Fall 2013 GED TESTING SCHEDULE Signal Peak, Learning Support Center Building O, Room 200 PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED Call (520) 494-5042 or 494-5405 for information. PRE-REGISTRATION All NEW students must pre-register during regular business hours at the college (8:00 am – 6:00 pm). Monday through Thursday, at the Learning Support Center, Building O. PAYMENT of $90 IS REQUIRED at the Cashier’s office (Building M) during pre-registration. Testing appointments will be scheduled in Room 200, Building O, after payment has been made. DAYTIME TESTING: Mondays only, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (TESTING STARTS PROMPTLY AT 8:15 AM) September – 9, 16, 23, 30 October – 7, 14, 21, 28 November – 4, 18, 25 December – 2, 9, 16, EVENING TESTING: Tuesdays only, 4:00 PM – 8:30 PM (TESTING STARTS PROMPTLY AT 4:15 PM) September – 10, 17, 24 October – 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 November – 5, 12, 19, 26 December – 3, 10, 17 THE COST $90 fee for new examinees. Pay at the Cashier’s area of the Student Services Building. Checks or money orders should be made to Central Arizona College. Credit cards and debit cards are also accepted. $15 per retest: For any subject, however, only 2 retests are allowed on each subject per year. SCORE REPORTING After completing the 5 tests, results will be available online within 48 hours at: www.GED123.org We do not give out ANY information over the phone regarding test scores. The Arizona Department of Education will mail diplomas within 2 weeks. To pass the GED test, the average of the 5 tests must be 450. If a single test score falls below 410 (out of 800 points possible), or if the overall total of the 5 tests does not equal 2250 points, a retest will be needed. Any subject(s) that are needed to pass may be scheduled for retesting after waiting 30 days. . WHO CAN BE TESTED – Anyone 18 years of age or older. Two forms of identification required. (One of them must be an OFFICIAL government issued ID with a picture!) Photo MUST be clear and writing must be legible. Anyone who has not received a high school diploma or GED diploma. Persons who are 16 and 17 years old who provide the following documents: 1) Two forms of identification: One of them must be an official government issued ID with date of birth and picture (high school ID is not acceptable) 2) A notarized letter of permission from a parent or legal guardian and 3) written verification of non-attendance from last public school attended. (Married 16/17 year olds MUST show a copy of their marriage license in place of parent’s written permission). GED SCHOLARSHIPS: A one semester scholarship will be offered to all examinees that pass the GED exam at Central Arizona College. GED Classes: For information on classes, call 494-5950. Classes are free to those who have been Arizona residents for at least one year. Accommodations: Reasonable accommodations, including testing materials, will be made for individuals with disabilities. Please call the GED testing center at 494-5405 for more information. Note: A new version of the GED test will be in effect as of Jan. 1, 2014. You must pass all sections of the current version by that date or you will lose all of your scores and will have to restart the testing process. TEST CONTENT MATHEMATICS (50 questions, 90 minutes) Consists of questions that will measure general mathematics skills and problem solving ability. Questions often include a graph or chart. A calculator is permitted on the first portion of the test. Skills tested: Arithmetic Algebra Geometry LANGUAGE ARTS, WRITING Part I (50 questions, 75 minutes) The Writing Test measures the examinee’s ability to use clear and effective written English. Skills tested include: Sentence Structure Usage Spelling, Punctuation, Capitalization Part II (Essay, 45 minutes) The Essay will be used to determine how well an examinee can use written language to explain their thoughts and ideas. 200 – 250 Word Essay on an assigned topic CENTRAL ARIZONA COLLEGE GED DIPLOMA TESTING PROGRAM GED TEST SCHEDULE LANGUAGE ARTS, READING (40 questions, 65 minutes) The Reading Test consists of excerpts from fiction and nonfiction. Each excerpt is followed by multiple choice questions from: Popular Literature Classical Literature SCIENCE (50 questions, 80 minutes) The Science Test is intended to measure general concepts in science. The questions will often include a graph, chart, or figure based on: Life Science Physical Science SOCIAL STUDIES (50 questions, 70 minutes) The Social Studies Test will measure general social studies concepts.
