Want to learn about your interests? The Torii Station Education Center has a Computer based program called DISCOVER. You can explore occupations, learn about Majors in Colleges and Universities, select a career plan and develop job-seeking skills. There are up to three different inventories that will assess your interests, abilities and job values that will help you begin your search. You can do this at home on your personal computer or come to the Language Lab at the Ed Center, Bldg 246 and use one of our computers. There is no cost involved for active duty or Dependents. Come by the Education Center today and talk to the Guidance Counselor about getting started. Torii Station Education Center is giving briefings twice a month on the New Post 9/11 GI Bill. Just because you have served after 09/10/01 does not automatically entitle you to Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits, it only makes you eligible for the new benefits. You have to send in an application. Come to one of the briefings to find out what you have to do. Want to know more about transferring your benefits to your dependents, getting up to a $1,000 a year to help you pay for textbooks and supplies, receiving a housing stipend and much more under the new GI Bill. Confused on what to take or how to get started? Learn how to register to use Tuition Assistance, use your GI Bill entitlements or how to apply for financial assistance. Learn what is available on Island and through distance education. Active duty and adult dependents are all welcome to attend. Get a good jump on starting your college career. During these briefings all Soldiers will have the opportunity to register in GoArmyEd. Briefing Dates: 18 Aug, 8 & 22 Sep 11 @1300~ *All briefings will take place at Torii Station Education Center. Contact at 644-4954/4684 to make a reservation for a seat. THE SOC DEGREE NETWORK SYSTEM Are you a Spouse of an Active Duty Servicemember? Is PCS moves preventing you from getting a college degree? Sign up today for a Servicemember Opportunity College (SOC) Student Agreement Plan. This is for both Associate and Bachelor Degrees. There is no charge for this, it is FREE. College-age children of active-duty are also available for this Student agreement. No more that 25% of the courses required for your degree must be completed at your Home College (30% for programs offered entirely online). You can use non-traditional learning, including standardized tests, such as the CLEP or DSST. The Student Agreement serves as your degree contract. You can continue working towards that degree from your Home School no matter where you live. Select "Publications" to access the SOC Degree Network Handbooks and look at Chapter 3 Which is a guide to the SOC Network System. Sponsored by the Department of Defense for military spouses of Service members on active duty in pay-grades E-1 to E-5 and 01 to 02 who can start and complete their coursework while their military sponsor is on Title 10 military orders. McCAA provides a maximum education benefit of $4,000 with an annual Fiscal year cap of $2,000. The objective of MyCAA is to expand employment Opportunities for military spouses. You can take education or training courses and examinations that lead to an Associate's degree, license, certificate at an accredited college, university or technical school in the United States or approved testing organization. COUNCIL OF COLLEGE AND MILITARY EDUCATORS (CCME) SCHOLARSHIP The CCME has ten $1000 scholarships to award; five for active duty and five for military spouses. The deadline for scholarship applications to be received is 1 September 2011. If you want to learn about, study for or take an Army Personnel Test, you can do it all at the Ed Center on Torii Station. College Level Examination Program (CLEP), ACT, SAT, DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST), and a lot of other academic related examinations are available on Island. If we do not provide these examinations, we do provide testing schedules, study materials and will show you how you can use these tests to gain entrance into a college or university and how these examinations will help you obtain your degree faster. Contact CTC to find more information. *** EDUCATION COUNSELING JAPANESE HEADSTART PROGRAM Want to start college and don’t have a clue about national vs. regional accreditation, semester or quarter hours, majors or minors, matriculation requirements, Tuition Assistance, or how to start using your GI Bill Education Benefits? Come in and talk to our Education Counselor about a variety of programs to include using GoArmyEd, Tuition Assistance and other financial assistance programs. Reference: USARJ / I Corps (FWD) Commanding General’s Policy #08-12 and USAG-J Command Policy #117 Purpose: This program is designed to provide an orientation to Soldiers on the language and culture of Japan. It is mandatory for all Soldiers and Department of Army Civilians who have never been stationed in Japan. Adult family members (18 yrs & older) are also invited to attend the program. We even have two college representatives who can guide you through the admission requirements and help you get started with University of Maryland University College or Central Texas College.
