I try my best to extend my knowledge on both basic and applied aspects with molecular and physiological networks involved in plant growth and development, its ecology and integrated management. My past research experience in green house as well as Lab study and their linking and validation with field trials has made me confident enough to fit well with a smart start in any research organization. SPECIALTIES Basically I am cereal and sugar crops specialist. My specialties include: Plant Physiology o Signalling molecules (strigolactones) o Plants-microbes interaction o Phytochemistry o Allelopathy o Plant hormones o Stress physiology o Plant resistance/tolerance Agronomy o Nutrient use efficiency o Parasitic weeds and Weed management Dr. Muhammad Jamil 1 o Production technology of commodity crops o Green house/Lab./field experiments Analytical chemistry o LC/MS/MS, GCMS, HPLC Biotechnology o Mapping population o Agro bacterium mediated transformation EDUCATION/RESEARCH 2012-todate Assistant Professor, Department of Biosciences, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad 2012 Senior Scientific Officer, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, Islamabad 2007-2012 PhD Plant Physiology, Wageningen University, Netherlands Thesis title: “The relationship between strigolactones and Striga hermonthica infection in cereals” 2001-2007 Scientific Officer, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, Islamabad 2000-2006 PhD Agronomy, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad Pakistan Thesis title: “Weed management in wheat through allelopathic water extracts in combination with low rates of organic compounds” 1997-1999 MSc (Hons.) Agronomy, at University of Agriculture Faisalabad 1993-1997 BSc (Hons.) Agronomy, at University of Agriculture Faisalabad Assistant Professor, Dept. of Biosciences, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Recently I have joined Department of Biosciences to do challenging research work along with Bachelor and Master students in the field of plant sciences. Senior Scientific Officer, Pakistan Agri. Res. Council, Islamabad, Pakistan (2012) I worked as a senior scientific officer in Sugar Crops, Crops Sciences Institute, NARC. My main jobs here were to evaluate performance of sugarcane/sugar beet varieties and to recommend them for general cultivation for farmers community. I have national and international coordination on the subject matter. I conducted a number of travelling seminar and provincial meetings. PhD Researcher, Wageningen University, the Netherlands (2007-2012) As Ph. D. Researcher, under supervision of prof. dr. Harro Bouwmeester, I worked on LC/MS quantification of a group of plant hormones “strigolactones”. Through various applied approaches I tried to overcome a very noxious parasitic weed Striga hermonthica in cereals by managing this plant hormone. Scientific Officer, Pakistan Agri. Res. Council, Islamabad, Pakistan (2001-2007) As a scientific officer, I was involved in Sugar Crops Coordinated Research Program. I conducted agronomic trials in various parts of the country to evaluate newly developed sugarcane cultivars. I conducted travelling seminar and annual planning meeting in the country from time to time. Dr. Muhammad Jamil 2 PhD Researcher, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan (2000-2006) As a Ph. D. Researcher, under supervision of prof. dr. Zahid Ata Cheema, I worked on allelochemicals in combination with small amount of organic chemicals to develop a cheap weed control technology in wheat. Rice Agronomist, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan (1997-1999) As a rice agronomist I worked for two years on rice production technology, different planting methods and integrated nutrient management.
