SUNY-Buffalo National Center on Case Teaching in Science. This is the largest
case collection in the sciences and is being continuously updated.
University of Delaware PBL Clearinghouse: The PBL Clearinghouse is a
collection of problems and articles for teachers interested in using problem-based
learning. Teaching notes and supplementary materials accompany each problem.
Access to the University of Delaware PBL Clearinghouse collection is limited to
educators, who must register; registration, however, is free.
Case It! Case-Based Learning in Biology: Case It! is a National Science
Foundation-sponsored project to promote collaborative case-based learning in
biology. The project makes use of open-ended molecular biology computer
simulations to analyze case studies involving genetic and infectious diseases,
including HIV, breast cancer, Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and sickle-cell disease,
among others.
Problem-Based Learning in Biology with 20 Case Examples and Critical
Thinking in Biology: Case Problems - A Guide for Instructors developed by Peter
Ommundsen.
ChemCases: Case-Study General Chemistry Curriculum Supplements: Supported
by the National Science Foundation, ChemCases are designed to be used in the
second semester of freshman general chemistry course for science and
engineering majors to complement conventional text materials. These cases can
be viewed online along with the pedagogy and recommendations for
incorporating them into chemistry courses.
Environmental Science Case Studies from Lancaster University: Case studies in
environmental science, environmental chemistry, pollution science,
environmental management, ecology, and geophysical sciences.
Energy and the Environment Cases: A collection of short case studies used in an
experimental general education course taught at Cal State Fullerton by Professor
Mark Shapiro of the Physics Department.
Beyond Discovery: The Path from Research to Human Benefit: Beyond
Discovery is a project of the National Academy of Sciences. It is a series of case
studies that identify and trace origins of important recent technological and
medical advances. Each case study reveals the crucial role played by basic
science, the applications of which could not have been anticipated at the time the
original research was conducted. The case studies are produced through a close
collaboration between professional science writers and prominent scientists who
have been directly involved with the discoveries being described.

Web-based cases including the The Beast of Bodmin Moor and Piltdown Man.
UCLA Statistics Case Studies: Brief case studies (with questions) from the
Department of Statistics at UCLA.

The CHANCE Database: Developed cooperatively by Middlebury, Grinnell,
Spelman, UC-San Diego, University of Minnesota, and Dartmouth, CHANCE is a
case study course to enhance quantitative reasoning with cases on current chance
events as reported in the daily newspapers such as the New York Times and the
Washington Post and current journals such as Science, Nature, and the New
England Journal of Medicine.

ETHEX - Diving Into the Gene Pool: Series of interactive case studies which
relate to ethical issues surrounding genetic testing and genetic engineering.
Engineering


Engineering Case Studies, Rose Hulman/Carleton University: Collection of
information on case studies in engineering including papers on how to write and
how to teach using engineering cases. The site includes a catalog of over 250
cases maintained by the Center for Case Studies in Engineering at the RoseHulman Institute of Technology which provides abstracts for the cases included
and which can be searched by subject. Ordering information is provided. Online
reviews are available for many of the cases.
Ergonomics Case Studies: Case studies available through ErgoWeb describe real
life occupational hazards and their ergonomic solutions. Each case study consists
of a task description, ergonomic risk factors, administrative or design solutions,
comments, and vendor information.



Engineering Ethics Cases: Collection of brief discussion cases in engineering
eithics with links to the actual NSPE Board of Ethics cases on which they were
based.
Engineering Ethics: Introducing Ethics Case Studies Into Required Undergraduate
Engineering Courses: Eleven detailed cases histories in engineering ethics,
including the collapse of the Kansas City Hyatt Regency walkways, written by
Texas A&M faculty with funding from the National Science Foundation.

philosophy professor Robert Ladenson is a collection of 100 ethics cases. The site
has many interesting features including online surveys.

University of Pittsburgh Dept. of Pathology Online Case Studies: Searchable
database of pathology case studies.
Joint Program in Nuclear Medicine Teaching Cases: These cases, developed
by the Nuclear Medicine Divisions of the Harvard Medical School teaching
hospitals, can be searched by browsed by title or author. Comments on the cases
can be posted to the Web site.
EnviroDx--Clinical Cases in Environmental Medicine: EnviroDx provides access
to well developed and well designed multimedia, computer-based cases on
environmentally related diseases. Currently there are two cases available on this
website.




Kennedy School of Government Case Program: The Case Program at Harvard
University's Kennedy School of Government is the world's largest producer and
repository of case studies designed for teaching about how government works and
how public policy is made. These cases are intended to facilitate discussionbased, interactive learning about both policy issues and management strategies in
the public and not-for-profit sectors. On the website, you can read descriptions of
the Kennedy School's almost 1500 cases, as well as find guides to how to teach
and learn by the case method.
The Electronic Hallway: Collection of teaching cases, exercises, role plays,
workshops, and curriculum planning resources for faculty focusing on public
adminstration and public policy.
Georgetown University's Case Studies in International Affairs: Georgetown's
Institute for the Study of Diplomacy maintains a Case Study Center whose aim is
to promote and distribute case studies among professional, graduate, and
undergraduate schools of international affairs. There are two websites associated
with the Center, one specifically designed for faculty (see

Harvard Business School Cases: The Harvard Business School case collection
includes over 7,500 cases.
Stanford Graduate School of Business Case List: Listing of cases (many of which
have teaching notes) developed by the Stanford business school.


Darden Case Collection: The Darden case collection, maintained by the Darden
Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia,
includes over 1000 cases. Abstracts are available and the collection can be
searched by keyword. Cases can be ordered directly online.
European Case Clearing House: Based on the campus of Cranfield University in
the U.K., the clearinghouse maintains and distributes business cases developed by
the Cranfield School of Management and the London Business School, as well as
the business schools at Harvard, University of Western Ontario, and University of
Virginia. The Web site provides telnet access to the COLIS abstract database,
which can be searched by subject area.
