We all speak the same language, but are we communicating? This workshop
explores differences in the style, content, and meaning of communication
across gender, culture, and ethnic lines. The seminar includes proximics, high
context/low context communication, differences in non-verbal
communication, and the use of verbal tags and hedges. This workshop has
applications in the classroom, office and at home.

our attention. This workshop examines the types of non-verbal
communication, the effect of cultural and gender differences in non-verbal

and relationships in the classroom and beyond.

The Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Program is a safe, nonharmful behavior
management system designed to help human service professionals provide for
the best possible care, welfare, safety and security of disruptive, assaultive,
and out-of-control individuals. Participants should wear flat, closed-toe, nonskid shoes and proper clothing, so that the participant will be able to do
physical exercises. No partial credit will be given. Both days must be
attended in order to receive inservice credit. Since there is a 20 participant
limit, preregistration is required. Since this training is strongly recommended
for CDC teachers, registration will be open to special education teachers only
until May 30. After May 30, registration is open to all teachers.

teachers at the respective schools to attend.

Comprehensive School Health Education (CSHE) includes curriculum,
instruction and assessment that is sequential from Kindergarten through high
school and meets the health education standards outlined in the Tennessee
Curriculum Standards. CSHE addresses physical, mental, emotional, and
social aspects of health, and provides knowledge and skills that promote and
enhance lifelong healthy behaviors. The Michigan Model is a comprehensive,
evidence based curriculum for Kindergarten to twelfth grades and meets the
previously mentioned guidelines.

Read and Write Gold
This is a literacy software program that allows struggling students to access
any curriculum and complete reading and writing assignments as well as take
tests independently. It highlights and reads tests aloud using natural sounding
voices and also includes a comprehensive set of support tools for reading,
writing, studying, research, and test taking. This program will be available at
Macon County High School, Macon County Junior High School, and Red
Boiling Springs School this fall. This will allow special needs children to
have differentiated instruction in the general education classroom. The time
for training will be announced after the completion of the installation.

and sillyness. Brad Tassell is a twenty year veteran of the comedy stage. He

classroom. Come and share your ideas/physical activities that you have

TAKE 10! (www.take10.net) is a classroom-based physical activity and health
promotion program for elementary schools. This curriculum tool is designed
to add at least 10 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity to the
school day while simultaneously reinforcing academic adjectives. To support
PreK-5 grade-specific learning concepts and skills in language arts, math,
social studies, science, nutrition, health, and character education.

Participants will learn to administer and score the DIBELS assessment. They
will also learn to access and interpret DIBELS reports from the Internet,
decide which students need to be progress monitored, input scores on the
computer, and make decisions about how to group students, adapt instruction,
or plan interventions for struggling students.

Helping Teachers Advise Students

3:30 – 5:00
The guidance counselors at the two high schools will work together to
schedule and present this session. They will notify the faculty of the date
for each workshop. Teachers are required to attend both sessions in
order to receive credit. The credit earned for attending both sessions is
½ day total.
This in-service is to provide high school teachers with state and local
requirements regarding graduation. Teachers will learn the requirements for
either graduation path and have an opportunity to ask questions.
School Visitation
A school visitation form must be completed. Teachers taking a personal
leave day to visit another school system may not count this toward inservice.
Inservice credit may be earned when visiting another school system only if
Macon County Schools are not in session. Teachers are to observe a teacher
that is teaching in their same grade or subject area.
