This will include creating and implementing Challenge Centers and participating in the daily activities of the STARS program. The AmeriCorps Member will assist in coordination and support of direct services provided by BGSU student volunteers, including EDFI academic support and other tutoring services. Position Responsibilities: 1. Write program materials in the areas of arts, cultural studies, health & safety, motor skills, math & problem solving, science, or service projects. 2. Work with the program supervisor and other staff to plan programming for a summer-themed program. 3. Implement program activities. 4. Assist in design, shaping and structure of program environment. 5. Constructively guide the work of volunteers. 6. Provide for continuity of care and supervision of elementary-aged children. 7. Safely supervise children with positive behavior management practices. 8. Communicate positively with parents or guardians. 9. Serve nutritious meals and snacks with proper hygiene practices. 10. Assure daily disinfection of surfaces in work area. 11. Administer medications as authorized by parents and physicians. 12. Serve as role model for children and families in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens and intelligent human beings. 13. Help instill in children the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values. 14. Conduct other duties related to Enrichment Team Leader functions as assigned by Program Supervisor, Site Coordinators, Director of Grants & Special Projects, or Superintenden. Additional Working Conditions: Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions. Occasional interaction among unruly students. Training: Annually complete a minimum of eighteen hours relevant to job responsibilities Secure and hold current certification in first aid, adult & child CPR Complete training in management of communicable disease and child abuse recognition & prevention Requirements & Qualifications: At least 18 years of age Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation High school diploma or equivalent Experience working with children and demonstration of sincere desire to aid all children High moral character, dependable employment and attendance record Obtain statement of good health from a licensed physician, not more than 12 months prior to employment or up to 30 days after employment At least 21 years of age – strongly preferred Multiple experiences working with elementary-aged children for at least eighteen months Studies in child-serving field Compliance Requirements: UWA Requirements include (provided by UWA): United States Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident Criminal Background & Motor Vehicles Check High School Diploma or GED Must be at least 18 years of age 1st Aid/CPR Certification (UWA will provide training in these areas during the Service Year, so if you Member does not have this experience when they begin service, they will be receiving it during their service.
