Fourth Friday Faith & Film Flicks Night.
Join us at 6:30 pm in the lower hall of St. Mary’s
for a faith based film. Friday September 27.
The Keys of the Kingdom (1944, 137 minutes, black &
white). After losing his parents and girlfriend, a man becomes a priest. Sent by his bishop as a China missionary
he discovers his true vocation. Stars Gregory Peck,
Thomas Mitchell and Vincent Price.
It is very good to have Ian Duckworth
with us in the parish. He relates very
well with the young people. Ian has a
deep Catholic faith yet with an ability to
share it with youth. He brings many gifts
to the table which I can certainly see
adds a good balance to me. I think we really complement
each other well. This Sunday we will be formally installing
Ian in his position as parish Coordinator of Youth
Ministry. Congratulations!
A very large thank you goes to Rosey Guidolin who has
served as the president of our Parish Pastoral Council
(PPC) since around the time of my arrival about four years
ago. Rosey and her husband, Fred, moved to Delhi some
years ago. They have become involved in Our Lady, Queen
of Martyr’s parish in Delhi. Rosey always brought a creative,
peaceful and faithful leadership to our PPC. I thank her for
her service and pray the Lord will bless the Guidolin family in
the coming years.
Many have noticed the restored statue of Ste-Anne at St.
Mary’s Church. This statue was in the sanctuary at the old
St. Cecilia’s downtown. Chris Shantz had a few questions
(she is not only an artist, but also an art historian!): does
anyone remember seeing the statue in the old church?; does
anyone remember if the statue came from another parish or
as a donation?; the statue itself was made in Montreal sometime before 1923, would anyone know when and how it got to
Norfolk County?
October is the month of the Holy Rosary. Please pick up a
brochure at the entrance of the Church to learn how to pray
this beautiful devotion to the Virgin Mary. During this month
of October we will pray the Rosary prior to the start of the
Sunday Masses about 1/2 hour beforehand. The Legion of
Mary will lead at both the Saturday 5 pm & Sunday 11 am
Masses at St. Mary's. The Catholic Women's League and
the Knights of Columbus will lead at the Sunday 9 am Mass
at St. Cecilia's. Please join us if you can!
Would you like to receive the bulletin by email? Great if you
are away from home and want to keep up with things or a
way to be environmentally sensitive! Just email Barb to let
her know bbalog@dol.ca
Please join our parish Rose Lummis prayer campaign for the
young people of our parish. The saintly Rose Lummis asked
everyone to pray an extra decade of the Rosary (you may
substitute another prayer too) to have what is now St. Mary’s
and St. Cecilia’s built. Please pray for our youth.
……………………….. continued
Please note the dates of our parent information meetings for
the Sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion:
Confession & First Holy Communion meeting: St. Mary’s,
Sunday October 20 after the 11 am Mass; St. Cecilia’s,
Sunday October 27 after the 9 am Mass. Ordinarily in our
diocese in grade two a child receives the Sacraments of
Reconciliation (Penance) and the Holy Eucharist for the first
time. Confirmation is typically received in grade eight. The
meetings are identical at each parish and you attend either
one.
Is a pilgrim safe travelling to the Holy Land? Please ask me
and I could share my personal experience and also connect
you to others who have been. In short both the Israelis and
Arabs want the pilgrims to come and coupled with the heavy
security it makes for a very safe pilgrimage. So consider
making the Bible come alive by visiting the holy sites! Pease
consider being part of our pilgrimage to the Holy Land
(Israel & Jordan) March 7-18. The price is $3190 per
person (plus air taxes). For an itinerary, registration form or
more details please contact me. It is an unforgettable
experience to visit the lands Jesus walked. Ten people have
committed thus far.
Do you have a question or need help with something?
Please ask.
Vocation Views
Do you think it is the Lord who is motivating you to make lots of
money, to use people, to grab for power, to attend to the needs
of others?
Stewardship
“It is my wish, then, that in every place the people should pray,
lifting up holy hands, without anger or argument.” 1 Timothy
2:8
Try to make it a habit to give God the first few minutes of each
day by simply praying, “Lord, what do You want me to do today
with all the gifts You have given me?” Then be sure to listen for
His response throughout each day.
Quote of the Week
“So, these words of the Gospel do not authorize in any way the use
of force in spreading the faith. It is precisely the contrary: the true
force of the Christian is the force of truth and of love, which means
rejecting all violence. Faith and violence are incompatible! Faith
and violence are incompatible! But faith and strength go together.
The Christian is not violent, but he is strong. And with what
strength? That of meekness, the force of meekness, the force of
love.” Pope Francis. Rome. 2013 08 18.
In the event of a Funeral Mass, the daily Mass will be
cancelled except for Tuesday night, school and nursing
home Masses. Please remember that anyone can attend
the Funeral of a brother or sister in Christ. The Mass intention scheduled for that day will then be offered at a
later date.

In today’s culture, the promotion of Vocations to the
Priesthood is a daunting task. The Strategic plan for
Vocations in the Diocese of London challenges all to create
a Culture of Vocations across our Diocese. It is essential
that we support one another in this mission.
You are cordially invited to spend a morning at St. Peter’s
Seminary in London on October 19th. You will have time to
hear of the work of the Vocations Office, to be inspired by
the call of a few seminarians, to celebrate the Eucharist with
the Seminary Community and to have lunch as well. I hope
to see you there! Registration is at www.dol.ca under
Vocations, or call me at 519 432 1824 ext. 204
(please note that space is limited). In Christ, Father John
Pirt, Director of Vocation, Diocese of London.

A Highlight From Pope Francis new encyclical
“Lumen Fidei” (Light of Faith).
To read the whole letter see www.vatican.va
From Paragraph 52: “The first setting in which faith enlightens
the human city is the family. I think first and foremost of the
stable union of man and woman in marriage. This union is
born of their love, as a sign and presence of God’s own love,
and of the acknowledgment and acceptance of the goodness
of sexual differentiation, whereby spouses can become one
flesh (cf. Gen 2:24) and are enabled to give birth to a new life,
a manifestation of the Creator’s goodness, wisdom and loving
plan.”
Have you never been Baptized?

The latest Catholic CD
The latest Catholic CD is Matthew Arnold talking about Our
Lady of Good Success: Made Known For Our Time. There
is also a bonus section with Dr. Scott Hahn giving a Biblical
explanation of Marian devotion. Worthwhile to listen to.
An update from the St. Mary’s Finance & Property Committee:
As you may have noticed the large Jack Pine tree, which was located behind the Rectory Garage (at
the east side of the Church Hall adjacent to the School and car park), has been removed. It had been
observed that the Jack Pine was developing many dead branches so an Arborist was consulted who
confirmed the Jack Pine was dying, consequently, to avoid the possibility of winds blowing the tree
down and causing bodily harm and/or property damage we had the tree removed. In addition the shrubs and trees have been
prune along the east side of the parking lot.
