Component Description
Workbook, Teacher’s Edition
The Discovering French, Nouveau!–Rouge Workbook directly references the student text. It
provides additional practice to allow students to build their control of French and develop
French proficiency. The activities provide guided communicative practice in meaningful
contexts and frequent opportunity for self-expression.
Listening/Speaking Activities give students the opportunity to demonstrate comprehension
of spoken French in a variety of realistic contexts. Students listen to excerpts from the CD
that accompanies the Discovering French, Nouveau!–Rouge program while working through
listening activities to improve both general and discrete comprehension skills.

Writing Activities give students the chance to develop their writing skills and put into
practice what they have learned in class. The last one or two activities are called
Communication and encourage students to express themselves in various additional
communicative situations.

Activités pour tous, Teacher’s Edition
The activities in Activités pour tous include vocabulary, grammar, and reading practice at
varying levels of difficulty. Each practice section is three pages long, with each page
corresponding to a level of difficulty (A, B, and C). A is the easiest and C is the most
challenging.
Lesson Plans
The Lesson Plans follow the general sequence of a Discovering French, Nouveau!–Rouge
lesson. Teachers using these plans should become familiar with both the overall structure of
a Discovering French, Nouveau!–Rouge lesson and with the format of the lesson plans and
available ancillaries before translating these plans to a daily sequence.
Block Scheduling Lesson Plans
These plans are structured to help teachers maximize the advantages of block scheduling,
while minimizing the challenges of longer periods.
Family Letter and Family Involvement
This section offers strategies and activities to increase family support for students’ study of
French language and culture.
The Absent Student Copymasters enable students who miss part of a Unit to go over the
material on their own. The Absent Student Copymasters also offer strategies and
techniques to help students understand new or challenging information. If possible, make a
copy of the CD, video, or DVD available, either as a loan to an absent student or for use in
the school library or language lab.
Video Activities and Videoscript
The Video Activities that accompany the Video or DVD for each module focus students’
attention on each video section and reinforce the material presented in the module. A
transcript of the Videoscript is included for each Unit.
Audioscripts
This section provides scripts for the Audio Program, including those for the Workbook and
the Assessment Program.

Unit Tests
Reading and Culture Quizzes and Tests
This section offers a variety of achievement quizzes and tests for the readings and cultural
material in Discovering French, Nouveau!–Rouge.
To the Teacher
The Unit Tests are intended to be administered upon completion of each unit. They may be
given in the language laboratory or in the classroom. The total possible score for each test is
100 points. Scoring suggestions for each section appear on the test sheets. The Answer Key
for the Unit Tests appears at the end of the Unit Resource Book.
There is one Unit Test for each of the ten units in Discovering French, Nouveau!–Rouge.

given lesson before continuing further in the unit, the quizzes provide an opportunity for
focused cyclical re-entry and review.
Speaking Performance Test
These tests enable teachers to evaluate students’ comprehension, ability to respond in
French, and overall fluency.
Listening Comprehension Performance Test
The Listening Comprehension Performance Test is designed for group administration.
The test is divided into two parts, Scènes and Contextes. The listening selections are
recorded on CD, and the full script is also provided so that the teacher can administer the test
either by playing the CD or by reading the selections aloud.

Writing Performance Test
The Writing Performance Test gives students the opportunity to demonstrate how well
they can use the material in the unit for self-expression. The emphasis is not on the
production of specific grammar forms, but rather on the communication of meaning. Each
test contains several guided writing activities, which vary in format from unit to unit.
Multiple Choice Test Items
These are the print version of the multiple choice questions from the Test Generator. They
are contextualized and focus on vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, and cultural
knowledge.
Answer Key
The Answer Key includes answers that correspond to the material found in the Unit
Resource Book, as well as in the Student Text.
