A Jesuit, Catholic School of Excellence
MISSION STATEMENT
Fairfield College Preparatory School is by tradition
and choice a Jesuit, Catholic high school of excellence. Fairfield Prep welcomes young men of every
race, religion, and economic background to a community of faith that is both academically challenging
and personally enriching.
The mission of Fairfield Prep is:
• to offer its students the finest preparation
for college;
• to inspire in its students a lifelong love of
learning;
• to invite each student to deepen his
relationship with God;
• to encourage each student’s social, cultural,
and physical development;
• to challenge its students to become
leaders, living as men of conscience,
compassion, and action.
Fairfield Prep strives to accomplish this mission by
demonstrating personal care and concern for all of
its students and by celebrating their unique gifts and
diversity. In turn, students are expected to become
responsible participants in the Prep community and
beyond and are encouraged to use their talents in
the service of others, especially to those in need,
ad majorem Dei gloriam*
*”For the greater glory of God”, the Jesuit motto.
FAIRFIELD PREP PREPARES ALL OF ITS STUDENTS,
UPON GRADUATION, TO BE:
Open to Growth
The Fairfield College Preparatory School graduate
has begun to assume the responsibility for his own
growth and existence. He has begun to take an
active role in his own development although still in
the formative stage.
Intellectually Competent
Through the course of study at Fairfield College
Preparatory School, the graduate begins to
demonstrate and use those intellectual skills he has
acquired. These serve as the foundation for more
advanced learning and through them, he begins to
see the need for intellectual integrity in the areas of
religious truth and social justice.
Religious
By graduation the student has a firm foundation in
the major doctrines and practices of the Catholic
Church. He also has examined his own religious
feelings and beliefs with a view to choosing
a fundamental orientation toward God and
establishing a relationship with a religious tradition
and/or community. What is stated here, relative to
the conscience and religious background of the
individual, also applies to the non-Catholic student.
The innate limitations in theological understanding
are commensurate with the student’s level of
religious and human development.
Loving
By graduation the student is well on his way to
establishing his own mature identity. He is at the
point of abandoning an egocentrism in favor of
an interest in others. He begins to take the risk of
self-disclosure and to establish relationships with
others which are more profound and which require
him to accept the mystery of the individuality and
uniqueness of another person. Nevertheless, the
student’s capacity for loving is not fully developed.
He has not yet arrived at the confidence and
freedom of a mature person.
Committed to Doing Justice
By graduation the student has achieved
considerable knowledge of the many needs of local
communities and those at-large. He is preparing
for the time when he will assume membership in
these communities as a responsible, concerned and
involved citizen. The student recognizes injustices
that exist in the social order and has begun to
acquire the skills and motivation necessary to make
a commitment to doing justice.

Service Program
An important dimension of Fairfield Prep is
education for justice. The goal for this program
is best summed up in the title of an address by a
former Jesuit Superior General: “Men for Others.”
Prep’s four year service program culminates in
senior year with Social Ethics, a course that includes an academic component, a reflection group
component, and 55 hours of Christian service.
