COOPERATION PROJECT FOR STUDENTS EXCHANGE BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY OF ______________AND THE UNIVERSITY OF VALLADOLID Recognizing the benefits of educational interchange and cooperation, the University of ______________ and the University of Valladolid entered into a general agreement in (date)__________ to cooperate, where both feasible and desirable, in scholarly activities. This sub-agreement is made pursuant to the general agreement of (date)__________ for the purpose of establishing a student exchange program between the University of ____________ and the University of Valladolid. It is intended to be flexible and to facilitate cooperation between the two universities. 1) STUDENT EXCHANGE: a) The University of ________________ agrees to accept up to (number of students)____ students at a (level of studies)___________during (length of exchange period)___________, nominated by the University of Valladolid as exchange students. The University of Valladolid agrees to accept up to (number of students)____ students at a (level of studies)___________during (length of exchange period)___________, nominated by the University of _____________ as exchange students. A higher level of participation may be agreed upon, as needed, to accommodate demand and to achieve balance in numbers of students over the life of this agreement. b) Each institution agrees to select students for exchange on the basis of academic proficiency and ability to gain from multi-cultural exchange. The University of Valladolid will select students with proficiency in the (foreign language)___________. The University of ___________ will select students with proficiency in the Spanish language. Assessment of language proficiency will be conducted using any methodology deemed appropriate by the testing institution. c) Students remain enrolled in (level of courses)_____________ courses at the home institution during the exchange period. Students are expected to return to the home institution to complete their programs at the end of the exchange period. d) Students shall register for courses at the host institution subject to consultation with and approval of program advisors in the home institution. For the purposes of this agreement, both institutions agree to provide the other with information on program offerings in advance of the exchange year, to allow outbound students to receive timely advice on course selection. e) Admission to project courses and supervision of theses require prior notification to and agreement by the host institution for each individual case. While every effort will be made to accommodate such requests, acceptance cannot be guaranteed. f) At the end of the exchange period, the host institution will provide the home institution with official transcripts of grades for its students. g) Students shall enjoy all privileges and be subject to all academic and other regulations at the host institution, on the same basis as domestic undergraduate students in an analogous program. h) Students shall pay regular tuition fees at their home institution during their exchange period. Other fees charged to exchange students at the host institution shall be on the same scale as for domestic students. i) The host institution agrees to provide orientation to exchange students from the home institution and to assist them in finding suitable living accommodations. In emergency situations affecting exchange students, the host institution will act on behalf of the home institution as appropriate under the circumstances. j) Exchange students are required to contract for adequate health insurance to the satisfaction of both institutions. 2) GENERAL a) Both institutions subscribe the policy of equal opportunity and will not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, age, ethnicity, religion, citizenship or national origin. Both institutions shall abide by these principles in the administration of this agreement and neither institution shall impose criteria for the exchange of students which would violate the principles of nondiscrimination. b) Each institution will nominate a program coordinator to act as a contact person for the other institution and to ensure that the terms of this exchange program are carried out. In the case of the University of Valladolid, the coordinator is ______________. In the case of the University __________________, the coordinator is __________________. Each Institution may name a successor to its coordinator. c) Each party shall at times indemnify and hold harmless the other against all claims, actions, loss or damage arising from the indemnifying party’s performance or lack of performance under the Agreement. d) This Agreement shall be in force for a period of ____ years from the date of this Agreement. This Agreement may be amended prior to the expiration of the foregoing period only by mutual consent in writing. e) This Agreement will be subject to termination with 12 months advance notice on either side. Such termination shall not affect the validity and continuity of any incompletely discharged obligation agreed upon by the two parties before termination. A review will be initiated by both institutions at least 12 months prior to the expiration of this Agreement to ascertain if the program should be continued and, if so, how it might be improved. f) This Agreement shall be governed by the laws applicable to each of the signing institutions.
