AP Psychology
Vocabulary Book Assignment (course review)
Student’s Name: _________________________
Assignment: Create a vocabulary book specific to psychology. The “book” will be
checked the day of the chapter or unit test. As the use and understanding of psychology
terminology is a critical element of your overall comprehension and application of
psychological concepts and theories, this book will serve as an excellent review for the
AP exam.
Criteria:
Create a unique cover page for your 3-ringed binder. This cover page
must include:
1. Title: AP Psychology, period and your name.
2. Pictures, symbols, images etc…. Go to the Internet and goggle
random psych pictures /experiments or go to American Psychological
Association and look for “psych” related pictures - images of the
brain, famous people or experiments etc…
Inside the cover:
1. You will need to purchase 18 dividers with tabs. Using your textbook,
label each tab (print neatly or type) with the corresponding textbook
chapter number and title. This includes the prologue.
Example: The first tab will read:
Prologue: The Story of Psychology
The second tab will read:
Chapter 1: Thinking Critically With
Psychological Science
The third tab will read:
Chapter 3: Neuroscience and Behavior
Etc…
You will receive two daily/homework grades for this.
This rubric is the first page in your vocabulary binder.
Vocabulary Book Grade:
Vocabulary Examples Rubric (continued)
After each chapter covered in class:
1. Place behind each labelled tab the vocabulary list I give you for that
chapter.
2. Type (or very neatly print) both the number and the vocabulary
word, including a colon, from the list I give you.
3. After each vocabulary word, give a real-world example that relates to
psychology (think personal, home, school, work or leisure time etc…)
-The example is not a rewording of the definition
-Do not use the vocabulary term in your example.
(Being able to place the word in a grammatically correct sentence
does not illustrate your understanding of the meaning of the term)!
-Begin with referencing a person in your example…My mother,
Mr. Smith, or Billy…etc....
Good example:
1. Psychology: the scientific study of behavior
and mental processes (verbatim from text).
Example:
1. Psychology: My mother works at MD Anderson
hospital in a research lab (scientific). She has a
PhD in Psychology. She and her colleagues are
trying to figure out if a drug will improve a rat’s
memory (mental or internal processes) so it
can find its way out of a maze (behavior).
Poor example:
1. Psychology: the scientific study of behavior and
mental processes (verbatim from text).
Example: Psychology is all about how one thinks.
Your chapter vocabulary will be accepted for grading only if it is in your binder with
properly labeled tabs and your binder has all previously completed chapter
vocabulary in it. It would be wise to do this assignment on the computer and save it so
that you can make duplicate copies if something should happen to your vocabulary book.
Each chapter’s vocabulary will count as a daily or homework grade and will be due
just before you take the chapter test.
