MINUTES OF WAPAKONETA CITY BOARD OF EDUCATION
REGULAR SESSION
Tuesday, April 22, 2014

The meeting of the Board of Education of the Wapakoneta City School District was called to
order by President Pat Gibson.
ROLL CALL
Upon the roll being called, the following were present:

Also in attendance were Keith Horner, Superintendent; Angela Sparks, Treasurer; John Bush
with the Wapakoneta Daily News; community members; and staff.
The pledge of allegiance was led by President Pat Gibson.

Athletics-Willie Sammetinger
Apollo Career Center - Willie Sammetinger reported that the early site foundation and structural
steel package have been signed and awarded. The rest of the building bid packages will bid May
22. Moving of classes and equipment has begun. Students are preparing for end-of-year testing.
Preparations are being made for next year’s classes.
Each member thanked the respective administrator for providing the update from their building.

Wes Newland welcomed the students and parents to Wapakoneta Middle School. This is a good
representation of the children we have in our school. We have awesome kids.

Dakota Fought and Reed Merricle were unable to make it tonight so they will be recognized at a
future meeting.
Mr. Newland thanked all of the families in attendance. He stated that he is extremely proud of
the children because they are very much representative of all of our children. He was
appreciative for all of the support provided by family members and the teachers as well. He
thanked the teachers for their dedication and for being here this evening.
Mr. Mertz thanked the teachers for coming on their own time tonight to honor the children.

The next regular Board meeting is Tuesday, May 27, at 7:00 p.m. at the High School.
HEARING OF THE PUBLIC
Public Participation Regarding Rehiring of Retiree:
Members of the public are invited to provide input to the Board on the issue of re-employing
Michael Davis during his service retirement. Speakers are limited to five (5) minutes each, and
all public comment will be closed after thirty (30) minutes. A sign-up sheet will be used, if
necessary, to determine the order in which persons will address the Board.
No participants were noted.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
39-14 Member Ron Mertz moved and Member Eric McKinniss seconded to approve to Adjourn
to Executive Session at 7:56 p.m. for the appointment or employment of public
employee, official, licensee, or regulated individual, unless the public employee, official,
licensee, or regulated individual requests a public hearing; and preparing for, conducting,
or reviewing negotiations with public employees; with no action to be taken.
