A marine biologist named Carole Baldwin visited these islands 163 years later on the research vessel Seward Johnson, taking along equipment that Darwin would have envied, including a high-tech bathysphere and a pair of Imax 3-D cameras. Darwin recorded his discoveries in notebooks and later published them in "The Voyage of the Beagle." The music is hot and spicy – Salsa means sauce and that’s what it is in dance – a mixture of all the Latin steps and a dance cocktail of parts of Merengue, Mambo, Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba and all the other Latin dances. There are many different types of music for Salsa but most have 4 beats in each measure – the tempo can also vary tremendously – so the dancers must adjust the speed of their steps to match the music. Salsa has been popular for years in the Latin clubs of New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and Miami, but the release of the movie ‘Salsa’ in 1988 increased its popularity and heightened the public’s awareness of this dance trend. The directors are themselves exiles, and they have created a convincing indictment of El Jefe, implicating also those who would turn a blind eye towards repression from the Left. < “In the Time of Butterflies” (DVD) (2001); > Inspired by the true story of the three Mirabal sisters who, in 1960, were murdered for their part in an underground plot to overthrow the government.< “Like Water for Chocolate” “Like Water for Chocolate” (DVD) (1992); 105 min.; Subtitles: Eng. > This movie is about how life used to be in Mexico. It is a love story between Pedro and Tita, and why they coudn't get married because Tita's mother wanted her oldest daughter to get married first, and have Tita to stay and take care of her.
