MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING REGARDING ACADEMIC COOPERATION BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA SAN DIEGO, HEALTH SCIENCES, AND UNIVERSIDAD PERUANA CAYETANO HEREDIA, LIMA, PERÚ This Memorandum of Understanding is entered into this……..day of……………....2012, by and between, the Regents of the University of California, on behalf of the University of California, San Diego Health Sciences, located in La Jolla, California, USA ("UCSD"), and the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, located in Lima, Peru, and its faculties of Medicine, Science and Philosophy, and Public Health ("UPCH") with respect to the following: Whereas UCSD and UPCH seek to establish a closer relationship in order to foster collaboration between both educational institutions with the goal of participating in academic, scientific and cultural activities in areas of common interest, and; Whereas the objective of this agreement is to promote a cooperative spirit which will enhance the goodwill which characterizes the relationship between our two countries, and; Towards achieving these objectives, UCSD and UPCH agree to the following goals: a. b. c. d. To improve educational and instructional opportunities between the two institutions to create education, training and research collaborations of mutual interest in diverse areas of science, medicine and public health towards the global improvement of human health. To create opportunities for intellectual and professional advancement of our faculties. To increase the quality of our curricula and to develop projects and facilities for teaching, research and patient care. To share expertise and experience to further scientific and academic interaction between the two institutions, to complement their respective areas of expertise, and to enhance their respective missions to deliver the very best in translational research toward the goal of improving human health. The parties propose to take the following steps in working toward these goals and objectives: Exchange information to develop and seek support for: 1. Exchanges of faculty 2. Exchanges of medical and graduate students, and clinical and research trainees 3. Exchanges of ideas, joint research projects and publications 4. Exchanges of publications, materials, and information 5. Organizing and sponsoring joint conferences and workshops 6. Special short-term programs and visits 7. Develop more precise objectives and programs in keeping with the spirit of this affiliation and enter into specific agreements to address the details of such endeavors. This agreement may be terminated without cause, for a reason, at any time by either party upon ninety (90) days prior written notice provided, however, no termination should adversely interrupt or impair a program or course of study or its participants commenced prior to such termination.
