Assignment: Students will work in groups to identify parts on their computer, and tor research technical information for their computer. Instructions 1. Photograph the back of your tower/desktop. The photo should be close up and clear enough to identify each port on the back of the unit. a. Take a good quality picture b. Using Photoshop, Illustrator, Paint or some similar software, fully and clearly label each port on the photograph. c. Create a folder to store all your work for this class, and save this picture. Call it something relevant, like “computer ports”. 2. Open up your desktop/tower to have a look at your motherboard. Find the identifying information and write it down. This will be the model number, and possible a serial number. At this point you have two options: a. Take a picture of your motherboard and label all the major components such as ram, expansion slots, onboard ports, etc. Or: b. Research your motherboard by going to google and doing a search with the model number or serial number. Find a photograph that is already labeled. If you find pictures, but none are labeled, then just save one of the pictures and label it. c. Save your image into the folder you created. Call it “labeled motherboard”. 3. As part of your google search, find the technical data for the motherboard. This is information that includes chipset, processor type, ram capabilities, etc. a. Find the specs for your motherboard. b. Save them in a convenient format. If you find the info in a PDF document, save the PDF. If not, try copying and pasting into a word document. Grading You will be graded on the completeness of your images. Any port or part not labeled will count off of the overall score. You will receive points for finding your motherboard specs.
