About the program
LEng is National Language Support System for PDA with Microsoft Pocket PC installed.
LEng package includes drivers of national on-screen keyboard, national regional settings. It also
includes as optional feature files that provide translation of operating system interface to national
language. Using LEng you can input information in national language in any application on your
PDA, edit it, save, transfer to other computers and print documents including texts in national
language. Currently we offer LEng for following languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech,
Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Slovak,
Slovenian, Swedish and Turkish.

Attention! Unlike other applications (Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, Microsoft Money and so on)
LEng is not installed in ROM and after a hard (full) reset of your PDA caused by batteries
discharge or any unforeseen situation LEng will be lost. To avoid such situation we recommend
you to save disk with LEng or save LEng back up on Flash-card. The last is especially
recommended in cases when you can't have a permanent access to desktop PC with program
Microsoft ActiveSync installed (in travels, business trips and so on.)
Recommendation: If you are registered LEng user, you can receive the latest version of the
program at any time you wish by yourself. The procedure is described in details in our Support
Knowledge Base: http://support.penreader.com .

PDA Applications (Calendar and Excel) interface is translated to Czech. Full version of LEng.
Two modifications of LEng:
LEng package includes Full and Lite versions of the program.
If you choose to install Full version of localization onto your mobile device, then shortcuts,
menus, dialogs will be translated to a national language. Also external keyboard driver will be
installed onto your mobile device, enabling you to type in your native language, exactly the same
way as you do in desktop Windows. Full version is currently available for following languages:
Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Polish, Russian, Swedish, Slovak.
If you choose to install Lite version, only keyboard driver for national language will be installed
on your device. In this case shortcuts, menus and dialogs will remain in English. Lite version is
currently available for all supported languages.
Limitations of Demo-version:
Every time you turn on your PDA while using the Demo-version of LEng you’ll see the message
about using Demo-version and offer to register the program. Demonstration version of LEng
expires in 14 days.
Recommendation: We also recommend you to buy PenReader extension pack for LEng.
PenReader is an on-line handwriting recognition system for Pocket PC and Pocket PC
2002/Windows Mobile based devices. PenReader enables handwriting text input possibility,
making the work with your device more comfortable and effective. It doesn't require training or
adjustment for a particular handwriting - it's ready to work right after installation!

The PenReader for Pocket PC 2002/Windows Mobile of handwriting recognition system is
developed for Pocket PC 2002/Windows Mobile based devices. It is compatible with HP iPAQ,
Toshiba, NEC MobilePro, Fujisu-Siemens Pocket LOOX, HP Jornada 565/568, Dell Axim X5,
ViewSonic, ASUS MyPal, MiTAC Mio and other devices. This version's improved PenReader
core provides advanced handwriting recognition quality. The system recognizes all national
languages based on standard Latin characters. It "understands" all kinds of national modifiers for
Latin characters: strokes, ticks, umlauts and so on. PenReader core also has two additional
recognition engines for Cyrillic (Russian, Bulgarian etc.) and Greek alphabets.
Current version of PenReader handwriting recognition system supports the following languages:
Albanian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish,
French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish,
Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.
PenReader recognizes 28 languages, including Greek.

Installation
Installation of LEng should be made from desktop PC. Be sure that Microsoft ActiveSync is
installed on your desktop PC. You need ActiveSync to connect your Pocket PC with desktop PC.
Usually it is delivered on a CD disk in PDA package1. You can read about ActiveSync
installation in the documentation to this program.
Attention! Don’t install LEng on a storage card.
If you have old or demo version of LEng already installed on your PDA you should remove it
first. Read «LEng uninstallation».
Attention! As LEng is a system utility it can result in conflict with software of other
developers. So if you have many programs installed and if you face problems with LEng
installation we recommend you to make full reset. After full reset install LEng first and then
install other programs. Don't forget to perform back up operation before LEng installation!
Installation
1.
Connect your PDA with desktop PC by cable. Start ActiveSync program that provides
partnership between PDA and desktop PC. When devices are connected an icon of connection on
desktop PC traybar becomes rich green.

On desktop PC start LEng installation file by double click on it. Installation process will start
automatically on your desktop PC.

Follow the instructions of installation program. If you do not enter the registration code during
the installation the demo-version of program would be installed. You will be able to register the
program later on youк device.
You can choose LEng modification you want to be installed (Full or Lite). You can install Full
modification with full interface translation (Typical). It means that national regional settings,
national keyboard layout, full translation of interface elements (buttons, menus, dialogues,
messages, icons) will be installed. CharMap Utility also will be installed.
You can also install Lite modification without interface translation (Compact). It means that
national regional settings and national keyboard layout only will be installed. All interface
elements will remain in English:
Custom installation allows you to choose the components that you want.

Click appropriate icon.

When LEng installation is finished the dialog will appear on your PDA screen. Click Ok.
Automatic reset will happen. After system reset LEng will be installed. If the reset does not
happen during 20 seconds, you have to do it manually. For this purpose press Reset button at the
back side of your device.
Using LEng
LEng options
LEng allows you to tune some options for more convenient using. To tune LEng options open
Start > Control Panel > System tab > LEng options.
There are some tabs in the LEng options:

LEng. On this tab you can disable (enable) interface translation or the whole localization system.
Also you may register the program if you use the demo-version of it.

External Keyboard. If you use the “Targus” external portable keyboard with your device, you
can choose some convenient layouts for it on this tab. The last version of LEng supports the
following keyboards:

Transliteration. LEng gives the possibility to input national letters by using Letter Recognizer
according to the transliteration rules. On this tab you can choose if you will use the standard
transliteration table (LEng) or you will use the table edited by you (LEng User defined). Don’t
forget to choose one of the transliteration tables before using Character Recognizer.
To switch quickly between input of national and English letters and back tap
keyboard tap


Onscreen Keyboard. For some languages LEng supports some national layouts (for example,
there are Czech secretary and Czech programmer layouts for Czech language). On this tab you
can choose layout you are going to use. In addition, you can tune language indicator for on-

screen keyboard. By default this indicator shows language of the current layout. If you switch on
the “Show next layout name on the switch key” option, the indicator will show language of the
next layout (next layout will appear after you have tapped the indicator).
To add the layout into the list of active layouts you should tap Add and choose the layouts you
want to use in the list of available layouts, then tap OK. To delete the layout from the list of
active layouts mark it in this list and tap Remove.
The option Disable Gestures allows you to disable the standard function “Gestures” (for the
following operations: Space
, Upper Case
, Erase
, Enter
) for the onscreen keyboard of Pocket PC.

Visual Options. On this tab you can tune appearance of the LEng on-screen keyboard: color
of keys and font style for showing the key meaning.

Word Autocompletion. In the LEng software the function of Word Auto Completion is
implemented. It allows the faster typing of frequently used words. The word once entered will be
added to the base of frequently used words. To turn on/off this function check/uncheck the box
Suggest words when entering text. Also you may choose the number the of entered letters
after which the suggestion will be made, and the
number of suggested words. If you check the box Add a space after suggested word the
space will be added automatically after suggested word.

Some changes in the LEng options will take place after the device reset. If you need reset, you
will see an appropriate message.
English and national keyboard layouts. Switching between languages.
If LEng is installed on your PDA you can use national on-screen keyboard for input information
and editing it in national language.
To begin using LEng on-screen keyboard start application, in which you want to use on-screen
keyboard at first. Then click on arrow button in right bottom corner of the screen, open input
method menu and choose LEng keyboard from the list:
The keyboard indicator with « » symbol will appear. It means that LEng keyboard is active.
The keyboard opens by single click on this indicator. It also will appear as default keyboard
when you input information (for example, after starting Pocket Word.). To close it you should
click on keyboard indicator once more.
You can change active language layout from national to English by single click on National/En
(for example, Ru/En) indicator on LEng on-screen keyboard. This is very simple and quick
way:
In addition to LEng keyboard, you can use the standard PDA keyboard. You can open it in the
same way as LEng keyboard. But you should choose Keyboard from input method menu.

Additional utility
The CharMap utility is designed for typing special symbols ( , , , ) in any application on
your mobile device. Moreover, using CharMap you can insert symbols from different national
languages. For example, Russian language support system is installed on your device but you
can type also Greek or French letters ( , , , ) by means of CharMap.
To install CharMap on the device put the tick in an appropriate checkbox during Custom
installation of LEng package. Typical installation of LEng package already includes CharMap
by default.
Remember that CharMap doesn’t work without LEng.

LEng uninstallation
To remove LEng:
1. Open Start menu and choose the Settings item. Then select System tab and click on Remove
programs icon.
2. Choose Paragon Software LEng. Click Remove button.
3. In appeared dialog you should confirm LEng removing by click on Yes button. You will see
warning that you need to perform PDA reset. Click Ok. Automatic system reset will happen and
then LEng will be completely removed. If automatic system reset does not happen during one
minute you should reset your PDA manually by click Reset button on the back side of your
device.
Don’t try to delete some single files of LEng by yourself. It may bring your device
to fatal system errors. You should remove localization system only in accordance with
established procedure as described above. For example, if you have LEng Full modification
installed and you have decided to don’t use it any more but you want to save the possibility of
national letters using then you should remove the entire Full modification and install Lite
modification next.

Char Map have the same uninstallation procedure.

Customers who bought the program via Internet (Softkey, Handango, Digital
River) don’t need to register in E-Care.

We recommend those customers who got LEng together with Pocket PC device to register in our

of LEng, which you can find on the registration card or on the CD disk label.
