount, nine against Georgia (Feb. 14), Portland State (Feb. 21) and CSU Bakersfield and eight apiece against Fresno State (March 5), North Carolina and Oregon State (April 18). Kerr received the third Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week award of her career on Feb. 23 after tossing 13 scoreless innings with 23 strikeouts in wins over UCSB (Feb. 17), Cal State Northridge and Portland State. She allowed only one hit in all three of those appearances. SWINGING A HOT STICK Senior Kaila Shull belted her fifth home run of the season, a two-run homer, on Friday against Saint Mary’s. Junior Monica Harrison hit a three-run homer, while senior Julie Burney and sophomore Samantha Camuso also left the yard. The Bruins improve to 43-11 on the season and will host Louisiana-Lafayette next weekend in the Super Regional round. Game times and dates will be released by the NCAA later Sunday night or Monday morning. The Bulldogs’ season concludes at 41-21. Sophomore Aleah Macon posted her second victory of the weekend to move to 10-1 on the year, tying a career high with 12 strikeouts and allowing two runs (one earned), six hits and three walks in seven innings. Macon retired the side in order in the second and fanned a pair in the third, fourth and seventh innings, as well as three in the fifth. The Bruins had five hits as a team, with three of them going over the fence. Junior GiOnna DiSalvatore and freshman B.B. Bates also had singles, as DiSalvatore walked three times. Fresno State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Haley Gilleland reached on a leadoff error, and one out later, Michelle Moses homered to left to stake the Bulldogs to an early advantage. It was all Bruins after that though, as Camuso, whose error led to the Bulldogs’ first run, atoned with a game-tying homer. Sophomore Dani Yudin walked, and one out later, Camuso hit her 11th homer of the season and third of the weekend to right-center to tie the game at two. The Bruins busted it open with four in the sixth, taking advantage of a Fresno State error. With one out, Camuso walked and was pinch-run for by freshman Devon Lindvall. One out later, Bates reached on a fielding error by second baseman Rebecca Walker to put two on base. DiSalvatore then blooped a single into left field to plate Lindvall to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead. Monica Harrison followed with her third home run of the season to left to increase the margin to 6-2. Macon got out of a big jam in the bottom of the sixth. The Bulldogs had the bases loaded with nobody out following a single by Courtney Moore, a walk to Caitlin Stiglich and a single from Alexis Lujan. Macon then induced Nicole Angene into a comebacker to get a force out at home, and followed that up by striking out Walker and popping up Brooke Phipps to end the threat. The Bruins added an insurance run in the seventh when Burney hit her 16th homer of the year to center to make it 7-2. Following a leadoff single by Gilleland in the bottom of the seventh, Macon fanned Andrea Ortega and Moses, with the game ending when Moore was retired on a nice catch by Camuso that sent her crashing into the wall. 2010 UCLA Softball #5 UCLA at Fresno State May 23, 2010 at Los Angeles, Calif. Bates to give the fifth-seeded Bruins a 4-3 win over San Diego State on Saturday at Easton Stadium. The Bruins improve to 42-11 on the season and will play Fresno State in the Regional Championship game on Sunday at 12 p.m. The Bulldogs must beat UCLA twice. The Aztecs fall to 34-15. Langenfeld had a perfect game at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks. The Bruins had six hits as a team. Sophomore Aleah Macon moved to 9-1 on the year, striking out five in seven innings and allowing three runs (two earned), eight hits and two walks. The Aztecs got on the board with an unearned run in the top of the second. Eva Sahatdjian led off with a single to right and was pinch-run for Roshana Lavery, who advanced to second when Monica Alnes reached on a UCLA error following a bunt attempt. Patrice Jackson then singled to center to load the bases for San Diego State. One out later, Jen Wisneski grounded a ball up the middle. Junior GiOnna DiSalvatore dove to her right and flipped to junior Monica Harrison at second for the force on Jackson, but Lavery came home to score the game’s first run. After stranding two in both the first and second innings, the Bruins tied it up on one swing in the third. With one out, Langenfeld crushed a 1-1 pitch over the trees beyond the right-field fence for her 15th homer of the season. In the top of the fifth, Macon got out of a jam with some solid defense. Wisneski singled to left to open the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice by Felicia Reifschneider. Jessica Camello then reached on an infield single to short to put a pair on base, but Macon snagged a line-drive comebacker off the bat of Brittany Knudsen and threw to first to double off Camello to end the inning. Langenfeld struck again in the fifth with two outs, as she lasered a 1-2 pitch that just cleared the right-field wall for her 16th bomb of the year to make it 2-1. In the sixth, sophomore Samantha Camuso extended the Bruins’ lead to 3-1, belting her 10th homer of the season to center on a 1-1 pitch with two outs. The Aztecs rallied to tie the game with two in the top of the seventh. With one out, Ashley Rose was hit by a pitch and was pinch-run for by Traci Wolf. One out later, Kristin May walked and was pinch-run for by Lindsey Marquez. San Diego State then tied the game, as Camello doubled to left to plate both pinch-runners to make it 3-all. In the bottom of the seventh, UCLA got an infield single to short by Bates, who moved to second on a sacrifice by DiSalvatore. Monica Harrison followed with a walk and Langenfeld was walked intentionally to load the bases. The Bruins then walked off with the victory, as Andrea Harrison chopped a single off the tip of the first baseman’s glove to score Bates and give UCLA the win. 2010 UCLA Softball San Diego State at #5 UCLA May 22, 2010 at Los Angeles, Calif. Inouye-Perez owns a 133-38 career record (.778 winning percentage) and led the Bruins to a Pacific-10 Conference Championship in 2009, as UCLA went 45-11 overall and 16-5 in league play. She was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year and earned her 100th career victory on Feb. 22 against Maryland. In 2008, the Bruins went 51-9 and advanced to the Women’s College World Series, finishing second in the Pac-10 with a 17-4 record. In her first season at the helm of UCLA in 2007, Inouye-Perez posted a 37-18 overall record and a 12-9 Pac-10 mark (t-3rd). Over Inouye-Perez’s three seasons, the Bruins have ELLY NOUYE EREZ earned nine All-American awards, 15 All-Region honors TH EAR AS EAD OACH and 25 All-Pac-10 accolades. TH EAR AT Inouye-Perez, just the third head coach in UCLA softball history, officially took over the reins from Sue Enquist on Jan. 1, 2007. Enquist announced her retirement as head ECORD coach on Sept. 26, 2006. No stranger to the Bruin dugout, Inouye-Perez starts her 22nd-straight season in Westwood in 2010. She is a link to four decades of Bruin softball success, joining the UCLA softball program as a freshman in 1989. Inouye-Perez’s apprenticeship is highlighted by six NCAA Championships and eight Pac-10 titles in her previous 21 years, spending five campaigns as a player and 13 as an assistant coach. Over Inouye-Perez’s 13 seasons (1994-2006) as an assistant coach, UCLA was 617-150-1 (.804) and appeared in the NCAA title game seven times, winning the NCAA Championship in the 1999, 2003 and 2004 seasons. The Bruins also won three Pac-10 titles during that span (1999, 2002, 2006) and in 2004 were named the National Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Inouye-Perez’s primary responsibility as an assistant coach was guiding the Bruin pitchers and catchers, a list which includes many of the most honored and recognizable names in collegiate softball. Behind the dish, where Inouye-Perez also starred as a three-time All-Pac-10 honoree during her playing days at UCLA, she helped mold and influence arguably the best catcher in the history of USA Softball in Stacey Nuveman. Under Inouye-Perez’s tutelage, Nuveman became a three-time K I -P 4 Y H C 17 Y UCLA UCLA, 1993 R : 176-49 Pac-10 Player of the Year, four-time, first-team All-American and the NCAA’s all-time single season and career home run leader. Since the Pac-10 Conference began issuing a Pitcher of the Year Award, UCLA has been honored with two winners, Courtney Dale in 1999 and Keira Goerl in 2003. Among the other pitching highlights accomplished by the Bruins over her 13 years as an assistant included at least one All-American award earned by a UCLA pitcher in 12 of those campaigns, including DeeDee Weiman, four-time Olympian Tanya Harding and two-time Olympian Amanda Freed. In addition, nearly every UCLA pitching record has been set during the time Inouye-Perez has overseen the Bruin battery and the top four pitchers on UCLA’s career wins list, Goerl, Selden, Freed and B’Ann Burns, were coached by her. Inouye-Perez was an exceptionally strong fielder behind the dish for the Bruins. She made her mark immediately as a collegiate player, earning first-team All-Pac-10 as a true freshman and second-team as a sophomore, leading the Bruins to the 1989 and 1990 NCAA Championships before receiving a medical redshirt in 1991 due to shoulder surgery. She came back strong in 1992, picking up second-team All-Pac-10 honors as the Bruins once again won the national championship and finished with a 54-2 record, the fewest losses in a season in program history. Inouye-Perez also was named to the 1992 All-Women’s College World Series Team, going 5-for-12 (.417) with four RBI during WCWS play. She wrapped up her career as a fifth-year senior in 1993 with an NCAA runner-up finish. Impressively, Inouye-Perez did not commit a single fielding error during her final two seasons. Among the UCLA pitchers during her five seasons as a player were Lisa Longaker and Lisa Fernandez, both of whom were named to the NCAA’s 25th Anniversary All-WCWS Team. During her UCLA career, Inouye-Perez played in 22 Women’s College World Series games, a mark that is tied for third-best in UCLA history behind only Lisa Fernandez and Kristy Howard (23). Inouye-Perez graduated from UCLA in 1993 with a B.A. in psychology. Prior to college, Inouye-Perez was one of the top players during her ASA days, winning four national championships, with the Panthers (1984, `85 and `89) and the Raiders (1986). She also competed on an international level in Japan in 1985 and in Peru in 1987 (Pan American Tournament) and followed her collegiate career with time playing on the NPF Pro Tour. Inouye-Perez and her husband, Gerardo Perez, currently reside in Cerritos. Along with Kelly’s exploits on the diamond, Gerardo competed as a catcher/DH for Cerritos College from 1988-90 and helped lead the Falcons to the 1989 Junior College National Championship. After a stellar career at Cerritos, he went on to compete at Loyola Marymount, earning first-team All-West Coast Conference honors his junior and senior seasons. He currently teaches health and coaches baseball at Gahr High School in Cerritos. The couple has two children, Michael (10) and Kylie (5).
