OUR MISSION
Union County Academy for Allied Health Sciences is a unique four year secondary learning community.
Our highly selective school develops confident well-rounded students through challenging academic
experiences, with exposure to various health career skills and occupations.
We provide authentic interdisciplinary educational experiences that promote critical thinking skills.
Leadership and collaboration experiences are cultivated and refined to meet the communities’ changing
needs. Relevant technology is utilized to enhance future employment in a global society. The Academy
for Allied Health Sciences embraces and embodies highest personal and professional standards.
STUDENT SELECTION
Applicants are selected from a diverse population of eighth grade students in each of the twenty school
districts of Union County. Students are selected to attend the Union County Academy for Allied Health
Sciences in a competitive process based on the following criteria:
 Grade point average (7th – 8th grade)
 Standardized Test Scores (7th grade)
 Two Admissions Assessments (Math & Language Arts)
CURRICULUM
COURSE DESIGNATION: The Union County Academy for Allied Health Sciences day is divided into
four block-time instructional periods in an alternating A/B day schedule. All courses are designed and
taught at the honors or enriched levels and are not specifically labeled as such; there is no tracking.
Courses designed to prepare students for the Advanced Placement  examination are designated as
“AP.” All district AP courses taught have been certified by the College Board. Enrollment in AP
classes is restricted by schedules and availability. Class Rank is NOT computed due to our
competitive admissions process, small class size, and the exceptional performance of our students.

POST-SECONDARY PARTNERSHIPS: The Union County Academy for Allied Health Sciences (AAHS)
works in conjunction with Rutgers University to provide students the opportunity to earn college credit
through the School of Health Related Professions. Additionally, AAHS has a partnership with Union County
College that provides students with an opportunity to receive State certification on the New Jersey Emergency
Medical Technician –B examination.
CERTIFICATES EARNED: CPR (Red Cross), First Aid, Basic Life Support (BLS – American Heart
Association), Emergency Medical Technician-B (Vocational Certification- All students are required to take the
New Jersey Emergency Medical Technician-B certification test by the end of the senior year).
QUALITY POINT AVERAGE: QPA is calculated through a two-step process. The quality points are obtained
first by multiplying the final course grade by the number of credits received for the course. The quality points
are then divided by the total credits to produce the student’s quality point average.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Students must earn a minimum of 120 credits to graduate with a high school diploma endorsed by the New
Jersey Department of Education. The suggested minimum coursework for the Union County Academy for
Allied Health Sciences is as follows:







Four years of English
Four years of Health, Safety and Physical Education
Four years of Science
Four years of Mathematics
Three years of Social Studies
Three years of World Language
Four years of Health Career Education




One year of Visual, Performing, and/or Practical Arts
One-half year in financial, economic, business and
entrepreneurial literary

COMMUNITY SERVICE: Every student is encouraged to complete a total of 40 hours of community
service while attending the Union County Academy for Allied Health Sciences. Twenty hours should be
completed by the end of the sophomore year and the remainder before graduation. These hours should
be fulfilled with at least two different community service activities.
