Coloration of Fertilizers: Main Reasons:

Coloration of fertilizers helps end users to their right identification and usage, as it
enables to easily distinguish the different types of products.
2.
It is a very good tool to hide their formulation and protect the products against
competition.
3.
As tool of marketing, fertilizer can be coloured with the corporative colours of the
company.
4.
We use the coloration to improve the aspect and the uniformity of the product.
5.
To differentiate clearly the different blends that we can manufacture.
6.
For all these reasons, coloration provides to the fertilizers an important added value,
and it is a field with a great projection in the short and medium term.

Processes of Coloration
Processes of Coloration (they mainly answer to the physical state of fertilizer).
1. Liquid fertilizers: By means of solubility of the colour in the different solutions or emulsions.
2. Crystalline fertilizers: By means of mixture of colours in powder form, not water soluble.
3. Solid fertilizers like NPK type: For this type of fertilizers, probably the most common, two different
processes are used for the coloration :
• PROCESS IN MASS
This process consists of colouring the paste of the fertilizer before the process of granulation, that is to
say, before the formation of the granule of fertilizer: for it we must apply the dispersed pigment in liquid
form in the blender.
• TROMMER or CONDITIONER
In this case the dye is applied once the fertilizer has passed through the blender and through the
granuler, that is to say, it is applied in the conditioner or TROMMER once we have the fertilizer in grain.
It is a superficial application of colour, on the surface of the granule.
Occasionally we can colour different mixtures of fertilizers (Blendings) in the same Trommer.

FERTIMAC® - Pigments and Dispersions for the Coloration of Fertilizers
Proquimac presents his series of dispersed pigments FERTIMAC®, ideal to colour
and coat all type of fertilizers (e.g. NPK).
FERTIMAC® is a registered trademark which formulation is made both in liquid and
in powder. It has been developed essentially to avoid interferences among its
components to guarantee the non pollution in the treatments of lands.
Proquimac offers a wide range of colours in his pigmented dispersions as the Black,
Blue, Green, Red and Yellow, being able to supply also any colour formulated by
our customers, including likewise corporative colours, and also pigments 100%.
The range FERTIMAC® covers all kinds of fertilizers like NPK, Urea, Nitrates and
Blendings.

WATER SOLUBLE SYNTHETIC DYES (Food grade)
PROQUIMAC presents his series of water soluble Synthetic Dyes for applications, between
others, in liquid fertilizers. These are organic dyes obtained by chemical synthesis, and they
are supplied in powder for being solved or dispersed in the product.
These dyes have a purity of 70-85% being the majority of the remaining percentage organic
salts produced during the manufacturing process, which maximum allowed quantities are
fixed in the corresponding European directives.
Therefore, synthetic dyes do not have toxicological effects, they possess a uniform quality
that guarantees a very precise shade, which makes much easier their application.
We have a wide range of ideal dyes to work at any pH condition.

PROQUIDET® - Water Soluble Technical Dyes
The PROQUIDET dyes range include dyes of different types: acid, basic and direct. They are
water soluble dyes with a wide field of application: fertilizers and phytosanytary products,
colouring of seeds and artificial flowers and other products where it is required water soluble
dyes.
The difference against the water soluble synthetic dyes is that the PROQUIDET range can be
used at more extreme pH conditions, being in this case more effective than the CONACERT
range.
The range of colours and shades is very wide. Stabilities depend on each product, and the
technical department can advise the most suitable depending on the characteristics of
composition and pH of the fertilizer which has to be coloured. Some of the PROQUIDET dyes
can also be supplied in liquid form.
PROQUIDET dyes are packed in cardboard drums, with inner polyethylene bag.
All PROQUIMAC dyes are labelled in agreement with the labelling norms of the EEC.
