INTO EQUAL PARTS. Vocabulary: halves,
thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, eighths, tenths,
twelfths. Work with a partner to determine
all the different ways to divide a 4x4 region
into equal parts (use grid paper). Prevent
misconceptions – half must be one of two
equal. Mathematical Practice #5 – Use
Math Tools. Mathematical Practice #2 –
Reason. (see posters). Mathematical
Practice #3 – Justify Conclusions.
Review vocabulary: fraction and unit
fraction. Discuss differences
between the two words. Model
fractions. 2/4 of the students are
wearing striped shirts. 1/8 of the
students are wearing glasses. Can
take photos to print and post in the
hall – allow students to create
captions.
