Product Placement Assignment After viewing the movie Josie and the Pussycats and seeing some examples of product placement, it’s time for you to analyze it and evaluate its effectiveness yourself. Assignment: Choose one of the following options and prepare a 3-5 minute presentation analyzing and explaining the use of product placement in your assignment. 1. Analyze product placement in one piece of media - Choose a movie, music video or video game (appropriate for school) and analyze how product placement is used in that piece of media. Make sure you choose a piece of media that has several examples of product placement. a. What products are advertised? b. Are they advertised verbally, visually, or both? c. Is it effective? Consider who’s using the product or talking about it, how it’s presented, would it make the target group want to buy it, is it disgustingly obvious or subtle? d. What effect did it have on you? e. Provide a visual to show the class. (a screen shot, a video clip, or draw/recreate what it looks like to show the class) 2. Analyze a company’s use of product placement in 3 pieces of media - Choose a product (Pepsi, Coke, Apple, a car company…) and find 3 examples of that product being used in a movie, music video or video game (appropriate for school). This will be more research-based, so try a Google search first to get some ideas of where to look. Answer these questions for EACH piece of media. a.
