The Food-Safe School Team Leader
coordinates the team and is the key
messenger, advocate, and guide for ensuring
a food-safe school. The Food-Safe Schools
Action Guide urges Team Leaders to follow these
simple but critical recommendations. Details, tips, and
resources to help implement each recommendation are
outlined in the Action Guide’s in-depth modules at
www.FoodSafeSchools.org.
1. Identify and establish a Food-Safe School Team.
2. Establish effective communication with team members.
The Team Leader is
essential to a
food-safe school
He/she can:
Organize a school-wide effort to
assess and strengthen current food
safety practices.
Identify and coordinate new food
safety activities.
4. Develop an action plan.
Follow up with Food-Safe School
Team members to ensure that
improvement efforts are being
carried out.
5. Implement and monitor the action plan.
Rally support for food safety efforts.
3. Complete the Food-Safe School Needs Assessment and
Planning Guide.
6. Measure progress and outcomes.
7. Conduct advocacy and public awareness activities.
