RBI 8th GLOBAL CONFERENCE ON THE CONSERVATION OF ANIMAL GENETIC RESOURCES
TEKİRDAG, TURKIYE (4 - 8 OCTOBER 2011)
Sustainable conservation of livestock breeds diversity for the future: impacts of globalisation of animal
breeding and the loss of farm animal genetic diversity - a conflict?
“The successful conservation of native FAnGR is achieved by cooperation between governmental bodies
and NGOs. FAO is the global governmental body concerned with the creation of policy and the
development of structures which guide the application of policy. RBI is the global NGO counterpart
which Works to facilitate delivery of programmes to support and promote native FAnGR. The 8th RBI
Global Conference, hosted by Namık Kemal University, provides a platform to examine and develop the
opportunities for ongoing and expanding cooperation within the context of new technologies and
progressive science. Reports of both breed survival and the ability of some endangered breeds to
compete in the marketplace provide evidence of the efficacy of these policies and programmes”
