outhwest Santa Rosa gains new park.
Two years ago Santa Rosa
Recreation, Parks & Community
Services acquired 6 acres of land in
Southwest Santa Rosa with grant
funding.
Shortly thereafter, a local non-profit,
LandPaths, partnered with the City
to turn a grazing pasture into
―Bayer Neighborhood Park &
Gardens‖, a thriving community
resource. LandPaths has created a
community garden for growing fresh
vegetables; open space for kids to
run, hide & play ball; educational
programs to promote literacy and
childhood development; a low-cost
farm stand for selling fresh local
produce; and a green oasis meeting
place for its neighbors. Without this
unique and successful partnership
this community treasure would not
be a reality. LandPaths continues to
“foster a love the land in Sonoma
County”!
V
olunteers are always
welcome in Howarth Park!
Jonathan Hawkins recently completed his Eagle Project with
the help of family and fellow scouts from Troop #32. Jon
focused on the area around the animal barn, with the goal of
making it more usable and visually pleasing. Jon's project
included the installation of water bars to help with hillside
erosion, building benches and a small amphitheatre to
increase seating, and spreading sawdust in the pony ride
corral. He accomplished his goal by getting ALL of the supplies
and materials donated, saving the City time and money.
Children and families can now enjoy additional seating, as they
watch others ride the ponies and play in the “new” dig zone play
feature. Thanks goes to Jonathan, as well as the other Eagle
Scouts, Boy Scout Troops, and community volunteers who
continue to make improvements to Howarth Park.
Community partners are essential to the success of our programs and services.
