Professional Skills and Interests
 Six (6) years experience in polymer processing; sheet extrusion, blown film and injection molding.
 Three (3) years teaching experience of General Chemistry at tertiary level.
 Skilled in the use of a wide range of pieces of analytical equipment and characterization techniques
including Spectrometers, Differential Scanning Calorimeters, Quartz Crystal Microbalances, Atomic Force
Microscopes and various custom-built pieces of equipment.
 Interested in innovations of materials synthesis and analysis, materials processing, process technologies and
leading research and development teams.
Industrial Experience
Kabwe Industrial Fabrics Ltd, Zambia (1989-1995)
Worked in the polymer processing industry in the manufacture of polypropylene, polyethylene and poly(ethylene
terephthalate) end products through the sheet extrusion, blown film and injection molding processes. Hired as a
Management Trainee and progressed to the level of Production Superintendent. Oversaw production operations and
was responsible for strategic production planning with a view to meeting set quality and production targets. I
accurately and efficiently planned for scheduled Plant maintenance in liaison with Engineering Section. Recruited,
trained and mentored production operations team.
Key Achievements
 Restructured machine downtime logging protocol for a more accurate monitoring of machine performance.
 Successfully carried out a Project on cost reduction by recycling PP and PE scrap.
Research Experience
 Investigation of enthalpy recovery of polymer glasses subsequent to temperature and carbon dioxide
pressure jumps through the glass transition.
 Investigation of structural evolution of polymer glasses subsequent to plasticizer jumps (carbon dioxide and
relative humidity) through the glass transition.
 Investigation of the non-gravimetric response of AT-cut quartz crystals coated with compliant materials.
 Investigation of the structure and control of mechanical properties in segmented poly(urethane urea) by
manipulating the length of the hard segments.
 Investigation of the lubricating effect of polymer melts in single screw plastics extruders.
