NILD Canada™ trains educators in
a model of intervention utilizing a
variety of techniques designed to
stimulate cognitive and perceptual
functioning. The goal of NILD
Educational Therapy™ is to equip
individuals with learning disorders
to succeed as independent
learners.
Allison Mulinax, B.S., M.A.
Allison is the Assistant Principal of Park Place
School, an intervention elementary school
program for struggling learners in Norfolk, VA.
She also currently serves as a classroom teacher
and NILD Educational Therapist.
During her twelve years as an educator, she has
served as a classroom teacher, administrator,
Level III NILD trained educational therapist and a
leadership team member for Discovery Program,
Inc. She is committed to impacting the lives of
young learners as she seeks to implement NILD
methodology at Park Place School as well as train
educators. Allison is a trainer for NILD as she
conducts courses and presents seminars and
workshops nationally and internationally.
Dr. Ronn Young, Ph.D.
Dr. Ronn Young has 28 years of counselling
experience and for the past six years has worked
as a psychotherapist at TSR Clinics in Oshawa.
Ronn holds a certified membership with the
OACCPP and is an adjunct professor at the
University of Ontario Institute of Technoogy.
Ronn persuasively argues that people are
dramatically more effective, fulfilled and
successful when they are able to focus on the best
of themselves. He and his wife are also the proud
parents of an NILD student!.
Rob Vivian

Rob, the president of Rob Vivian Coaching, is a
successful business coach with16 years of
coaching and training experience and over
40,000 coaching calls. He is an international
speaker and trainer whose clients achieve ten
times the average in production. Coaching,
guiding people to their goals, and playing a roll
in assisting an individual in achieving something
significant are all some of the things Rob is most
passionate about.
Sharol Cordner
Sharol has a Bachelor’s Degree in Adapted
Physical Education, is a Registered Polarity
Practitioner and Educator, and a Brain Gym®
Consultant. She teaches with Realizing Your
Potential, a school offering courses in Brain Gym®
and Polarity Therapy, and works with Canadian
Paraplegic Association Ontario. Sharol has worked
for several years with people with disabilities and
acquired brain injury. She has also taught exercise
classes and ballroom dance, subtly incorporating
Brain Gym® movements.

Plumbing the Depths of Comprehension
Allison Mullinax
What are best practices in reading comprehension
instruction and how can an educational therapist
utilize them? This workshop will review the therapy
techniques that strengthen comprehension and
highlight the connection between current reading
research and NILD Educational Therapy.

Handwriting: The Case for Instruction
Allison Mullinax
This workshop will develop a rationale for teaching
correct handwriting in the early grades and
expecting cursive writing throughout the grades.
Research and rationale for this important skill and
its relationship to success in all the language arts
will be presented. Attendees will be challenged to
go beyond the idea that cursive writing is a skill of
the past which is not useful in today's culture.

The Missing Language Strand
Allison Mullinax
Have you worked with a student that struggled to
establish positive social relationships and seemed
isolated and alone? This workshop will discuss
current research highlighting the symptoms of
dyssemia, a term used for nonverbal communication
difficult ties. We will discuss how dyssemia might be
impacting your student in therapy as well as the
school setting and we will unpack ways to mediate
this critical component of language.

What are the causes and consequences of ‘social
incompetence’? Drawing on current research and
thirty years of experience in residential schools, Rick
LaVoie provides powerful strategies for teaching
friendship skills in the classroom, home and
community. The DVD includes special features on
bullying and boys, girls and friendships—how they
differ.
