Materials read: 1. The Decline and Fall of Japan and Its Sex Drive - Sadayasu This article about doomed Japan is a recap of various articles that appeared in Japanese papers and magazines including in Shukan Gendai and Shukan Shincho both of which are known to carry rather sensational stories. In essence, Japan may simply crumble into dust in not so distant future. The speed in which Japan’s population is declining and aging is unprecedented and something that is not seen in the world at any point in time. The world may be witnessing something that has never happened before. It is quite interesting to note that, according to Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry survey issued last month that fully one-third of adolescent boys aged 16 to 19 claim to have no interest in sex and that this suggests not simply new developments under new circumstances but a newly evolved species. Shukan Shincho's cites a 23-year-old male university student saying, "Many men have no interest in women. My own friends seem quite satisfied to moon over anime voice actresses and computer game characters." There seems to be too many “Soushoku-kei boys” around these days. 1 Perhaps we seniors need to throw ourselves back in the front line, if reluctantly, and help increase the population of this country. 2. Signs of Rigged Sumo Fight – Umemura Sumo traces its origin to rituals of Japan’s indigenous religion of Shinto and, in that context, Sumo wrestlers are considered as upholders of a stoic work ethic and noble public behavior. But a recent revelation of scandals of extensive match fixing carried out in Sumo for some time bred wide spread disillusionment with Sumo among Sumo fans in Japan. We have heard of the rumors of such practices and on in the past but it has never been proved. Now with a number of evidences to support such match fixing in the portable phones, it appears that there is no denying that some wrestlers did in fact engaged in match fixing. The article talks about how the match fixing was carried out and what the future fate of the Sumo wrestling is as a National Sports handsomely subsidized by the Government. 3. 3-D Comes to Met Opera, but Without Those Undignified Glasses –Tomozawa 3-D movie is a big thing now and seems to be attracting many movie fans. Then, 3-D TV is making its way into the market. But, now some crazy people are introducing live 3-D theater performances. And there the audience does not even need to wear 3-D glasses which were all required for 3-D movies and TV shows. The article talks about how it works. D.
