Parents of seniors need to use their federal tax information to be able to complete the Free Application for Federal Student

Aid (FAFSA) form.

The FAFSA form requires 2006 tax information such as adjusted gross income, tax form used, taxes paid, etc., but does not require the taxes to be filed. In fact, the FAFSA form can be completed using estimated tax information, which is probably the best idea if your current year tax information (i.e., W-2 form) is late or temporarily unavailable. Some parents just use the previous year’s tax form with slight modifications to complete the FAFSA form. FAFSA forms cannot be submitted prior to

January 1, 2007, but they should be submitted as soon as possible thereafter (especially to private colleges) to maximize the chances of receiving school based financial aid.

Filing the FAFSA form on the Internet can be done by using the following website : www.fafsa.ed.gov

Also, a signature certification form has to be signed and submitted through the mail if using FAFSA on the web.
