Reptiles at Risk
September 28, 2015
Canada’s reptiles are in trouble! Most of our snakes, turtles and
lizards are species at risk. Come learn about them and how you
can help. Our presenter will cover topics like how to tell them
apart, where they live, what they eat, and why they are in
trouble. Get up close and personal with some of our scaly
friends. You can even touch or hold a live snake!
Genetically Modified Organisms
October 26, 2015
Dr Jeremy McNeil, Professor of Chemical Ecology at the
University of Western Ontario, will present his research on
genetic modification. Is it good, bad or just ugly?
The Plight of Pollinators
November 30, 2015
Dr. Gard W. Otis, professor at the University of Guelph, will talk
about how dramatically the world of pollinators has changed as
farming practices have changed. Record low numbers of
monarch butterflies and honeybee deaths have been regular
stories in recent years. Gard will explore the difficult conditions
faced by monarchs and honeybees in Ontario and beyond.
Naturalized Landscaping by Return the Landscape (RTL)
January 25, 2016
Return the Landscape, a program of LWI, is pleased to present
their newest publication "Landscape in Harmony with Nature".
RTL staff will share their ecology based landscaping experience
and methods to encourage everyone to live in harmony with
nature in their own backyards. Learn about our amazing native
plants and the wonderful creatures they attract and support.
This presentation and the book will get you well on your way to
creating your own nature friendly landscape.
Geographic Variation of Bird Song
February 29, 2016
Dr. Beth MacDougall-Shackleton, Associate Professor at
University of Western Ontario, presents the “Geographic
Variation of Bird Song.” Because songbirds learn to sing during
early life, birdsong (much like human accents) varies from place
to place and conveys information about the birthplace of the
singer. Do female birds use this information to choose their
mates? Do preferences help them to produce healthy offspring?
BioBlitz
March 21, 2016
Lisa Richardson is Ontario Nature’s Nature Network Coordinator
and is leading Ontario Nature’s BioBlitzs. This presentation will
introduce LWI’s proposed Karner Blue Properties BioBlitz which
will be significant not only for producing species inventories, but
also for providing environmental education to the public and
promoting community involvement.
LWI Annual General Meeting And Banquet
When: April 16, 2016
Where: Camlachie United Church
The business meeting and general elections are at 4:30 pm.
The bucket draw opens at 5:00 pm. Then the delicious dinner is

Bay, Nunavut and Greenland. Her presentation will show the
wide diversity of habitats, birds, other wildlife, and wildflowers
found in these four areas of the North.
Clubs For Kids And Youth
We believe positive outdoor experiences create an appreciation
and understanding of the natural world among today’s youth. By
using nature as our guide, LWI promotes our children’s interest
in scientific inquiry, community involvement and artistic
creativity.
Young Naturalist Group
For children (ages 6-11) interested in the future of our natural
environment.
Jr. Conservationist Group
For youth (ages 12-16) interested in performing positive
conservation ACTIONS helping to protect preserve or
rehabilitate natural spaces and their inhabitants.
We strive to provide a lively and informative program for our
members. As a member of LWI, you will be supporting projects
like the Port Franks properties and the Lambton Young
Naturalists. You will receive our newsletter “EARTHWAYS”,
which will keep you up to date on all club events. The newsletter
