KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: 4.1 4.2 4.3 Assessment This involves Analyze data processing requirements to plan data processing system what will provide system capabilities required for projected work loads, and plans layout and installation of new system or modification of old system Analyzes information to determine, recommend, and plan layout for type of computers and peripheral equipment, or modifications to existing equipment and system, that will provide capability for proposed project or work load, efficient operation and effective use of allotted space Confers with computer users to obtain information on limitations and capabilities of existing system and capabilities required for workload. Responsible to monitor functioning of equipment to ensure system operates in conformance with specifications Make recommendations on purchase of computer equipment, accessories and software. Make recommendations on appropriate enhancing of environment for lengthening computer life (eg. dust control, temperature, humidity) Responsible for installation and de-installation of software. Responsible for ensuring that each computer and associated software is properly licensed and upto-date Internet, network services This involves Develop computer network in Nairobi and field offices. Develop and maintain user-friendly archive system for system network and carry out training Regular monitoring of leased line internet connection is adequately operating. Monitors computers to detect problems and corrects problems which arise Ensure appropriate use of internet Trouble shoot software problems Develop and maintain web site for ADRA Somalia Ensure that email services are operating effectively and efficiently Computer servicing and maintenance This involves Plans, coordinates, and implements security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure. Coordinates implementation of vendor-issued security software updates Regular updating of anti-virus software Ensure regular back-ups are undertaken Develop and write computer security policies and procedures Assign computer access passwords and e-mail accounts to employees Reviews employee violations of computer security procedures recorded by computer and reports violation(s) to supervisor or talks with employee to ensure that violation is not repeated. 1 4.4 4.5 4.6 5. Reviews plan to ensure compatibility of planned security measures with established computer security system software Maintain the database of IT equipment and ensure that all equipments released are correctly endorsed to the user. Training This involves Responsible for training and orienting all new staff on information sharing and gathering networks Responsible for organizing and conducting computer software application training Responsible for training users on new or modified equipment Assist and monitor for proper training and start-up of all new projects Publications/Design This involves Collaborating with the PR Officer in designing various publications and/or productions such as brochures, calendars, posters and/or t-shirts Production of maps, technical designs, and any other design/graphics requirements of the office/projects Scanning photos for photo library Photography for project/office publications Misc. This includes Develop and implement requested database systems (e.g. Projects information system, IT hardware/software inventory database) Develop various forms as requested by your supervisor Caretaker for computer hardware and software – including inventory and registry Carry out regular field visits for training of staff and servicing/maintaining of computer equipment Regular review of market trends and technology as well as costing in the IT field; and make recommendations to management. Oversee the interfacing of printers, photocopying, fax machines with computer network. Any other duty or responsible which may be requested by your supervisor. Maintain the telephone system and ensure that monthly telephone logs are distributed to the telephone code users for billing. Regularly asses the needs of IT-related equipments and take responsibility of the procurement process of the equipments needed. Ensure an updated list of price comparison for different IT equipments. Ensure that Nairobi office is always online to ensure field offices can contact the main office any time. SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Computer literate with full working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and email software programs Good interpersonal/coaching skills Good organizational skills Good problem solving skills Education required: Bachelor Degree in computer science or its equivalent Minimum three years experience with various projects including development, administration, preferably with INGO. Good written and spoken English, to liaise with donor agencies, government officials, local authorities and field staff Good verbal persuasive and presentation skills MCSE, CNA, A+ certificates or equivalent knowledge in VB, Java, C++, PHP, HTML/DHTML and SQL Knowledge in systems administration of at least Windows 2003 server and Linux. 2 6. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HOURS: Normal working hours 8.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m., usually requires additional time Work Location – 80% Nairobi-based, 20% field-based 7.
