against Cal Poly. UCLA had recorded four-consecutive, mercy-rule
wins on several occasions prior to setting the new mark.
ON DECK
The winner of the Los Angeles Super Regional advances to
the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City. UCLA or
Louisiana-Lafayette will play the winner of the Gainesville Super
Regional between #4 Florida and #13 Arizona State on Thursday,
June 3 at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
NEWS AND NOTES
The Bruins hit 11 home runs in their three-game Regional sweep
last weekend to give them 88 round-trippers on the year. UCLA has
hit a home run in 14 of its last 15 contests. The 88 home runs
are tied for the second-best, single-season total in UCLA history.
The 2003 title-winning team hit 88 homers, with the school record
being 95 by the NCAA Champion 1999 squad ... the Bruins are
on pace to break the team single-season records for slugging and
on base percentages. UCLA is slugging at .578, better than the
previous best of .558 in 1999, and have an on base percentage
of .426, bettering the .418 mark in 2002. The Bruins are also on
pace to break the single-season walks record. UCLA currently has
217 free passes and the record is 223 (2002) ... senior Megan
Langenfeld’s slugging (1.037) and on base percentages (.650)
currently stand as the second-best totals in UCLA history for a
single season. Stacey Nuveman holds the benchmark with a 1.045
slugging and a .665 on base percentage ... the Bruins are hitting
.333 with runners in scoring position. Leading the way is junior
GiOnna DiSalvatore, who is 27-for-55 (.491) with runners in scoring
position. Langenfeld is batting .457 (21-for-46) with RISP ... UCLA
has 13 comeback victories this season, including two last weekend
against San Diego State and Fresno State ... the Bruins are 16-1
when scoring in the first inning ... UCLA is 31-0 when scoring at least
six runs, but just 12-11 when scoring five or fewer ... the Bruins are
28-0 when leading after five innings and 22-0 when winning after
six ... junior Katie Schroeder, who played in only seven games this
season, will not return this year due to a left leg injury. Schroeder
hit .364 with a homer and three RBI through the first two weekends
of the season. She will apply for a medical redshirt, and if granted,
will be a fourth-year junior in 2011.
BRUINS IN THE POLLS
UCLA jumped up two spots to fourth in the final regular-season
ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings, earning 15 more points. There
was no new USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll this week, in which the
Bruins were ranked fifth in the final regular-season poll.
BRUINS ON THE WEB
Gametracker will be available for all UCLA softball games this
season at UCLABruins.com. In addition, all Regional and Super
Regional contests will be broadcast on the UCLA website.
BRUINS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Bruins enter the postseason in the Top 30 nationally in seven
statistical categories, including sixth in home runs per game (1.63)
and slugging (.579). UCLA is also seventh in batting average (.328),
11th in runs per game (6.57), 16th in doubles per game (1.54),
17th in earned run average (1.93) and 30th in fielding percentage
(.971). Individually, senior Megan Langenfeld is in the Top 20
nationally in six categories, ranking second in slugging (1.037) and
on base percentage (.650), fourth in batting average (.500), eighth
in home runs per game (0.37), 10th in RBI per game (1.14) and
13th in walks per game (0.88). In the circle, junior Donna Kerr is
33rd in fewest hits allowed per seven innings (4.82) and 39th in
strikeouts per seven innings (8.5), while sophomore Aleah Macon
is 29th with three saves. Offensively, junior Monica Harrison is
16th in sacrifice hits per game (0.29), senior Julie Burney is 33rd
in home runs per game (0.30) and junior GiOnna DiSalvatore is
47th in doubles per game (0.30).
MERCY MERCY ME
The Bruins have posted 18 run-rule wins this year and are one shy
of the school record for a single season. The 2001 UCLA squad
won 19 games by mercy rule. The 2010 Bruins set a school record
on Feb. 20 when they posted their fifth-straight, mercy-rule victory
against UC Davis (8-0 in six innings). The streak began on Feb.
17 when UCLA swept both ends of a doubleheader at UC Santa
Barbara by scores of 14-0 in five innings and 11-1 in six. On
Feb. 19, the Bruins continued the streak with a 9-0, five-inning
win against Cal State Northridge and an 8-0, five-inning triumph
TWO-OUT SUCCESS
Of the 22 runs scored by the Bruins last weekend, 13 of them
came home with two outs. UCLA has scored 160 of its 355 runs
this season with two outs for a 45.1 percentage. The Bruins have
144 two-out RBI, with an additional 16 runs coming across on
errors, wild pitches or passed balls with two down. Senior Megan
Langenfeld leads the team with 27 two-out RBI, followed by junior
GiOnna DiSalvatore with 24, senior Julie Burney and sophomore
Samantha Camuso with 16 each and sophomore Andrea Harrison
with 15.
LANGENFELD A TOP THREE FINALIST FOR USA SB POY AWARD
Senior Megan Langenfeld has been named a top three finalist
for the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award,

announced on June 1 at the Women’s College World Series
Opening Ceremonies in Oklahoma City.
Langenfeld is the third Bruin to be named a top three finalist
since the inception of the award in 2002. Stacey Nuveman won
the inaugural award and Natasha Watley was a top three finalist

sophomore Andrea Harrison were each named to the NFCA AllWest Region Team on May 20. DiSalvatore (second base) and
Langenfeld (utility/pitcher) both earned first-team honors, while
Harrison (outfield) was named to the second team.
The award for Langenfeld is the fourth of her career, making her
the eighth Bruin to receive four All-Region awards, joining Caitlin
Benyi, Tracy Compton, Debbie Doom, Lisa Fernandez, Stacey
Nuveman, Anjelica Selden and Natasha Watley. Langenfeld was
named first team in 2008 and second team in 2007. There was no
first or second-team designation in 2009.
DiSalvatore’s award is her third in a row after earning first-team
honors in 2008. It is Harrison’s first All-Region accolade.
The Bruins have earned 14 All-Region honors over the last three
seasons.
LANGENFELD NAMED PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Senior Megan Langenfeld was named Pacific-10 Conference
Player of the Year on May 19, becoming the 12th Bruin to earn POY
honors. In addition, 10 Bruins were honored on the All-Pac-10 and
All-Freshman Teams.
Langenfeld joins three-time winners Lisa Longaker (‘87, ‘88, ‘90),
Lisa Fernandez (‘91-’93) and Stacey Nuveman (‘99, ‘01, ‘02), as
well as Natasha Watley (‘03) and Andrea Duran (‘06), as Pac-10
Player of the Year honorees. It is the fourth All-Pac-10 honor and
second first-team accolade for Langenfeld, who was also named
first team a year ago.
Joining Langenfeld on the All-Pac-10 First Team were junior GiOnna
DiSalvatore and sophomore Andrea Harrison. DiSalvatore has
been named All-Pac-10 three times, but this is her initial first-team
award. Harrison was named honorable mention a year ago.
Senior Julie Burney was named to the All-Pac-10 Second Team,
while senior Kaila Shull, juniors Monica Harrison and Donna
Kerr and sophomore Dani Yudin were all named to the All-Pac-10
Honorable Mention Team. The award is the third of Shull’s career,
the second for Burney, Harrison and Kerr and the first for Yudin.
B.B. Bates was recognized on the All-Freshman Team, while
Charlotte Dolan was named to the All-Freshman Honorable
Mention Team.
The three first-team honors for the Bruins were tied for the
most in the conference along with Arizona and Washington. The
eight all-conference nods were tied for the second most behind
Washington.
BRUINS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
UCLA is making its 26th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and
holds a record of 167-40 (.807 winning percentage). The Bruins
improved to 75-8 (.904) all-time in the Regional round after going
undefeated for the 19th time in 26 Regionals. Since the NCAA
field expanded to the Super Regional round in 2005, the Bruins
are 7-3 (.700), advancing to the Women’s College World Series in
‘05 by defeating Georgia in three games, in ‘06 by beating South
Florida in two contests and in ‘08 by sweeping Georgia. UCLA
lost its first Super Regional last year against Missouri in three
games. The Bruins have now hosted Super Regionals five of the
last six seasons. UCLA is 54-6 (.900) during postseason games in
Westwood (47-3 in Regionals, 7-3 in Super Regionals).
BRUIN PLAYERS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
In 11 postseason games, sophomore Samantha Camuso has hit
five home runs after leaving the yard three times last weekend. She
is hitting .400 (12-for-30) with 10 runs batted in during the NCAA
Tournament. Senior Megan Langenfeld is batting .447 (21-for-47)
in the playoffs with three homers and 14 RBI, while freshman
B.B. Bates went 3-for-8 (.375) during her first NCAA Tournament
weekend. Senior Julie Burney and sophomore Dani Yudin each
have three home runs in the postseason. In the circle, Langenfeld
is 4-3 with a 1.94 earned run average and 43 strikeouts in 54
innings, while junior Donna Kerr is 2-0 with 18 strikeouts in 13
2/3 innings.
SCOUTING THE RAGIN’ CAJUNS
Louisiana-Lafayette swept the Baton Rouge Regional last weekend,
knocking off Texas A&M (5-0) and LSU (1-0) before beating A&M
in the Regional Championship game 6-1. The Ragin’ Cajuns have
won seven in a row after going 4-0 at the Sun Belt Conference
Tournament to win the NCAA automatic berth. Louisiana-Lafayette
also won the regular-season SBC title with a 19-5 mark. The Bruins
and the Ragin’ Cajuns have six common opponents, with UCLA
going 6-3 and ULL going 5-4. The Bruins went 2-0 against Fresno
State, 1-0 against Cal State Fullerton, Florida Atlantic and Texas, 12 against Washington and 0-1 against Michigan. The Ragin’ Cajuns
went 4-0 against conference rival FAU and 1-0 against Fresno,
losing to Fullerton, Michigan, Texas and Washington. ULL hit .274
in its Regional last weekend with two homers and three stolen

4-for-9 (.444), hitting both of ULL’s homers and driving in six runs.
Senior Vallie Gaspard and freshman Nerissa Myers both went 4for-10 (.400). Senior Brittany Cuevas went 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA and
11 strikeouts in 14 innings, while junior Donna Bourgeois tossed
a five-hit shutout against LSU, striking out five. Bourgeois and
Cuevas have split the duties in the circle this season. Bourgeois
is 23-9 with a 1.78 earned run average and 184 strikeouts in 205
innings, while Cuevas is 22-7 with a 2.38 ERA and 200 strikeouts
in 197 innings. As a team, Louisiana-Lafayette is batting .302 on
the season with 51 homers and 98 stolen bases, averaging 5.5
runs per game. Gaspard is hitting a team-best .420 with 18 RBI
and 17 stolen bases. Four others are hitting above .300. Bridges
is batting .317 with a team-high 17 homers, sophomore Erikka
Murphy is hitting .316 with a team-best 32 stolen bases and
sophomore Christi Orgeron is batting .316 with 15 homers and a
team-leading 56 runs batted in.
THE MATCHUP: BRUINS V. RAGIN’ CAJUNS
The Bruins and the Ragin’ Cajuns have met six previous times, all
in the NCAA Tournament, with UCLA holding a 5-1 advantage. The
Bruins have won the last three meetings. The last matchup came
in Oklahoma City on May 24, 2003, with the Bruins winning 5-1. In
1997, UCLA was sent to Lafayette for Regionals. The Bruins lost the
first game to ULL 4-1 to fall to the loser’s bracket, but came back
to win their next three of the weekend, beating the Ragin’ Cajuns
twice on the final day by scores of 9-0 in five innings and 3-0. The
first two meetings came at the WCWS in 1993 (1-0) and 1996 (32), with the Bruins winning both times.

DANG LANG ... THE HITTER
After sitting last Friday to rest a left hamstring injury, senior Megan
Langenfeld came back in fine fashion on Saturday against San
Diego State, going 2-for-2 with a pair of solo homers and two walks.
After walking in the first, Langenfeld launched a mammoth home
run over the trees in right field to tie the game at one in the third
inning. Two innings later, the senior hit a line drive to right that just
cleared the wall to give UCLA the lead at 2-1. She would be walked
intentionally in her final at-bat. Langenfeld enters Super Regional
play leading the team in average (.500), runs batted in (49), slugging
(1.037), on base percentage (.650), walks (38) and hit by pitches
(10). The senior is also tied for first with 16 home runs, second with
40 runs scored and fourth with 10 doubles. Langenfeld is third
on the team with 18 multiple-hit games, posting seven of them
during Pac-10 play. She hit a team-best .444 in conference with a
team-high 21 walks, notching two-hit games against Oregon State
(April 18), Stanford (April 23 and 25), Oregon (April 30 and May 2),
California (May 7) and Arizona (May 13). On April 30 against the
Ducks, Langenfeld drove in a career-high five on a three-run double
and a two-run single. The weekend prior to that, the senior was
named Pac-10 and USA Softball National Player of the Week after
posting four homers, eight RBI and six runs scored in a three-game
sweep of Stanford. Langenfeld tied a career high with two homers
and drove in four in both the first and third contests against the
Cardinal. Four of Langenfeld’s 18 multi-hit games have been threehit affairs against Cal Poly (Feb. 19 and March 23), Portland State
(Feb. 21) and Northwestern (Feb. 27). She drove in multiple runs
in all of the games and homered in each contest except against
Northwestern, posting four RBI in the February affair with Cal Poly
and three RBI in the other three matchups. Langenfeld had five

straight, multiple-hit games from Feb. 19-26. She has 15 multiRBI games, which leads the team. Langenfeld has hitting streaks
of eight (Feb. 19-27) and six (Feb. 13-17) games this season and
has reached base in all but two games via either a hit, walk or hit
by pitch. The senior has scored multiple runs in a game 12 times,
including three apiece in both ends of a doubleheader at UCSB
and at Stanford on April 23. She has also been walked twice in a
game 10 times and at least once in 27 of her 42 contests.
DANG LANG ... THE PITCHER
Langenfeld did not pitch last weekend, but did earn both Bruin
victories in the last series of the regular season at Arizona. She
struck out a season-high eight on May 13 and pitched 5 2/3 innings
of relief for the win on May 15. Making her first start since Feb.
27, the senior allowed five runs, 10 hits and three walks in eight
frames in the May 13 extra-inning victory. Two days later, she came
in the game in relief and struck out three, giving up two runs, five
hits and two walks. Langenfeld is 10-1 with three saves on the year
with a 1.29 earned run average and 56 strikeouts in 87 innings.
She was a perfect 6-0 in Pac-10 play with two saves, posting a 1.43
ERA and 24 strikeouts in 44 innings. The senior pitched 17 1/3
consecutive scoreless innings to open conference action from April
16 to May 7, earning wins against Stanford (April 25), Oregon (April
30) and California (May 7 and 8), to go along with saves versus
Stanford (April 24) and Oregon (May 2). Langenfeld pitched at least
three innings of scoreless relief in four of those games, tossing
three hitless innings on April 24 at Stanford, five shutout frames
the next day against the Cardinal, 4 1/3 scoreless innings on April
30 versus Oregon and 5 2/3 shutout innings on May 8 against
Cal. Her four victories during non-conference play came against
Tennessee (Feb. 13), UC Davis (Feb. 20), Northwestern (Feb. 27)
and Long Beach State (March 26). She pitched five shutout innings
and struck out four against the Lady Vols and fanned a half dozen
in six shutout frames against Davis. The senior also struck out six
against Northwestern and fanned seven against Ohio State on Feb.
28. Langenfeld’s most impressive performance this season may
have come in back-to-back games on Feb. 14. She threw a careerhigh 13 innings in a hard-luck, 4-2 loss to Michigan. She allowed
only one earned run and six hits while striking out six in a 182-pitch
effort. Langenfeld threw 23 more pitches later in the day when she
tossed a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts against Georgia for her
first save of the season.

play, hitting .425 with a team-best 21 RBI and seven doubles. She
left the yard in three straight games against Oregon (May 1 and
2) and Cal (May 7), also homering at OSU on April 17. The junior
is tied for the team lead with 20 multiple-hit games, with 12 of
them coming during Pac-10. She is also tied for second with 13
multiple-RBI contests, producing eight in conference. DiSalvatore
had a career-high, 10-game hitting streak from April 16 to May 7,
batting .475 (19-for-40) with four homers, 17 RBI and 12 runs
scored. She has two other hitting streaks of at least seven games
this season, reaching safely in seven in a row from March 23-28
(.455 BA) and nine straight from Feb. 14-24 (.586 BA). In the midst
of her February streak, she put her name alongside Olympian
Natasha Watley when she had nine consecutive hits. After posting
a hit in her last at-bat against Georgia on Feb. 14, DiSalvatore
went 7-for-7 in a doubleheader at UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 17.
In game one, she went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and followed
that up with a 4-for-4 effort in the nightcap with a career-high six
runs batted in on a two-run double, an RBI double and a three-run
homer. DiSalvatore ran her consecutive hits streak to nine with a

first-inning RBI single against Cal State Northridge (Feb. 20), which
tied her with Watley. She fell just one short of the school record of
10 consecutive hits held by Lisa Fernandez and Stacey Nuveman.
For her efforts, DiSalvatore was named Pac-10 Player of the Week
on Feb. 23, hitting .682 with 12 runs batted in and two homers in
seven games. She has scored multiple runs in a game nine times,
including three runs on five occasions.
runs in the first game of a doubleheader at UCSB. She has added
three-RBI contests against Cal State Northridge and Cal Poly (Feb.
19) and two-RBI affairs versus Florida Atlantic, Texas and UTEP.
Camuso has homered in all of her multi-RBI games with the
exception of the UTEP and Oregon State contests. She has also
belted solo jacks against Colorado State and Washington (April 2).
The sophomore has scored twice in a game five times.
DR. DREA
One day after recording her 20th multiple-hit game of the season
on Friday, sophomore Andrea Harrison hit a walk-off, bases-loaded
single on Saturday to give the Bruins a 4-3 victory over San Diego
State. Harrison hit a high chopper off the glove of the Aztec first
baseman to score freshman B.B. Bates and send UCLA into the
Regional Championship game. The sophomore is third on the team
with a .351 batting average, 13 home runs and a .661 slugging
percentage. She is also second with 14 doubles and fourth with 42
runs batted in. Harrison is tied for the team lead in multi-hit games
after producing a pair of singles against Saint Mary’s on Friday,
and is also fourth with 12 multiple-RBI contests. The sophomore
earned her first career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor on May
3 after going 6-for-11 (.545) with four home runs and eight runs
batted in a three-game sweep of Oregon. Harrison tied career
highs with two homers and four RBI on May 1 and 2. She scored
three times and equaled a personal best with three hits on May
1 and followed that up with a pair of two-run homers the next
afternoon. Five of Harrison’s multi-RBI games came during Pac10 play, as she drove in a pair in three straight contests against
Oregon State (April 18) and Stanford (April 23 and 24). Eight of
her 19 multi-hit contests came in conference. She had three hits
at Stanford (April 23) and two versus Arizona State (April 9), OSU
(April 16 and 18), Cal (May 7) and Arizona (May 13), homering
against ASU (April 9) and Stanford (April 24). The sophomore has
produced hitting streaks of 11 and 10 games this season. She hit
.459 (17-for-37) during her career-high, 11-game streak, which ran
from March 21 to April 10, with six home runs, 14 runs batted in,
10 runs scored and six multiple-hit games. Harrison had four home
runs in a three-game span on March 28 and April 9. She went 2for-4 with two RBI and a homer in the first game of a doubleheader
at Loyola Marymount (March 28) and posted a pair of solo bombs,
her first career, two-homer contest, in the nightcap. Harrison plated
three runs in the second game of a doubleheader against UNLV on
March 27 and has added nine more contests with two RBI. The
sophomore drove in runs in seven straight games from March 26
to April 10 (12 total). Harrison hit safely in 10 straight from Feb.
19-27, batting .417 (15-for-36) with six runs batted in and a pair
of home runs. She has scored multiple runs in a game nine times
this season.
HOT BAT FOR THE HOT CORNER
Senior Julie Burney had hits in all three contests last weekend
and brings an eight-game hitting streak into Super Regional play.
Burney hit her 16th homer of the season on Sunday against
Fresno State and added singles on Friday and Saturday, scoring
three times against Saint Mary’s. She also drew two walks on the
weekend. Burney is batting .314, tying for the team lead in homers
and ranking third with 44 runs batted in. She is also second with a
.667 slugging percentage and tied for third with 23 walks. Burney
is batting .360 (9-for-25) during her current hitting streak that is
one shy of her career high. The senior has hit at least one home
run in seven straight weekends. Burney homered against Arizona
State (April 9), Oregon State twice (April 16 and 17), Stanford (April
24), Oregon (May 1), California (May 9) and Arizona (May 13). Her
home run against Arizona was a go-ahead shot in the top of the
eighth inning of an eventual 6-5 victory. Burney is second on the
team with 13 multiple-RBI games. Six of those contests came
during her career-high, nine-game hitting streak (Feb. 14-24) in
which she batted .538 (14-for-26) with five homers and 20 runs
batted in. Burney drove in a run in each of the last eight games of
her hitting streak. She had four RBI against Cal State Northridge
(Feb. 20) and Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 24), recording her first
career, two-homer contest against the Matadors. The senior has
added three-RBI games against UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 17, Game
1), UC Davis (Feb. 20) and UNLV (March 27) and has driven in a
pair against Florida Atlantic (Feb. 13), UCSB (Feb. 17, Game 2),
Northridge (Feb. 19), CSU Bakersfield (March 21) and Loyola
Marymount (March 28). Burney has nine multiple-hit games, going
3-for-3 against UCSB and Fullerton and posting two-hit contests
against Northridge, Baylor (Feb. 27), UNLV, LMU, Stanford (April 24)
and Oregon (May 1). Burney has scored multiple runs five times,
including three at Oregon State on April 16.
SLAMMIN’ SAMMY
There is something about the NCAA Tournament that agrees with
redshirt sophomore Samantha Camuso. After hitting two homers
in the 2008 postseason as a freshman, Camuso left the yard
in all three games last weekend. She reached base in all four
plate appearances on Friday against Saint Mary’s, going 2-for-2
and tying a season high with four RBI on a three-run homer and
an RBI double. She also scored two runs and was hit by a pitch.
Camuso hit a solo home run on Saturday against San Diego State
and belted a two-run bomb on Sunday against Fresno State. The
redshirt sophomore is hitting .307, ranking fourth on the team
with 11 home runs and fifth with 39 runs batted in and 21 walks.
Camuso had been in a 1-for-22 slump heading into the postseason,
but went 4-for-8 (.500) with three homers and seven RBI during the
Regional round. She produced her 11th multiple-hit game against
Saint Mary’s and her first since a 2-for-3 effort at Stanford on April
25. Camuso also homered in the first game of the Stanford series
on April 23. During non-conference play, Camuso posted three hits
in the first game of a doubleheader at CSU Bakersfield on March
21 and also has two-hit contests against Florida Atlantic (Feb.
13), UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 17), Cal State Northridge (Feb. 19),
Colorado State (Feb. 26), Texas (Feb. 26), Fresno State (March 5),
UTEP (March 6) and Long Beach State (March 26). The redshirt
sophomore has nine multiple-RBI games this season, driving in
a pair on April 18 at Oregon State. Camuso knocked home four
YUDIN GOING YARD
Sophomore Dani Yudin had a couple of firsts on Friday against
Saint Mary’s, posting her first career two-homer and three-hit game
in the Regional opener. Yudin had a two-run shot and a solo bomb
to go along with a single. Her three RBI also tied a career high.
The sophomore is batting .324 on the year with eight homers and
23 runs batted in. She is also fourth with 22 walks and third in on
base percentage (.442). Yudin has a home run in each of the last
three weekends. She went yard on May 7 against California, going
2-for-4 against the Golden Bears, and also hit a home run and

third save of the season. Macon started the final two games of the
weekend, fanning five and giving up three runs (two earned), eight
hits and two walks on Saturday against San Diego State. On Sunday
against Fresno State, the sophomore tied a career high and set a
season best with 12 strikeouts, allowing two runs (one earned), six
hits and three walks while giving up just her first home run of the
season. Macon holds a team-low 0.92 earned run average to go
along with a 10-1 record and three saves. She has 95 strikeouts in 76
innings and has held opponents to a .196 batting average. In her last
game prior to her ineligibility, Macon struck out 11 in a complete-game
victory at Loyola Marymount on March 28, giving up one earned run.
The run allowed against LMU snapped a 23-inning scoreless streak
that spanned from March 6-28. The sophomore has given up one
earned run or fewer in all but two of her 19 appearances this season.
Macon has four shutouts, blanking Cal Poly (Feb. 19), UTEP (March
6), CSU Bakersfield (March 21) and UNLV (March 27). The sophomore
has six games with at least seven strikeouts this season. She fanned
nine against UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 17) and Cal State Fullerton (Feb.
24), eight against Colorado State (Feb. 26) and seven against UNLV.
Macon has also recorded saves against Fresno State (March 5) and
Cal Poly (March 23).
DK-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K
Junior Donna Kerr picked up her 18th victory of the season on Friday
against Saint Mary’s, striking out nine and allowing four runs, four
hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings. Kerr leads the Bruins with an
18-7 record and is also first on the team in appearances (31), games
started (29), complete games (10), shutouts (6), innings (145.1) and
strikeouts (177), adding a 2.41 earned run average while holding
opponents to a team-best .188 batting average. Kerr has struck out
at least nine in two of her last three starts. She fanned 10 on May 14
at Arizona for her fourth double-figure strikeout game of the season.
Kerr started 15 of the Bruins’ 21 games during Pac-10 play, earning
wins against Washington (April 1), Oregon State (April 16 and 18),
Stanford (April 23) and Oregon (May 2). She blanked the Huskies in
the conference opener, striking out eight in a four-hitter. Kerr also
threw three scoreless frames in the win over OSU, fanned eight in a
one-hit, five-inning complete game at Stanford and earned her 50th
career victory against Oregon. The shutout at Washington marked
part of a stretch in which the junior didn’t allow an earned run in 30
straight innings from March 23 to April 2. Kerr has been a part of 10
of the Bruins’ 15 shutouts, including solo blankings against Cal State
Northridge (Feb. 19), North Carolina (March 10), CSU Bakersfield
(March 21) and Loyola Marymount (March 28). Kerr has struck out at
least eight batters in 13 of her 29 starts, including a season-best 11
against Florida Atlantic (Feb. 13) and Northridge. She also fanned 10
at Loyola Marymount, nine against Georgia (Feb. 14), Portland State
(Feb. 21) and CSU Bakersfield and eight apiece against Fresno State
(March 5), North Carolina and Oregon State (April 18). Kerr received
the third Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week award of her career on Feb. 23
after tossing 13 scoreless innings with 23 strikeouts in wins over
UCSB (Feb. 17), Cal State Northridge and Portland State. She allowed
only one hit in all three of those appearances.
SWINGING A HOT STICK
Senior Kaila Shull belted her fifth home run of the season, a two-run
homer, on Friday against Saint Mary’s. She also walked on Friday and
drew a free pass on Sunday against Fresno State. Shull is batting .250
with five homers and 14 runs batted in. She has scored 24 runs, drawn
17 walks and is second on the team with seven sacrifice hits. Shull
closed out the regular season with a pair of two-hit games at Arizona
on May 13 and 15. She had an RBI single in the May 13 game and had
a double and a single in the finale. The senior hit .333 during Pac-10
play with three home runs, seven runs batted in, 13 runs scored and
seven walks. Shull had hits in 11 of the 17 Pac-10 games she had
at-bats in. She homered in three straight against Oregon (April 30 and
May 2) and California (May 7), going 1-for-2 with three runs scored,
two RBI and two walks in the first contest with the Ducks, 3-for-4 with
two runs scored in the second game and 2-for-3 against Cal. Her two
multiple-hit games at Arizona give her five on the season, as she also
went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI against Portland State on
Feb. 21. Shull hit her first home run of the year in the season opener
against Florida Atlantic (Feb. 13), driving in a pair. She also had two

RBI against UTEP on March 6. The senior has scored runs in eight
of her last 12 games (12 runs total).
Harrison reached base in all three games last weekend, posting
a single on Friday and drawing two walks on Saturday. On Sunday,
she walked in her second at-bat and then drilled her third homer
of the season to left to give the Bruins a 6-2 advantage. The junior
is batting .275 with 20 runs batted in. She is third on the team
with 35 runs scored and 11 doubles and leads the squad with
15 sacrifice hits. The junior had a pair of multiple-hit contests at
Stanford, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI on April 23 and
2-for-5 on April 25. She also went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted
in and runs scored on April 18 at Oregon State. Harrison has 11
multi-hit games. The junior has a pair of three-hit contests to her
credit at UC Riverside (March 3) and CSU Bakersfield (March 21),
driving in a season-high three against the Roadrunners. She also
has two-hit games against Tennessee (Feb. 13), UC Davis (Feb.
20), Portland State (Feb. 21), Ohio State (Feb. 28), Cal Poly (March
23) and UNLV (March 27). Harrison had a career-high, seven-game

has scored twice in a game six times.
HITTING B.B.’S
Freshman B.B. Bates had hits in all three games last weekend,
producing a double and a walk on Friday, while recording a single
and a run scored on Saturday and Sunday. Bates is fourth on the
team with 34 runs scored and a .328 batting average, adding three
home runs, 27 runs batted in and a team-best six stolen bases.
Bates helped the Bruins steal victory from the jaws of defeat on
May 8 when she hit a walk-off, three-run homer with two outs in
the bottom of the seventh to give UCLA a 3-1 victory over California.
Bates is fourth on the team with 16 multiple-hit games. She had
at least two hits and an RBI in three straight games from April 25
to May 1, going 3-for-4 with three RBI at Stanford (April 25), 2-for-4
with an RBI against Oregon (April 30) and 2-for-3 with two RBI the
following evening versus the Ducks. Bates has hits in 14 of her last
20, including two-hit contests against Arizona State (April 11) and
Oregon State (April 17). She had a pair of three-hit affairs in the
first game of doubleheaders against UNLV (March 27) and Loyola
Marymount (March 28). Bates also had a pair of hits in the second
game of both twinbills and has added two-hit contests against UC
Santa Barbara (Feb. 17), Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 24), Colorado
State (Feb. 26), Fresno State (March 5), Long Beach State (March
26) and in both games of a doubleheader at CSU Bakersfield on
March 21. Bates had a nine-game hitting streak from Feb. 21 to
March 5, batting .387 (12-for-31) with eight runs batted in, four
runs scored and a pair of homers. The freshman has driven in
multiple runs in seven games, knocking home three and hitting
her first collegiate home run against Cal State Fullerton. She left
the yard in her very next game and had two RBI against Colorado
State. Bates also drove in a pair in the first game of a doubleheader
against UNLV and the second game of a nightcap at LMU. The
freshman has scored two runs in a game five times and had her
first, two stolen-base contest against UC Davis on Feb. 20.
HITTING IN THE TWO HOLE
Junior Monica Harrison has hits in four of her last five games and
hit a three-run homer on Sunday that spurred the Bruins to a 72 victory over Fresno State in the Regional Championship game.
DISALVATORE NAMED PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For the second time this season and the fourth time in her career,
junior GiOnna DiSalvatore was named Pacific-10 Conference Player
of the Week on May 17. DiSalvatore had multiple hits in all three
games in the regular-season series finale at Arizona, going 7-for-9
for a .778 average with a home run, four RBI, three runs scored,
two doubles and three walks. She had an .833 on base percentage
and a 1.333 slugging percentage.
The Bruins earned three of the last four Pac-10 Player of the Week
awards. Senior Megan Langenfeld received the award on April 26
and sophomore Andrea Harrison won the honor on May 3. It is the
fourth Player of the Week accolade and fifth weekly honor of the
season for the Bruins. DiSalvatore (player) and junior Donna Kerr
(pitcher) received their respective awards on Feb. 23. UCLA has
now earned 61 Pac-10 Player of the Week honors, with DiSalvatore
posting her first two as a freshman in 2008 (Feb. 12 and 26).

UCLA SOFTBALL WEEKLY RELEASE • MAY 26, 2010 • PAGE 11
The fifth-seeded Bruins came back from an early 2-0 deficit to score seven unanswered runs and defeat Fresno State 7-2 on Sunday to win the Los Angeles Regional and advance to Super Regionals. Junior
Monica Harrison hit a three-run homer, while senior Julie Burney and sophomore Samantha Camuso also left the yard.
The Bruins improve to 43-11 on the season and will host Louisiana-Lafayette next weekend in the Super Regional round. Game times and dates will be released by the NCAA later Sunday night or Monday
morning. The Bulldogs’ season concludes at 41-21.
Sophomore Aleah Macon posted her second victory of the weekend to move to 10-1 on the year, tying a career high with 12 strikeouts and allowing two runs (one earned), six hits and three walks in seven
innings. Macon retired the side in order in the second and fanned a pair in the third, fourth and seventh innings, as well as three in the fifth.
The Bruins had five hits as a team, with three of them going over the fence. Junior GiOnna DiSalvatore and freshman B.B. Bates also had singles, as DiSalvatore walked three times.
Fresno State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Haley Gilleland reached on a leadoff error, and one out later, Michelle Moses homered to left to stake the Bulldogs to an early advantage.
It was all Bruins after that though, as Camuso, whose error led to the Bulldogs’ first run, atoned with a game-tying homer. Sophomore Dani Yudin walked, and one out later, Camuso hit her 11th homer of
the season and third of the weekend to right-center to tie the game at two.
The Bruins busted it open with four in the sixth, taking advantage of a Fresno State error. With one out, Camuso walked and was pinch-run for by freshman Devon Lindvall. One out later, Bates reached on
a fielding error by second baseman Rebecca Walker to put two on base. DiSalvatore then blooped a single into left field to plate Lindvall to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead. Monica Harrison followed with her third
home run of the season to left to increase the margin to 6-2.
Macon got out of a big jam in the bottom of the sixth. The Bulldogs had the bases loaded with nobody out following a single by Courtney Moore, a walk to Caitlin Stiglich and a single from Alexis Lujan. Macon
then induced Nicole Angene into a comebacker to get a force out at home, and followed that up by striking out Walker and popping up Brooke Phipps to end the threat.
The Bruins added an insurance run in the seventh when Burney hit her 16th homer of the year to center to make it 7-2.
Following a leadoff single by Gilleland in the bottom of the seventh, Macon fanned Andrea Ortega and Moses, with the game ending when Moore was retired on a nice catch by Camuso that sent her
crashing into the wall.

UCLA SOFTBALL WEEKLY RELEASE • MAY 26, 2010 • PAGE 12
Senior Megan Langenfeld hit a pair of home runs and sophomore Andrea Harrison’s bases-loaded single with one out in the bottom of the seventh scored freshman B.B. Bates to give the fifth-seeded Bruins
a 4-3 win over San Diego State on Saturday at Easton Stadium.
The Bruins improve to 42-11 on the season and will play Fresno State in the Regional Championship game on Sunday at 12 p.m. The Bulldogs must beat UCLA twice. The Aztecs fall to 34-15.
Langenfeld had a perfect game at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks. The Bruins had six hits as a team.
Sophomore Aleah Macon moved to 9-1 on the year, striking out five in seven innings and allowing three runs (two earned), eight hits and two walks.
The Aztecs got on the board with an unearned run in the top of the second. Eva Sahatdjian led off with a single to right and was pinch-run for Roshana Lavery, who advanced to second when Monica Alnes
reached on a UCLA error following a bunt attempt. Patrice Jackson then singled to center to load the bases for San Diego State. One out later, Jen Wisneski grounded a ball up the middle. Junior GiOnna
DiSalvatore dove to her right and flipped to junior Monica Harrison at second for the force on Jackson, but Lavery came home to score the game’s first run.
After stranding two in both the first and second innings, the Bruins tied it up on one swing in the third. With one out, Langenfeld crushed a 1-1 pitch over the trees beyond the right-field fence for her 15th
homer of the season.
In the top of the fifth, Macon got out of a jam with some solid defense. Wisneski singled to left to open the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice by Felicia Reifschneider. Jessica Camello then reached
on an infield single to short to put a pair on base, but Macon snagged a line-drive comebacker off the bat of Brittany Knudsen and threw to first to double off Camello to end the inning.
Langenfeld struck again in the fifth with two outs, as she lasered a 1-2 pitch that just cleared the right-field wall for her 16th bomb of the year to make it 2-1.
In the sixth, sophomore Samantha Camuso extended the Bruins’ lead to 3-1, belting her 10th homer of the season to center on a 1-1 pitch with two outs.
The Aztecs rallied to tie the game with two in the top of the seventh. With one out, Ashley Rose was hit by a pitch and was pinch-run for by Traci Wolf. One out later, Kristin May walked and was pinch-run for
by Lindsey Marquez. San Diego State then tied the game, as Camello doubled to left to plate both pinch-runners to make it 3-all.
In the bottom of the seventh, UCLA got an infield single to short by Bates, who moved to second on a sacrifice by DiSalvatore. Monica Harrison followed with a walk and Langenfeld was walked intentionally
to load the bases. The Bruins then walked off with the victory, as Andrea Harrison chopped a single off the tip of the first baseman’s glove to score Bates and give UCLA the win.

UCLA SOFTBALL WEEKLY RELEASE • MAY 26, 2010 • PAGE 13
The fifth-seeded Bruins hit five home runs, including two by sophomore Dani Yudin, as UCLA won its Regional opener with an 11-4 victory over Saint Mary’s on Friday at Easton Stadium.
The Bruins improve to 41-11 on the season and will face San Diego State in a winner’s bracket game on Saturday at 1 p.m. Saint Mary’s falls to 30-22 and will take on Fresno State in an elimination game
on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Senior Kaila Shull, junior GiOnna DiSalvatore and sophomore Samantha Camuso also homered for the Bruins, who had 13 hits as a team. Yudin had a career-high three hits and two home runs, tying a
personal best with three runs batted in. Camuso went 2-for-2 with four RBI, while sophomore Andrea Harrison also posted a two-hit game.
Junior Donna Kerr moved to 18-7 on the season, striking out nine in 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, four hits and two walks. She retired the first 12 batters of the game, striking out a pair in the first,
second, fourth and fifth. Sophomore Aleah Macon pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn her third save of the season, striking out three and giving up a hit and a walk. She fanned a pair in the
seventh.
The Bruins scored runs in the first and second on a pair of leadoff homers. In the first, DiSalvatore led off with a solo home run to right-center, her ninth of the season, to make it 1-0. In the second, Yudin
belted her first homer of the game and seventh of the year to right to put the Bruins up 2-0.
In the fourth, the Bruins tacked on three more. Senior Julie Burney singled to right-center to open the inning and moved to third on a single to right by Yudin, who was thrown out after rounding too far off
the first-base bag. Camuso followed with a double down the left-field line to plate Burney to make it 3-0. With junior Grace Murray running at second for Camuso, Shull homered to center, her fifth bomb of
the season, to increase the margin to 5-0.
The Gaels rallied with four in the top of the fifth. Jenna Smith broke up the perfect game with a leadoff home run to left. Jessica Lemmon then walked, and two outs later, Saint Mary’s had the bases loaded
following a walk to Maryanne Cronin and a hit by pitch of Whitney Heuser. Rebecca Sabatini followed with a double down the left-field line to plate Lemmon and pinch-runner Nicole Arce to make it 5-3 and
a bunt single by Kayla Gonzales scored Heuser to cut the deficit to 5-4.
The Bruins got some breathing room in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Harrison singled to right, but was forced out at second when Burney hit into a fielder’s choice. Yudin then hit her second homer
of the game and eighth of the year to right to bring the lead back up to three at 7-4. After Camuso was hit by a pitch and Shull walked, sophomore Marti Reed singled to right to bring home Camuso to up

UCLA scored three runs for the third consecutive inning in the sixth. With one out, Harrison singled up the middle, Burney walked, and one out later, Camuso hit her ninth homer of the season to left to give

NINE-TIME PACIFIC-10 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS (1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1999, 2002, 2006, 2009)
UCLA SOFTBALL WEEKLY RELEASE • MAY 26, 2010 • PAGE 15
Kelly Inouye-Perez begins her fourth season as the
head coach of the UCLA softball program in 2010.
Inouye-Perez owns a 133-38 career record (.778 winning
percentage) and led the Bruins to a Pacific-10 Conference
Championship in 2009, as UCLA went 45-11 overall and
16-5 in league play. She was named Pac-10 Coach of
the Year and earned her 100th career victory on Feb. 22
against Maryland.
In 2008, the Bruins went 51-9 and advanced to the
Women’s College World Series, finishing second in the
Pac-10 with a 17-4 record. In her first season at the helm
of UCLA in 2007, Inouye-Perez posted a 37-18 overall
record and a 12-9 Pac-10 mark (t-3rd).
Over Inouye-Perez’s three seasons, the Bruins have
ELLY NOUYE EREZ
earned nine All-American awards, 15 All-Region honors

Inouye-Perez, just the third head coach in UCLA softball
history, officially took over the reins from Sue Enquist on
Jan. 1, 2007. Enquist announced her retirement as head
ECORD
coach on Sept. 26, 2006.
No stranger to the Bruin dugout, Inouye-Perez starts her 22nd-straight season in Westwood in
2010. She is a link to four decades of Bruin softball success, joining the UCLA softball program
as a freshman in 1989. Inouye-Perez’s apprenticeship is highlighted by six NCAA Championships
and eight Pac-10 titles in her previous 21 years, spending five campaigns as a player and 13 as an
assistant coach.
Over Inouye-Perez’s 13 seasons (1994-2006) as an assistant coach, UCLA was 617-150-1 (.804)
and appeared in the NCAA title game seven times, winning the NCAA Championship in the 1999,
2003 and 2004 seasons. The Bruins also won three Pac-10 titles during that span (1999, 2002,
2006) and in 2004 were named the National Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch
Coaches Association (NFCA).
Inouye-Perez’s primary responsibility as an assistant coach was guiding the Bruin pitchers and
catchers, a list which includes many of the most honored and recognizable names in collegiate
softball. Behind the dish, where Inouye-Perez also starred as a three-time All-Pac-10 honoree during
her playing days at UCLA, she helped mold and influence arguably the best catcher in the history
of USA Softball in Stacey Nuveman. Under Inouye-Perez’s tutelage, Nuveman became a three-time

Pac-10 Player of the Year, four-time, first-team All-American and the NCAA’s all-time single season
and career home run leader.
Since the Pac-10 Conference began issuing a Pitcher of the Year Award, UCLA has been honored
with two winners, Courtney Dale in 1999 and Keira Goerl in 2003. Among the other pitching highlights
accomplished by the Bruins over her 13 years as an assistant included at least one All-American
award earned by a UCLA pitcher in 12 of those campaigns, including DeeDee Weiman, four-time
Olympian Tanya Harding and two-time Olympian Amanda Freed.
In addition, nearly every UCLA pitching record has been set during the time Inouye-Perez has
overseen the Bruin battery and the top four pitchers on UCLA’s career wins list, Goerl, Selden, Freed
and B’Ann Burns, were coached by her.
Inouye-Perez was an exceptionally strong fielder behind the dish for the Bruins. She made her mark
immediately as a collegiate player, earning first-team All-Pac-10 as a true freshman and second-team
as a sophomore, leading the Bruins to the 1989 and 1990 NCAA Championships before receiving a
medical redshirt in 1991 due to shoulder surgery.
She came back strong in 1992, picking up second-team All-Pac-10 honors as the Bruins once again
won the national championship and finished with a 54-2 record, the fewest losses in a season in
program history. Inouye-Perez also was named to the 1992 All-Women’s College World Series Team,
going 5-for-12 (.417) with four RBI during WCWS play. She wrapped up her career as a fifth-year
senior in 1993 with an NCAA runner-up finish. Impressively, Inouye-Perez did not commit a single
fielding error during her final two seasons.
Among the UCLA pitchers during her five seasons as a player were Lisa Longaker and Lisa Fernandez,
both of whom were named to the NCAA’s 25th Anniversary All-WCWS Team. During her UCLA career,
Inouye-Perez played in 22 Women’s College World Series games, a mark that is tied for third-best in
UCLA history behind only Lisa Fernandez and Kristy Howard (23). Inouye-Perez graduated from UCLA
in 1993 with a B.A. in psychology.
Prior to college, Inouye-Perez was one of the top players during her ASA days, winning four national
championships, with the Panthers (1984, `85 and `89) and the Raiders (1986). She also competed
on an international level in Japan in 1985 and in Peru in 1987 (Pan American Tournament) and
followed her collegiate career with time playing on the NPF Pro Tour.
Inouye-Perez and her husband, Gerardo Perez, currently reside in Cerritos. Along with Kelly’s
exploits on the diamond, Gerardo competed as a catcher/DH for Cerritos College from 1988-90 and
helped lead the Falcons to the 1989 Junior College National Championship. After a stellar career at
Cerritos, he went on to compete at Loyola Marymount, earning first-team All-West Coast Conference
honors his junior and senior seasons. He currently teaches health and coaches baseball at Gahr High
School in Cerritos. The couple has two children, Michael (10) and Kylie (5).
