Dear Beaumont Families,
Another new year provides another opportunity for
adventures in learning. This is why I love what I do as an
educator. There is always the excitement of a new class
project; a new book to read and the best is a new student
to meet. 2011 is going to be a great year for all of us at
Beaumont Middle School.
As I am sure you are aware there are lots of conversations
going around about the boundary changes for Alameda,
Sabin (Access), and Beaumont Schools. I want to
personally thank Charles Kelley, Mohammad Bader and
Anne Lipsitz for representing Beaumont as Site Council
members on the district boundary committee. They have
offered their strong voices on behalf of Beaumont Middle
School. My hope is that an equitable and honorable
decision will be made based on what is best for all
students in these three buildings. We will make sure all
accurate information is on the Beaumont Website.

The staff is continuing to use professional development
time to create strong instruction in the area of writing. The
Science Fair, Writing Contest, Beaumont Anthology and
the Writing Festival are all coming up in the near future. I
am also pleased with the programs offered outside of the
classroom; morning study hall, Girls' Night Out, Backstage
Pass Field trips and the Unity Club. We are a very busy
place.
Happy New Year,
Liz Casson-Taylor

Backstage Pass Field Trip
Congratulations to all of our students who have earned a
Backstage Pass this year! To celebrate, each grade gets to
participate in a fun field trip next week. Sixth graders are
going to Gresham Skate World on Wednesday, seventh
graders are going to Hollywood Bowl on Thursday, and
eighth graders are going to see Clash of the Titans at
Hollywood Theater on Friday. I still need chaperones for
the seventh and eighth grade filed trips so if you can help
out, please contact Ms. Dunn at rdunn@pps.k12.or.us or
by calling 503-916-5610.
Beaumont Students Perform with
International Trombone Superstar!
That's right, Fred Wesley, "the world's funkiest trombone"
will be sharing the stage with our jazzers, as well as
players from four other schools. Fred was the bandleader
for James Brown's famous JB's and wrote music for
American Idol! This magic night of music will happen on
Friday, Jan 21 at Cleveland High School. Tickets are
available from Beaumont band students at the low price of
$8.00 for students and $10.00 for adults. (11 and under
free when accompanied by adult.) Pizza and other
concessions will be available at the show, and profits from
ticket sales will go to directly to the bands of participating
schools. We hope that you will join us at Cleveland HS for
a night that will be remembered for a long time! Don't
miss this one-check him out at: www.funkyfredwesley.com
