This national examination is a comprehensive and integrative test of the accounting and management knowledge gained through university-level studies. This knowledge serves as a foundation for the advanced concepts and practices covered in the Strategic Leadership Program. The examination syllabus is divided into two broad categories that are tested in the following proportions: Management Studies – 67% Includes Management Accounting, Corporate Finance, Operations Management, Information Technology, Strategic Management, International Business, Human Resources and Marketing General Accounting Studies – 33% Includes Financial Accounting, Taxation and Internal Control The examination consists of two parts, each four hours in length. Part 1, written on the Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., is a multiple-choice exam that challenges the candidate’s knowledge, comprehension and application of all Prerequisite Studies topics. At the conclusion of Part 1, candidates are given an organizational ‘backgrounder’ on the enterprise that is the subject of Part 2 of the examination. Part 2, written on the Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., is a complex business case based on the organization described in the background material. The objective of Part 2 is to evaluate the candidate’s higher-level skills of judgement, analysis, evaluation, integration and communication. The pass mark for each part is 60% and both parts must be successfully completed to be eligible for the CMA Strategic Leadership Program.
